After being tossed out of heaven, former guardian angel, Galmadriel isn’t like any other angel. Not quite human, yet not fully an angel, the best thing the PTBs can think to do with her is bounce her around so she can solve supernatural problems. Ghosts that need to find their way home or that purposefully take the wrong path are her bread and butter. To add insult to injury, she is assigned a fledgling pair of guardian angels to train. Julius and Estelle are ready and willing to learn, but they also have a secondary agenda. One that Galmadriel is never supposed find out about. Helping the ghost of young Ben Allen find his way home reconnects Galmadriel with Kat, Amethyst, Gustavia, and Julie in the first of many adventures to come.

When I was three, my mom brought home a new book and when she went to read it to me, I read it to her instead. That was when she realized I'd learned to read. Since then I couldn't even estimate the number of books I've read. It's a lot!

Due to the worldly success we had last time, I’m teaming up with Cindy from MyBookfile again today (and on other random Thursdays in the near future)! If you’ve read our previous Double Review, you’re going to notice a slight angelical theme we’ve got going. Apart from us being two lovely angels and all (obviously), this is entirely coincidental. Our next book will be about swords and sorcery. I think. And a reaper of souls…*strokes chin* mkay.
What were your expectations before you started reading?
Cindy:Hm.. my expectations… do I ever have expectations for anything? Yes, actually I do, but that’s not the point. I probably expected that this book was going to be a chick lit/comedy kind of novel, but then with angels.
Anne: I honestly don’t know. The cover looked like this was going to be a Disney chick lit crossover, so I kind of expected something I could make fun of, I suppose?
What is this book about?
Anne: It’s about an angel, Galmadriel (seriously?), who falls out of heaven onto planet Earth and finds herself trapped there inside a human body. She still has a tiny bit of angelic power left, though, and manages to save her own life with it in the first chapter. Galmadriel (seriously) is then picked up by people who own a diner/lunchroom (desserts only actually) nearby. Pam, a 40-something woman is the owner of the place and takes Galmadriel (…)in so she can work for her food and accommodation, the accommodation being an old lodge in which Uncle Craig, Pam’s uncle used to live until he got Alzheimer’s. Galmadriel (who, thank fuck, is now called Adriel) slowly gets acquainted with the other people in the small wooded town, their history and…her own human body.
Cindy: Hahaha yes, seriously. I was so glad that they shortened it to Adriel! I was already dreading needing to read that name for the rest of the book. For some reason, though, my brain started to call her Ariel :’)
Did you find the story interesting? Did it take you by surprise or was the plot predictable?
Cindy: Okay, so no it wasn’t all that surprising or unpredictable, but not in a bad way. I wanted to finish this book and it was actually amusing to read. Some moments were more interesting than other’s (obviously) but overall it was fun enough. There were some things that I actually did not see coming, but that might be because we were so smart not to read the books before this spinoff :’)
Anne: It took me by surprise when it took a different turn than the standard romantic crap I expected. It does say it’s a Psychic seasons novel, though, so I should’ve been prepared for the psychic part… As for things being predictable, yes, a lot of it was. I wrote too many notes saying “Oh BOY, I wonder what’ll happen next?! or something of the like. Strangely enough, it didn’t bother me all too much either, though.
Who are the main characters and what did you think of them? Are they changing or maturing by the end of the book?
Anne: The protagonist is Galmadriel. My biggest issue with her is that she’s pretty darn stupid for a millennium old angel.
“She had watched civilizations rise and fall for reasons she found completely frivolous. She had watched over kings and paupers. Now, her biggest concern was remembering how many donuts were in a baker’s dozen.”
I mean, I get that she feels weird being in a human body all of a sudden (I don’t think angels take a dump like we do), but she doesn’t even know how to make coffee. You’d think she was around when coffee was discovered…
Thankfully, she gets her shit together by the end of the book. Maybe a little too much even, but hey, she’s supposed to be a powerful angel.
