“I want to know what it feels like to l-love, so I'll know it if I ever do fall properly."

Graysen wants a love potion so he can understand what being in love feels like. But after meeting Aedan the witch, he might not need one after all…

I’m pretty sure I’ve been saying this for a couple reads now, but this was super cute. A shy protagonist, sweet flirting, friends that become more, and magic.

“I like soft boys." "Lucky me," said Graysen, kissing him again, and then again just because he could. "I like witchy boys."

It really was a magical story. I loved the cute gifts Graysen would make for Aedan, the witch just baking all the things for him, the raven familiar. Not gonna lie, Aedan’s cooking low key made me hungry, and I kinda want all his secret recipes.
This was a sweet and cozy super adorable novella.

He still wanted the dessert waiting for them in the kitchen, plus the promised round two, but for now he was content to hold the man he'd grown to love, not through magic or a potion but simple kindness.

CW and tropes (spoilers):
- Mc w/ a stutter
- Witch MC
- Friends to lovers
- Raven familiar
- One spice scene (blowjobs)

A green witch and a lonely human pairing, with so much nurturing. I loved their afternoon tea, enjoyed their conversations over meals and biscuits, and all of the plants!

It's just a super charming novella, feels like a loving and magical slowburn, even though it's quite short.

Highlights:

• When Graysen sat and looked up, there was a skylight high above him atop a shaft that came down from the second storey. Plants grew all around the shaft in window boxes set at regular intervals, a profusion of green growing things that made something inside Graysen relax.

• "There are many small ways to feed the soul," said Aedan seriously. "I am going to give you three plants and instructions on how to care for them, and if you can make them flourish I will use them in your potion."

• "It's not often someone comes to me looking to open their own heart instead of stealing another's."

• "And soft," agreed Aedan rubbing his nose against Graysen's. "I'm all bones and angles, I like soft boys."

• "My cuddle bear," said Aedan with great satisfaction.

From the author's bio: She loves tea and gin, and she hates it when the trees try to have sex in her sinuses. 🤣

Very sweet, slow-building but surprisingly sexy story. (Whoo! Alliteration with susurration sounds for the Win! #Grammar!)

AnYwhoOoo, it started off a bit, well, unexciting. I don't want to say boring because it wasn't; the whole tale plays out like you're reading it through a Maddie-style (Moonlighting?) filter, where everything is subdued and smoky and a little syrupy soft. I actually liked it; it fit the romance rather well. (I'm not wording too good today so this may not come across successfully.)

That said, the alternating blow jobs at the end were, while appreciated, also kind of incongruous given the repeated G-rated tea-dates and innocent gifts exchanged.

But I liked the world-building; for such a short story I got a good feel for the characters and the setting and wouldn't mind reading something else from this author.

The good
+ Slow courting over tea and soup
+ Graysen being adorable
+ The connection and genuine affection built between the MCs over tea and food
+ The gifts they gave each other
+ Hugs!
+ Graysen's bravery
+ The domestic vibes

The neutral
o Personal preference: I prefer "Graysen said" over "said Graysen", but the author clearly has a preference for the latter

The bad
- This was too short. I wanted more of these guys being adorable together

This was absolutely adorable. Domestic courting over tea? Yes please! I just loved this. Would definitely recommend.

What can I even say. Cottage core, a gothic witch, and such sweet sweet love. There are no big twists or drama. Just comforts, sweetness, and such an emotional exploration of feeling disconnected and how love can blossom even in that loneliness.

I probably had tears the whole time because I connected so much to Graysen’s feelings. His little gifts that he gave to Aedan were adorable too.

Highly recommend!

A heartwarming love story, very fluffy and possibly cavity inducing. Beautiful descriptions, from the surroundings to the characters themselves. I’m fairly certain I would love living in a house like Aedan’s. I do wish the story had been a little longer, but I also have a terrible habit of devouring books at speed. All in all a pleasant read that left me feeling contented.

I can't even remember the last time I read a slice of life, no plot just vibes, low angst fantasy/paranormal story like this, but, turns out I was pretty here for it. I'm such a mood reader and I feel like this maybe wouldn't work for me ALL the time, but it certainly worked for me THIS time.

This was cute but not in an OTT adorable, squee! way - more in a soft, lovely way. I'm not sure I would have liked if this was dragged out, but at ~50 pgs, it was perfect. There were no high emotions or plot points, just comfy little scenes of the MCs talking over tea, eating bread and soup and cheese, looking after plants, and apparently falling in love. And then it ended with a gentle little sex scene. Nothing to write home about but the food porn was amazing and I would definitely read another Amy Crook (this was my first). This makes me more interested in Diffidence and the Rift which is on my TBR.

2.5 stars. This was cute and short and super easy. There's not really that much to it, but it's sweet, though almost too sugary for me. The cover really put me off, but I decided to give it a try anyway. Good if you're looking for something really light and cute and short.

This was a surprise, but very sweet and cozy story. The cover is . . interesting. From far away, it looks a mess, but closer up, I can see what they are going for (a reverse Monet?)

Anyhow, if you like the Familiar Spirits series by R. Cooper, you might enjoy this little dollop of magic, as well.

This book was such a pleasant surprise.

Grayson worries because he hasn’t been able to make an emotional connection with other men. (Thank his former boyfriend for commenting on that, bringing it to the forefront.) Grayson decides a love potion on himself might lead him to experience the feelings of love so that he could recognize them in the future. He goes to Aedan’s apartment with a beautiful door with a raven inlet. Aedan is an earth witch.

Aedan doesn’t immediately give him the potion, but instead gives him tasks he must complete in order to get the potion. In the meantime, he invites Grayson to tea with an invitation to more teas in the future, whenever Grayson wants. We get to watch as Grayson, with that incredible kind, considerate, shy, gracious, and yes, loving, heart connects with Aedan through their conversations over tea.

The sweet and gentleness of Graysen really made the story for me, along with Aedan’s appreciation and care he had towards Grayson. I loved how both of them love both the outside and inside of each other. I’ll be returning to this story when I want a gentle, loving story to heal my heart.

Sweet story with likable characters, but there was zero world building or character development. There was reference to the”tube”, i.e.; subway, so I assume this took place in metro London. I think I would have gotten more out of it if I had an understanding of the world they lived in and had some background on who Aeden and Graysen were as individuals.

A charming short story of a man who wants to know how love feels falling in love.
Set in the wold of Amy Crook's Consulting Magic series Grayson goes to earth witch Aedan to get a potion. Aedan also offers Grayson an open invitation to tea.
Fans of the series will love it.

Cute, warm and cosy short story about a guy who wants to love and the witch who shows him how. I thought the writing, particularly the dialogue, was clumsy at times and the sex scene was cringy, but overall it was a lovely short story.

Lovely short story

A very feel good sweet story with sweet characters. Nice little nibble of a read. I enjoyed the setup and characters and would love more but felt content with where it went and ended.

A lonely young man who has never experienced love goes to a green witch for help . Magic and mystical birds help a growing affection between the witch and the nervous young man. It's a short, quick ok read.

Very short, so not much time to develop the characters. I think it would be nice as a longer book. I like it, as I like anything by Amy Crook. It was a sweet story.
