Unhappy with the decision of the court system? Dirty Deeds will balance the scales of justice, for the right price.

A single misstep plunges her into a supernatural miasma with eternal implications.
Christy King is a Fantasy author who writes about supernatural elements and how they impact lives. The characters have power, but pay a heavy price.
Christy King has been a marine biologist/biochemist, a bookseller, an administrative assistant, and a veterinary technician. But the most important role to her happiness and well-being has been as a writer and author.
She lives in a pine forest with her husband of more than 22 years, three cats and two dogs.
There were a lot of things I liked this book for. Straight away the first few chapters really got me going. I could immediately recognize the funk and the sass and the spark in this writing style. And I dig it! Proper amount of funk and sass, you could say, is a bookish turn on for me. From early on I could see I was dealing with a great female character. I liked her straight away even though she did manage to bamboozle me through the rest of the book, but I’ll tell you about that soon. Let’s get the good bits mentioned first.
The other characters were just interesting. We have Dev who has a flower shop. He has known Cam for years and he loves her, you know?! Cam, because of her not so legal profession of dealing justice keeps Dev at an arms length out of fear and worry he won’t be able to deal with the reality. We also have Onyx who, I promise, will excite you and disgust you and surprise you. Then, there’s Harry who we meet briefly but my, what a brief meeting that is. Walter, towards the end part of the book is just someone you’ll want to go on a roadtrip with. And then there’s Cole. And yes, I know, there’s a lot of male characters! There are a couple of other characters including awful men as well, but I don’t want to write about them all, cause they’ll ruin the surprise for you.
What I really liked about the story was the fact I just could not see the plot twists coming. Like none of them. Add to the fact that Cam acts as a properly confused teenager who doesn’t know her own feelings. One minute she’s hot, the next she’s cold. I was like- “What is it that you WANT, WOMAN?” Properly annoyed me, but her physical and mental abilities, her cunning and wit redeemed the confused part of her.
I should probably mention the supernatural aspect of the story as well. Well, there wasn’t that much of it there until towards the end. And it felt right because throughout subtle and fitting clues were dropped.
As a last comment I would like to add that while there were a couple of sex scenes and dealings with human/sex trade they weren’t all that graphic which suited me just fine.
I really did enjoy reading this book. I might have even ditched work for an hour or so at some stage *hangs head in shame*
My overall Rating: 5***** – I have to admit: it was entertaining, edge of the seat stuff with decent plot twists and not an overbearing amount of supernatural. In addition I can’t recall any typos which is always a bonus. I see no reason to rate Dirty Deeds lower than 5 stars.
Dirty Deeds by Christy King is a great many things -- badass vigilante chick, undercover saga, heartbreaking love story, and supernatural drama that spans over the centuries, behind the proverbial curtain to the point where the reader doesn't realize the true ramifications of Cameron James' life until it's too late.
Even with all of that going for it, Dirty Deeds never feels rushed or crammed too full. A book this ambitious in vision could've easily been bogged down by that vision. Yet King never allows the macro to get in the way of the micro, and even when the macro reveal feels like a "Where did that come from?!" punch to the gut, hindsight, and well-placed clues, will paint a much clearer picture.
There aren't many books that surprise me anymore. Dirty Deeds did just that.
One of the reasons this book jumps back and forth so well through so many styles and genres and twists is that King never loses sight of the characters. Cam is many different things to many different people -- even to herself -- and we never lose that sense of who she is throughout everything. Even the supporting characters, like Dev, have enough life to them that your concern for their predicament outweighs your own bewilderment.
In a way, I wish there was another book featuring Cam in the offing, because King has created a wonderful, vibrant character -- to say nothing of a potentially rich supernatural mythology that's practically begging to dug into more. But long and short of it, I'm a sucker for tough female characters, and this book fits that bill perfectly.
All in all, Dirty Deeds is a fantastic read, one of the best I've had so far in 2016.
I wish I could find the appropriate words to explain how impressed I am by Ms King's voice. The word 'commanding' comes to mind. Whether the author is aware of it or not (and most author's are not aware of their own genius; most are plagued with insecurity), Ms King's words, her story line, her talent, the details, the emotion, and so on, all command your attention, capture your heart, and bring you to your feet with the urge to offer loud applause. Brilliant!