Another important character is Pam. When I read about Pam, this was the first image I got of her:
Now rest assured (or be disappointed), Pam is younger, less violent, and altogether more sane and sophisticated than this lady. But, it’s the spirit that counts innit, and Pam sure isn’t someone you mess with. She is a woman in charge of her own business on all kinds of levels! Yep, definitely liked her the best. I also had a soft spot for little Ben with his bike from the ’70’s. Cute kid.
Cindy: Anne already mentioned what is to mention about the main character, so I’ll cheat and start on the minor characters instead because I thought some of them were pretty damn amusing:
Rodeo Bill, an awesome oldish guy who ran away from home and joined the rodeo. Callum, Ladies man who is supposed to hit on every girl in town, but he has a hidden fondness for a certain someone. Ben, Pam’s brother, such a cute kid! He had humor… good kid. And even though these characters are some of the minor characters, they change as well. Small changes, yet changes they are.
Earthbound Bones is a spin-off of the Psychic Seasons series. Do you recommend reading the series or can this one easily be read as a stand-alone novel?
Cindy: I already mentioned that this was a spinoff and so yes, I’d say that it would come in handy to have read that series first. It wasn’t all too bad not having read the Psychic Seasons, but there was not enough introduction to simply understand what happened before all this. There wasn’t even enough information about the group from Psychic Seasons series to form an image of them.
Anne: Yeah, the whole situation with Kat and Zack (who, you say? yes, that’s exactly what I thought) and what exactly happened to Galmadriel which made her fall is explained a bit messily in this book. You can still easily read it as a stand-alone, but I would’ve liked more of a proper introduction for some characters.
Was the ending satisfying to you? [If so, why? If not, why not…and how would you change it?]
Anne: Meh. The mystery is solved in the end, so that’s one thing, but the outcome was rather disappointing. I would’ve picked a different one with more meaning to the reader; that’s for sure. And maybe one with a more of a GASP!-moment.
Cindy: The ending was okay! Don’t go all meh. I nearly cried at the end… then again, I tend to cry a lot, so I guess that that doesn’t really count for anything haha. In the end, it is all okay; mystery solved and on to the rest, I’d say.
Anne: Wimp :’). Yes, it’s an okay ending, but the perp, Cindy! THE PERP!! I just wished it would’ve been someone else *shrugs*.
Would you recommend this book? If so, to whom?
Cindy: Yes, I’d recommend the book. I think it was light and fun at times. People who like a paranormal/mystery sort of thing should like this book.
Anne: Yes. What Cindy said.
It’s the final verdict!
Anne: I’m going to give this one three brownies. I did like it and enjoyed the psychic mystery part. It felt like watching an episode of The Ghost Whisperer; enjoyable emotainment which gives you a snug (and snotty for some people ;) ) feeling but it's nothing outstanding or anything.
Cindy: Final verdict time already huh... okay well... yeah, I think I’ll give it three stars. It was okay and fun at times, but because of the lack of information concerning some of the minor character and the pace/interestingness, I’ll give the book three stars.
Overall Rating:
A joint 3 stars it is!

Thank you NetGalley and Willow Hill Books for providing me with an ARC of Earthbound Bones in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
The Gist
I already had this entire review mapped out when I decided to double check a fact before giving my two-cents’ worth.
It turns out that this new series by the author is a spin-off her previous series called Psychic Seasons.
To most readers, who are familiar with Welling’s work this isn’t really news, but I think it’s important to point out to anyone interested in this new series Earthbound, familiarity with the previous series is necessary.
As I said, I was aware that this was a spin-off, but because I had no opportunity to enjoy the author’s other series, I was quite lost while reading this.
So, be forewarned, dear reader.
The Details
It’s difficult to comment much on the characters, since they have been previously established and developed.
Based on my initial, uninformed impression, I thought the main character came across as haughty.
Obviously, there is a lot of history between the characters that appear to know each other from earlier story lines, so it’s almost impossible for me to give any sort of accurate observation on them.
I thought the writing was very good. There were a few spots throughout that needed another read through and some editing. Some sentences didn’t make much sense. There were a few spelling mistakes and some of the transitions seemed abrupt.
