Twenty-something, single mom Bianca yearns for more. The cosmetology license she worked so hard to get is collecting dust while she waitresses for her mother’s catering business, but she has no clue how to turn her dreams of being a makeup artist into reality. Adding to her unhappiness is her dead-end relationship with her immature, video game-obsessed baby daddy, Max. Although he runs a successful business and Bianca still gets a thrill whenever she sees him play the drums in his cover band, Chain, she can’t deny that he’s starting to feel like her big, tattooed second child.
In desperate need of a life makeover, her fortune takes a positive turn when she crosses paths with an impulsive, runaway bride who has the connections to help Bianca achieve her goals. Suddenly, doors are being opened for her and she has a fabulous, new job that’s reigniting her zest for life. Too bad Max isn’t on board with these changes, and he starts acting like a jealous jerk, which brings their faltering relationship to a boiling point just about the time Bianca meets Eric, a sexy and charming financial manager. Eric comes from a different world, but one Bianca is increasingly eager to join.
Bianca expects her friends and family to be supportive of her budding romance with Eric, but to her surprise, they’re all on Team Max and they rally behind him when he launches a campaign to win her back. Nothing wrong with bar fights, fake girlfriends, and strategically placed rodents when they're all in the name of true love, right?
Quite by accident her world is transformed overnight, but can a career makeover beautify her love life?
Carol Maloney Scott is a frazzled wife, mom, and wiener dog fanatic. She is a lover of donuts, and a hater of mornings. Now that she has unearthed a childhood passion for writing, she can once again be seen carrying around a notebook and staring into space. Her stories are witty, fresh and real, just like life.
I quite like the story line and I really got stuck into the characters lives. Although, every other line the author used ellipsis’s (...) and it got a bit tedious in the end. If they used this less I would have scored it 4 stars. Not sure about reading any of the other books if that’s their writing style.
This was a nice change of pace from my current reading trends. I did find myself irritated with the characters in the book. None of the guys seemed to know how to listen. Overall, it was a good story and I enjoyed it.
Accidental Makeovers is book four in the Rom-Com on the Edge series. I love reading this series, it’s so fun! Everyone is insane (in a good way of course) so something ridiculous is always happening.
Bianca is not happy with her life: she has a baby daddy whose is more of a baby than their 15-month old son. She doesn’t have the job she wants, a makeup artist, instead she is a waitress for her mum who owns a catering business. She also still lives in her mother’s house. Her life changes when a runaway bride offers her the chance to work in a very high end salon giving society ladies makeovers. Sadly Max is not supportive and just as everything starts to escalate, she meets Eric who is very eager to show her what she has been missing.
I am always happy to be able to revisit the past characters in a series because I don’t believe in “and they lived happily ever after”. They must still have drama in their lives, just because you meet “the one” does not meet that your life magically fixes itself. I want to know that they are still happy and that though they will have problems that they still work them out and they have not changed and are still being true to themselves. So it’s always great to be able to revisit Brandon and Claire and see how they are doing with all the kids and dogs and nannies (lol).
I have said this with the other books in the series but I must mention it again here; this series is hilarious! I am constantly laughing at the crazy antics they all seem to get into. There is so many different characters and they all contribute to make these books so great, I wouldn’t change any of them. I also love the fact that these are not mindless chick lit books that you read when you don’t want to think. These books have intricate story lines with intense plots and strong characters that you just end up falling for.
These group of friends have a very advanced gossip mill. If it were my problems, I would be pissed of course (yes I am a hypocrite I know) but in the case of Bianca, it’s so funny because it seems like everyone’s on Max’s side and helping him win her back. This means that every little thing that happens in her interactions with Eric get back to Max somehow making him redouble his efforts.
Eric is so different from Max! For one thing, he is a bachelor with all these women that he works with that he may or may not have slept with. I don’t like complicated men, it’s too much already that you don’t know how they feel about you but imagine they have all these other prospects! Yikes! He is very charming and from a totally different world where men take women to expensive restaurants and open doors for them. From the beginning, I did not like Eric; there was so much we didn’t know about him and he was just too smooth in my opinion.
On the other hand, Max sits on the couch all day drinking beers and playing video games. If he is not playing then he is just eating. He doesn’t help around the house, he doesn’t think they need to move into their own house, so they keep mooching off Sharon, Bianca’s mum. Bianca hates this because her mum knows everything that’s happening between her and Max, and I mean everything! However he is a great dad and is completely devoted to their son.
Overall I loved the book and it was fun being a beta reader for this book. Thanks for the opportunity Carol, you are awesome.
“I just want to make people look pretty, for God’s sake.” (Kindle Location 2892).
Bianca isn’t satisfied with the turn her life has taken. She waitresses with her mother’s catering company and is in a relationship with her baby’s daddy. She would like to move out of her mother’s house and use her cosmetology license in her job. Her boyfriend and baby daddy Max is fine living in Bianca’s mother’s house, playing video games and playing in his rock band, until Bianca tells him it’s over this time. Now Max must grow up and show how responsible he can be or let the new beau Eric take his place in Bianca’s life.
This book was difficult to read. There were very few dialogue tags and with the amount of characters it was confusing and hard to keep track of who was talking. I had to work to decipher who was talking. The characters didn’t have enough diction differentiation to tell who was speaking based on style alone. Many sentences and character thoughts were also left unfinished. There were many ellipses. I wanted most of those thoughts to be finished and not left hanging.