Dirty Deeds has so many twist and turns it's exhilarating. Any writer who can 'manipulate' my heart, carrying me through emotion thick and thin, dark and light, deserves my praise -- and Christy King did just that.
An excellent story. Fabulous characters. An outstanding writer's voice. And a fantastic ending you will NEVER see coming! Who could ask for more.
I stand in awe of you, Christy King -- and applaud with loud hands while doing so.
Excerpt: ‘It was strange how I could feel it all happen inside of me. Energy leaked out of my body in draining puffs. Cold replaced it, snaking in through my pores. People say they go numb, but it wasn’t numb I was feeling. I just couldn’t move, not of my own volition. My body moved, but not to my own commands. I felt lost and trapped inside. Fogginess filled the empty spaces. I could hear my own breathing just fine. My own heartbeat. Everyone else sounded faraway and insignificant.’ The battle of good vs. evil resonated throughout this romantic/fantasy/paranormal narrative. It was an attention-grabbing storyline, overflowing with tense, emotional dialogue and action that ricocheted like bullets. This fast-paced thriller kept me riveted until its disconcerting ending, but then concluded with a satisfying finish. This talented wordsmith, author Christy King, has penned an unpredictable and laudable fantasy
Dirty Deeds is a smart, entertaining book that throws you a curve ball with each new chapter. Just when you think you know what is going on...boom, the direction changes and that is a GOOD thing.
Dirty Deeds can be categorized as romantic suspense with a side of paranormal.
Christy King writes smart and interesting characters...even the bad guys are kind of lovable. No one is who they seem. Dirty Deeds has a little bit of everything -- mystery, danger, romance, all kinds of bad guys and one kick butt heroine. There is so much going on in this book, but not in an overwhelming way. King has woven all these perfect piecess together to create one creative puzzle with each chapter a new piece of the puzzle. When you finally get that last puzzle piece in place, it becomes this perfect AHA moment.
In Dirty Deeds, by Christy King, Cameron James is a private investigator in Chicago who only takes on special clients. When a guilty person slips through the cracks of the justice system, Cameron is hired to make sure that justice is served; an avenging angel. She’s been trained by the best, a man named Onyx, who holds a special power over Cameron and acts more as adversary than friend. Cam’s newest case brings her to Cole, a man who seems to be more than he appears, and as Cam digs into whom Cole is Cam’s on-again/off-again (currently off) boyfriend, Dev tries to renew their relationship. Things begin to quickly spiral out of control for Cameron as she learns that Cole and Dev are not who they say they are, and Cam’s business doling out her vigilante justice must take a backseat as her life spirals out of her control.
Christy has created a strong, powerful character in Cameron James. Cameron is confident and determined, unafraid to perform necessary castrations or deal out death to those who deserve it. She doesn’t let her size (Cameron is petite), or her appearance (think wholesome girl-next-door), prevent her from doing her job. In fact, she uses her traits to her advantage. She is a complex character, able to deal out swift justice, but has a burning desire to do right. (She never takes a case if she can’t prove that the target is truly guilty of the crime.) The story is fast-paced and filled with many revelations that will keep the reader on their toes. We can guess part of the outcome for Cam as the story progresses, with little hints deftly added to the story. But the actual revelation at the end is a surprise. In fact, I didn’t particularly like how the story was resolved – I had been expecting something different – but that doesn’t mean that it wasn’t a well-developed and interesting turn to the story. (I would have gone down a different path had I been writing, probably making it more obvious and less dramatic than what Christy has done. I applaud Christy for concluding Cam’s story the way she did.)
Some of the supporting characters are not as well developed as Cameron, but I think that has to do more with how the story is written (first person as opposed to third person) so we are not privy to the internal thoughts of the supporting cast. It’s a fine line to walk as a writer, and in this case, while I would have liked to have known more about what motivated Cole, Dev, and Onyx, their portrayal is perfect for the story that Christy has crafted. Christy adds in supernatural elements into the story in quick flashes and glimpses, allowing us to experience the new revelations along with Cameron. This makes the final reveal all the better as all of the puzzle pieces fit into place. Astute readers will guess as to who Cam is well before Cam ever does, but when all of the pieces are in place the truth will be a surprise.
I highly recommend Dirty Deeds to any reader who loves a good action-adventure thriller. There are undercurrents of romance and the supernatural as well that spice up the story and take a simple action-thriller to a new level of enjoyment.