What irked me a lot, besides the fact that I was clearly missing a lot of backstory, which made the full enjoyment of this story nonexistent, was the discrepancy in time.
The story begins with the heading “30 years ago”. After this part of the prologue, it jumps to “3 months later”, which is fine. Nothing wrong with jumping ahead a bit.
But I think in chapter 3 one of the characters takes out his cell phone to take pictures of a crime scene.
How is that possible? 30 years ago plus three months is still way before the advent of the cell phone camera. Or did I miss another jump in time?
That part bothered and added to the mounting frustration of not knowing the finer details of the greater story that had already been shared.
The Verdict
Overall, I wish I had realized that this story required knowledge of the previous series. Some spin-off series require little knowledge of the original series in order for the reader/viewer to keep up with the story. Others require more.
I think once I have some free time, I will try to find a copy of the book in the Psychic Seasons, Rings On Her Fingers to see where and how it all started.
This is my first book by ReGina Welling and it is a spin-off of her other series. Although I didn’t read any of her previous books, this book sucked me right in. I loved the main character Galmadriel and I really enjoyed the fact that this book combined paranormal, romance, and cozy mystery. This is a fun and light read. A great start of a series. I’m looking forward to her next installments.
Awesome. Loved this one. A guardian angel has been forced into an earthbound body. But is she really a fallen angel or something else. The cost of having saved the others might have been great but they were worth it. Now she finds herself on a road with a truck heading straight for her. Why is she here? A human body is a lot to take in but eating is a pleasure. A job, a cabin (well a shack that is full of boxes), a dead body, ghosts, trainees, a skeleton and the friendship of the four couples she meet whilst fighting the Earthwalker. Can she find out who killed the young boy? Who is spreading the darkness? Is it the Earthwalker? A book that has vibes of Highway to Heaven mixed with Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased).
Book 5 of 6 is an excellent sequel adding new characters you want to like.
It just seemed to end abruptly. Perhaps that's because I read Books 1 through 4 in a single volume sold as books 1 - 3. One right after the other until I'm now reading the fourth and recheck the cover,.yes it's books one, two and three. Hmmm, is book five just as long ? If it is, well, one four out of five straight fives means I'm human. I still thought it ended too early with too many story lines to finish. Guess that's why Welling made book six then, isn't it?
3 stars. Following up on the first four Psychic Seasons book, this one deals with the fall of the angel Galmaderial. Definitely better written than the first 4 books, this storyline is more complex than the weird treasure hunts of the previous books - this a murder mystery! While the mystery isn't really the main point of the story, it keeps the book interesting. Julie, Gustavia, Amethyst and Kat make an appearance, and while you dont really need to have reac the ither books first, I would recommend it. The relationships these women have with each other are beautiful, and THAT is the point of these books. The plots are cheesey, but the characters are interesting, if only superficially so.
Additonal comment - the nook e-books have been pretty terrible with typos. I hope that's just the e-book and not how these books were actually edited.... because GRAMMAR people!
This was a pretty good book, although (and I think this is my fault), I got a little confused in places with some of the characters. Powered through and finished with some unanswered questions.
Fun series, but the errors in the kindle edition are hideous.
Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...
1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.
2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.
3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.
4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.
5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.
. I found out after I read Earthbound Bones that is a spin-off of another series by ReGina Welling. I was surprised because I had no problem reading this series at all, but so want to read the other one as well. Can you imagine being an angel with almost unlimited power one moment then coming to with a Food truck barreling down on you and little to no powers to help you save yourself. That is what happened to Galmadriel not to mention the three months she has no memory of. Pam, the owner of the Food Truck gives her a job, a place to stay and food. When someone near her is murdered she investigate. When two new angels show up for her to mentor she has to wonder how to do that without her full powers; add in a few ghost wanting her help as well and Galmadriel is feeling a bit overwhelmed. All she knows for sure is that she needs to find a killer before her kills her human self.
you have to feel for our heroine after losing her angelic powers and having to function in the world as a human has got to be a bummer, but think of all that she gets to experience for the first time, food, friendship, pain. Through it all our heroine shows her fears and strengths. All the characters are fully developed. Some will make you smile and some will make your blood boil. You will love the well plotted story and a glimpse into the mind of a not so angelic angel. The perfect beginning to a delightful new series. My rating is 5 out of 5 stars.