I didn’t quite care for the main characters. They were adults but many times acted and talked like teenagers. They would sometimes talk things out and communicate all their feelings and other times act on impulse.
Max talks bad about Bianca in his head all the time, specifically pointing out her flaws as a mother and housewife. Because of these thoughts I did not like him. His actions spoke louder than his thoughts, but he was still continuously thinking poorly about Bianca.
I forgot Bianca was a single mother for much of the book because she never really seems like a mother or a single mother because her own mother is always helping her out and she’s not worried much about her kid, unless she wants to introduce him to her new boyfriend.
Eric was perfect and then he was not because as soon as Max wants Bianca back and to make the relationship work, suddenly Eric isn’t so perfect after all.
Carol has done it again. I absolutely love following the characters in the Rom-Com on the Edge series. When I read the first story in this series, I wanted to know how all of the characters stories continued past that book. I am so thrilled that Carol is continuing the series with all of the fun characters we have met in Claire and Brandon's circle. This book follows secondary characters that we met and loved in the first few stories, Bianca and Max. Bianca and Max have and on and off again love affairMax is the drummer in Brandon's band Chain. Bianca is his fed up girlfriend. She wants more out of life and an opportunity falls into her lap. She is tired of waiting around for Mac to better their lives and that of their son, Mick. Bianca takes a chance and moves on with a new career, new boyfriend and new house. Max tries to prove to her that they belong together and that he is the man she wants him to be. Every new turn is an adventure for Bianca, and Max is usually right there to make sure she doesn't forget him. This book is about finding oneself and one's self worth as well as knowing what true love is, even with the obstacles of every day life. I loved how the story developed. As usual, Carol left a lot of loose ends to tie up in a sequel :-)
This is the first book I have read in this series and I feel perhaps I would have benefited from reading them in order not only to glean some insight into the characters but also the writers style.
While it is portrayed as a rom-com I was left feeling as though I had attended a different party .. maybe a slight humour slant between US/UK. I have to say that doesn’t usually cause a problem for me so maybe this just wasn’t quite hitting my buttons on this occasion.
Yes, it is well written, snappy, fun, full of wise cracks but I didn’t gel with Bianca or her baby’s daddy Max, he just wound me up. While I can appreciate that life has it’s ups and downs it seemed a bit OTT or leapt from funny to annoying in seconds.
In fairness to the book maybe I wasn’t in the correct frame of mind to savour it or possibly I’m simply too old .. looking at other reviews it appears to be popular so there must be something in it. Basically, easy to read, fun at times, entertaining and will suit plenty I am sure.

This is the fourth book in the Rom-Com on the Edge series. I haven't read the previous books yet (but have book one sitting on my e-reader waiting for me), so I know this can be read as a stand alone, though if you've read the earlier books, I think you will enjoy revisiting these characters even more.
The story is told in first person, but split between several characters, so although you feel like you know exactly what's going on, you don't have the all seeing eye of the narrator and things still pop up to surprise you.
I liked Bianca and cheered her on throughout the book. I kept changing my mind about who I thought she should end up with, but I was happy with who she chose. There was lots of laugh out loud, light and fluffy moments, interspersed with some deeper ones. A well balanced, entertaining chick lit novel.
I received this book free in exchange for an honest review.
So what really happens after the HEA - does life stop? In this book Carol Maloney Scott does a great job showing the life does move forward and what you thought was going to be bliss maybe its not. At least in the books we all love. The author does a fantastic job with Bianca and Max in showing that maybe life isnt perfect and maybe the guy you are with - you shouldnt be. This to me was an honest betrayal of love and really relationships and how hard you have to work for both. I loved the growth ARCs that both characters faced throughtout the book and how their friends and families influenced them throughout. This is a well thoughtout funny rom com that I would definitely recommend to everyone who wants to see what happens after the HEA.
This is the fourth book in the Rom-Com on the Edge series that I have had the pleasure in reading and it didn't disappoint! I could SO relate to Bianca in the whole baby-daddy/wanting more out of life storyline! It was great to catch back up with the past characters and get to experience life in another character's point of view in a new book! Each book offers a special twist on romantic comedy and none of them have disappointed! Great weekend read for the beach!

Another great rom-com from the author! Each book in the series leaves me wanting to know more about the various characters and their lives. The author does a marvelous job of combining the romance and the comedy. There are a lot of great lines and unusual situations, as well as some fantastic supporting characters. I look forward to seeing what Carol will share with us next about these wonderful people.
Book #4 and I'm still loving this series. What a group of rowdy people to keep me entertained. This book focuses more on Bianca & Max and what is going on in their lives. These books are funny and real though I'm happy this stuff doesn't happen to me. I really enjoy reading these books and following them all in their lives. I want to just keep reading this series to see what else happens. I received a free copy of this book to Read & Review. The Review is my own thoughts and opinions.
I'm giving this book a 3.5 rating. I really enjoyed how it did small chapters of the characters involved. You got to see a sense of what they were thinking or feeling. But, it was a little much. The characters come together and show support for each other. Bianca and Max (the main characters) get a dose of reality when they break up and try to make it without each other. A fast week.
