Hidden Moon is the forth book in an exciting multi-author series called the Hot Moon Rising series. Nevertheless, it can be read as a standalone. Alan Shifflett is a wolf that left his pack due to a mutation that makes him a little too violent. Family and pack are important, therefore, he must protect them from himself. Who doesn’t love a lone wolf with a good heart? Alan was one of my favorite characters because of his devotion to others, even when it might break his heart to make difficult choices in other to protect them. It really broke my heart that he lived in fear of letting his beast run loose because of its violent attitude. He had to live a quiet life away from his kin and, in my opinion, it was breaking his soul from the inside, even when he didn’t notice it. So, I must confess, I was very happy when he returned to Moonlight Pack, even if it was just because the poor health of his father, because it gave him the chance to reconnect with his kin and make him realize what he left behind and what he could have if he choose to stay. I was really impressed by the self-growth that Alan went through. He was hesitant to accept himself as he was at first, but it is quite difficult to do such things on out own. Sometimes we just need someone by our side that remind us we are good, special, cherished and unique in our own way and there is nothing to be ashamed of because it is what others, our important ones, love us for. Shelly Fields was my second favorite character in the novel. She was once a spoiled high school girl that made fun of Alan due to peer pressure, but the truth was that she cared for her mate. As time passed she turned into an orange farmer and devoted herself to the pack. I think she is a character people can relate too because we all do stupid things in our youth but that doesn’t define who we are, we are the ones that choose what path to take. I was glad she was true to her feeling this time and shared them with her mate. Also, I was so mad at Alan for being so pessimistic and insisting that the best and safest for everyone was for him to go back to her quiet life. It was very obvious that he didn’t want to leave Shelly, his father and the pack behind, but the fear of hurting them was greater than anything. I hate to say this but the threats of other pack and the appearance of his rival, Curtis, were very necessary to make the stubborn wolf with alfa traits to think twice before jeopardizing the safety of those he holds dear because he wasn’t able to accept himself, even when others already did. I highly recommend this novel to anyone that love paranormal romance with hints of comedy, drama, action, and a very stubborn wolf being pushed to the limits because of his soon-to-be mate. What a wonderful and moving read. I was hooked on page one and had a very hard time putting the book down. A genetic mutation makes it hard for Alan to control his temper. When in high school he was teased merciful and he would lose it and shift to his wolf in anger. He's scared he'll hurt someone so he tries not to shift anymore and leavers his pack. He comes home when Shelley his crush from high school sends him a letter that his father is sick. Can he find a way to control his anger and shifting?. Can Shelley help? Amidst a rival pack threatening and attacking as well as her ex-boyfriend Curtis trying to even a score with him, will he find a home?
I was given this e-book by the publisher for the purpose of an honest review. My conclusions are my own. I was not compensated in any way.
This is the first one I am reading in this series but it is still easily followed. Sneaky how Alan will be persuaded to come back after time gone. He also thinks very little of himself I would say. The one who wants him there though has her work cut out for her with good reason. Shelley was not very nice in the past thanks to reasons explained. She also though has a big factor for needing him. Alan is quite different then any I have read before. Interesting characteristics but none that love could not see. Once he is back though she does get her chance but there are other things also going on with them both being part of it. This author will also have drama to keep you caught up with not just what is going on with them but what is coming. I also like how it will be shown to Alan he does have a place.
Being different is not a bad thing but you and those around you need to accept being different. This didn't happen for shifter Allan, who has a genetic mutation that he and his pack has never accepted. He chose to distance himself from the pack and himself. Coming back when his father is ill is a test of everything that he is.
Shelley has always known that Allan is her mate but let the feelings of the pack get in the way and lead her astray. Now that he is back she is determined to show him what he means to her.
With the romantic tensions, as well as the tension from another pack encroaching on their territory, high, this was a good shifter read. There were parts that I wanted to read more about, which might have made this a great read. I did like the characters and the small town feeling that came through strongly.
This is my first book from this author and I have to say that I enjoyed very much. Afton Locke will be on my reading list from now on. Hidden Moon is book 4 and part of the Hot Moon Rising Series, a very well written paranormal story of courage, second chance in life, trust, mates and romance. This issue bring us Shelley Fields an ex high school beauty queen shifter, Alan Shifflett a wolf shifter with an inherited mutation that makes him a violent and of course a bad guy ( rival ) shifter named Curtis. The plot take place in a little town in Florida and mostly on the Moonlight Diner and is full of drama, family banter, old enemies, new enemies, true mates, love, envy. It was short but very good, you will like it if you are a fan of paranormal romances.
Alan left his pack when he was young because he was tormented and bullied by the others in the pack. What hurt most was that when he left he also left his mate Shelley behind. Years later he returned home because his father was in ill health and couldn't run his restaurant anymore. Alan planned on a quick visit to see his dad then leave again but his feelings for Shelley and threats to his old pack drew him in for a longer stay. This book has suspense, romance, a little humor and a page turning story that will keep you reading until the end. I was given this book as an arc reader for an honest review.
This is the fourth book in the Hot Moon Rising Series, and I could not put this one down! Alan Shifflett left Florida’s Moonlight pack years ago because of the way his wolf form would act, he does not want to put those he love in danger. Shelley Fields one of the reasons he left has now gotten ahold of Alan to let him know his dad has heart trouble and needs Alan to come home. What happens when Alan gets there? Does the other pack that has been attacking his pack cause more problems? Does Shelley let Alan know she is sorry for the way she acted years ago? Can they get a happy ending? *I received this in exchange for an honest review* Wow, this story blew me away. In romances, you get writers that focus on characters being clean and hot and that's it. The fact that this book has our sexy hero as a scraggly wolf, a beast, I fell in love. Talk about Beauty and the Beast in shifter style, this book had me from page one. "You're like... a hidden moon. Everyone else sees the clouds, but I see the light behind them." I feel the suspense wrapped up too quick but it was nice to see how they worked out their relationships. This is a great story and does a wonderful justice to the series that Desiree Holt started here! i can't wait to read more.
Afton Locke's "Hidden Moon" is the fourth tale in the Hot Moon Rising series, but you can read it as a standalone, I did. The sexy bits are hot! I like how the orange theme runs through the entire book. The mythology of the mates and the pack is an interesting one. There's a larger plot at work and I think I would enjoy going back and reading the first three tales in the series. I will definitely check out more by this author!
I really enjoyed it! The storyline was fast-paced and exciting. Not going to lie a few times I wanted to smack Alan for being so stubborn about not being with his mate but in the end he saw the light and claimed her :)
This is a sweet story of an outcast wolf that didn't fit anywhere and only wanted to find his place, and about a girl that loved him but was too shallow to allow it. This book has some action, some twist and some hot scenes. I was gifted this book for an honest review and it's a must read
This is the first in this series I have seen; it feels well thought out, although the characters seem somewhat, inconsistent? But this might be pack mentality causing this. I am also somewhat annoyed with both Alan and Shelly (more Alan) for how they act.