After a magical incident saves her friends, but loses her her power, Galmadriel, an angel from heaven, awakes to find herself coming to right as a food truck is about to run her down. When she tries to stop the truck. She manages to save herself, almost passing out. She is helped by the owner of the truck, Pam, who gives her shelter, food, and a job. While trying to find out what happened in the three months she can't remember, the time between the magical incident and waking up in front of the truck with no powers, someone living by her is murdered. In between two angels showing up for her to mentor, ghosts wanting help, and trying to find out why she lost most of her power, she has a murder to solve. Will she solve it in time, or will the murder get to her first?
I found this book to be very lighthearted and fun. This book is the first in a spin-off from a previous series, which I have not read. But, don't worry, I didn't feel like I missed anything by not having read the previous series. Characters from the previous series did show up, and I liked them so much, I'm very interested in reading the previous one. Getting back to this book, it is well-written, the plot was very interesting, and fast-paced. I do wish I knew more about the powers Adriel originally possessed, because when she was able to access them, it just seemed out of the blue, and something to move the plot forward. But, it wasn't a serious problem and I could move past it. As an aside, there wasn't much romance in this book, and I really wasn't looking for some, but I wanted to mention it in case another reader is. All of the questions I had in this book weren't answered, but the plot did mostly conclude with the end of this book. I am looking forward to reading more in this series, especially to what happened in those three months! 4 1/2 stars!
Thanks to NetGalley and Willow Hill Books/CrushStar Multimedia LLC for the free ebook in exchange for an honest review. This exact review will also be posted on both Amazon and Goodreads.
In Earthbound Bones, the angel Galmadriel finds herself earthbound after a daring act caused her to fall from Heaven. With no communication from her superiors, Galmadriel is forced to find her way in an unfamiliar world as she tries to solve the mystery of a little boy hit and killed by a car and the murder of the woman living next door. Galmadriel must connect the dots and find a killer in the hopes that she will redeem herself and be allowed back into Heaven.
This book can be read as a stand-alone, but I recommend reading the 4 books in the Psychic Seasons series as it is frequently referenced in the book. I read (and loved) the Psychic Seasons series last year, so when this sequel came up on Netgalley, I snapped it up. I loved the premise of the guardian angel Galmadriel having to adapt to being a human. Or, at least, an angel in a human body.
The whole fish-out-of-water theme has always appealed to me, and I enjoyed watching Galmadriel adjust to human life, particularly her struggles with the coffee maker and experiencing a BLT for the first time (That BLT sounded really good, too!). I also enjoyed her reunion with the Psychic Seasons ladies. It was rather like visiting old friends when they showed up in the story, with Amethyst plucking auras, Kat winning bets and Gustavia's funky skirts.
The plot was well-paced and unfolded neatly. I loved the scenes with Craig's mind, it was fascinating, both haunting and enthralling. And as the main plot of solving the murders progressed, the secondary plot of Julius going missing and the block on Galmadriel's powers snuck in there and added another layer to the already rich plot. I love how the author expertly weaves several books together with one theme, and this one, ending neatly with a cliffhanger, always leaves me wanting more.
Overall, a fantastic read and a great sequel to the Psychic Seasons series.
5 Stars for the book Earthbound Bones: A Psychic Seasons Novel by ReGina Welling. I’d also like to thank NetGallery for allowing me to read this book in exchange for my honest review.
Not only is this the first book in what appears to be a new cozy series, but it’s also the first book that I have read from this author. This book was just too cute. I like to read all sorts of genres and every now and again I like to read the cozy mysteries. They are a light read, with hardly any thinking involved, no blood, guts, or violence in them, and this book is no exception.
Galmadriel isn’t like any other angel. Not quite human, yet not fully an angel. After an incident that saves her friends, Galmadriel wakes up on earth right as a food truck is about to hit her. She tries to stop the foodtruck with her powers, but discovers she doesn’t have them anymore. She realizes that this is her “fall from grace”. With no way to communicate with her superiors, Galmadriel is basically on her own, and is now having to learn how to live on earth. Pam, the food truck owner befriends her and gives her a job and shelter. It was fun to watch Galmadriel deal with simple things like a coffee maker, cooking food, and all the earthly things that she hadn’t encounter before. But the two things that Galmadriel does is tries to solve the mystery of who killed her neighbor and the mystery of a little boy that was killed in a hit and run.
I enjoyed the characters so much I wished they were my neighbors. The author did a good job on developing the characters, the plot, and delivering the story. Over all a well written, fun, entertaining, full of surprises, fast paced book. This is one book that you would want to read in one sitting, as it is just a fun and exciting book, that you will find yourself chuckling over.
A big thank you to NetGalley and Willow Hills Books for the free ARC for an honest review
First time reading this author...I think this is an interesting premise and the characters were fun and interesting. But I was confused alot at the beginning as there was no background information given...Even Adriel is confused and frustrated by the lack on knowledge. Overall I would say this is a 3.5 but the interesting story line makes for a fun read. I would definitely read the next book in this series. Let me know what you think.
A good lighthearted read about an earth bound angel who is really not sure what her purpose is at the beginning of the book. She soon finds that there are strange things going on around her and that it may take her and her friends to get to the bottom of things and straighten things out. It is a fun book with a good story. This is a spin off from another series, but I had no trouble reading this book without reading the other series. I enjoyed the book and look forward to reading more from ReGina Welling. Thanks to NetGalley for the free book.
This author was new to me, the concept of the book sounded interesting so that was why I wanted to read it. To start with it was a bit confusing but the characters are so quirky and full of life made up for that.
Earthbound Bones is really different murder/mystery. I really enjoyed it and will be looking out for more in this series. For me it was a five star read.
Thanks to Netgalley for the chance to read & review this book.
I was given an advanced readers copy for an honest review. I really enjoyed this book. It is a mystery that I was not able to figure out in the first part of the book. It is also a clean story. I love her other books with the other characters in this story. ReGina Welling is an excellent author, the way she is able to describe things is wonderful and she can paint a picture with her description of people or places that is truly a talent.
I found the first couple of chapters quite boring but once the story had become established it got going and became quite interesting. The story of an angel who because of some incident, which is never really clear in this novel, has lost her wings and is now earthbound. It includes a mystery of two murders, one a little boy 30 years earlier which was the most interesting part. I was given this book by Netgalley and this is my voluntary review.
This was amazing, although it took me a little bit to get into it as the beginning was a bit confusing. Hard to reference things when the MC has no point of reference to begin with... but, she quickly adapted, and as she did, the story began to unfold more clearly. Excellent job with a difficult set of circumstances, Ms Welling! Not a quick read, but one that must be savored.
This is a great book with a wonderful story and well developed characters. This book will keep you reading long into the night. This was such a great read and full of surprises. I am looking forward to reading the next book by this great author. A Review copy was provided to me in exchange for a fair and honest review. The free book held no determination on my personal review.
I was given this book by NetGallery in return for an honest review.
I enjoyed the story and the characters, but I immediately felt like was missing some information from a previous story and I had to check it actually was the first in the series. I enjoyed the plot and way the story developed. It was a pleasant read, kept my attention, and was well written
I really like this book, but I hate when authors are inconsistent. Adriel's eyes, are they blue or green? Plus autocorrect is not an author's friend. Some of the sentences make no sense, even after a few readings. So while I enjoyed the story, I was more irritated then enchanted. So, my recommendation, take two aspirin and read this book.
I got my copy in Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. It's a nice book. The plot is a bit weird since the beginning is a bit confusing but it's easier as you read on. It has some humour, some mystery solving, but don't expect romance.
Daniel has to learn to cope with her reduced lowercase an angel and has to complete her next mission. Estelle helps and brings in Julie and her friends to help.
If you like a mystery with mystic and comedy then this book is for you. I loved ReGina Welling's Season series and this book is a homerun for the start of Earthbound series.
