Hello!
Thank you for stopping by.
The short story is I was born in Toronto, Canada. When I was 16, my family moved to Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and that is where I met my wife, Bev.
We've been married for 43 years and share our home in Southwest Missouri with 4 dogs, 3 cats, 8 chickens, a herd of goats. We have 3 sons and 12 grandchildren that keep us hopping.
I've been known to ride my motorcycle in nice weather, play golf in nice weather, and tend my garden in nice weather. In bad weather, I prefer to stay inside. :)
Thanks to the support of you, our readers, I've been able to devote full time to my writing. Bev does our cover designs.
We hope you our books are enjoyable and you'll let us know.
Please feel free to contact us at: jdalglish7@gmail.com or on Facebook
God Bless, John & Bev

This is a fast-paced, short novel, just over four hours. A suburban housewife is murdered on the steps of her front door, and investigation shows no apparent motive. When her son is shot in front of the home a few days later, Jason Strong and Vanessa Lane have new questions to ask, starting in some seemingly unlikely places.

There's a strong story here, and good characters. Both male and female characters are well handled. It's enough to make me believe Dalglish is young enough to have grown up in a world where the personhood of female people is just assumed! (Hey, sorry, but it's a nice change to have seen happen over the course of my lifetime.)

Sadly, this makes it extra noticeable that the narrator, while not bad, does not serve the writing here especially well. He reads all the male parts in a very strong, manly voice. No, that doesn't really convey it. The narrator reads the male parts in A Strong, MANLY Voice! It's mildly annoying, though after the start, it never kicked me out of the story.

The audiobook is still well worth listening to. It may be even easier to lose yourself in the print edition, though.

In an overall enjoyable book, I do have one criticism for Mr. Dalglish, though. Jason and Vanessa discover that the possible villain has posted to Facebook from two public library branches. They visit the two branches, where library staff hand over the required user information--on everyone using the internet from the library in the relevant timeframes, not even information on one particular user--without even asking why, much less asking for a warrant.

Librarians are professionals. We have professional and ethical standards, and your library information is private and protected. The government and its agents don't get to waltz in and browse through it, any more than they can get your phone data or the IP address from which you posted to Facebook without a warrant. The Facebook example isn't random; it's a point explicitly made in the story that not only do they need a warrant to get the Facebook info, but the warrant needs to be as narrow as possible. And Facebook is run by geeks and business people, not by members of a profession for whom freedom of access to information is a core belief. That means that no, Mr. Dalglish, we do not hand over to police information on what library users are reading or when they access the internet on library computers, or what they look at when they do, unless they have a warrant for that information.

And the police in this story had the information they needed to get that warrant. It wasn't even "for the plot," but just because Mr. Dalglish, like so many others, thinks we are file clerks and baby sitters, not professionals with professional standards and professional ethics.

This made me angry, and I'm sorry about that. This really is an enjoyable book. But that doesn't make it okay for a writer to take the time to get it right about what Facebook needs to hand over your information, and then utterly disregard that for the people who are actually educated in saying no to police officers who might just want to go on a fishing expedition. Our professional standards forbid cooperating with that, and in many states that non-cooperation without a warrant is also the law. Maybe not in Texas. But even in Texas, librarians are still professionals, with professional standards and professional ethics.

Recommended anyway.

Deadly Obsession (Detective Jason Strong Book 13) by John C. Dalglish 🏠💔🔎

Deadly Obsession (Detective Jason Strong Book 13) by John C. Dalglish 🏠💔🔎 ~~ I read this on Kindle while listening on Audible, and this was one of the more emotional cases in the series. A suburban mother is murdered only steps from her home, leaving Jason Strong and Vanessa Layne searching for a motive that does not seem to exist. 🏠 As they investigate her life and relationships, the pieces refuse to fit together, while the consequences of the case begin affecting their own partnership. Lives are lost, futures are changed, and the detectives must keep working even when the investigation becomes painfully personal. I enjoyed the emotional depth because the story focused on more than simply identifying a killer. James Killavey’s narration conveyed the seriousness surrounding the victims and investigation. 🎧 This was a suspenseful story showing how an unhealthy obsession can destroy innocent lives and permanently change everyone involved. 📚

Deadly Obsession!!

Book 13 is an emotional roller coaster ride! Murder, attempted murder, lies, half truths and tragedy. I won't give any more of the plot or storyline away, but suffice it to say you won't be disappointed!

The characters in this series seem like old friends taking us along with them as they navigate daily police work all while showing glimpses of their personal lives, theand the emotional toll it takes on them which makes these characters so realistic. We share their frustration, tears, sadness, joy and yes even their prayers.
Well done Mr. Dalglish!

I want to strangle the author

BECAUSE Captain John is a great man. I will not give anything away. After you read this book you will know exactly what I’m talking about. I can’t wait to find out if we will get more details. This book thickens the plot and leaves you anxious. As always the book will deprive you of doing anything other than reading or listening to it. I am trying to figure out what will happen next. I am disappointed that we need to say farewell to Captain Patton. I wish he could have stayed longer. I continue to enjoy each book in this series. The Strong mysteries are clean with little blood or gore. Each book is a page turned and John Dalglish keeps you entranced with the next move the characters will make. I can definitely say John has become one of my favorite authors. I have even let our local library know about him and hope they add his books to their shelves.

Sometimes reading a murder mystery, one loses the feeling that someone dies. Not in this story. That is brought home when a mother is murdered within steps of her front door.

Add to that, former boss, John Patton, who they are close to, has been in a car accident and is critical.

Detective Jason Strong and his partner Vanessa are my favorite characters.

so many flaws

#1. They had the guy. They didn’t put a tail on him until they could confirm a couple things. So they lost him.

#2 so many editing errors. Still. Ridiculous.

#3 and when did Vanessa have a 2nd baby? Last time she was pregnant the baby didn’t make it. But this story says “her kids.”

No trigger warnings needed. Although it's a tough subject matter and the nightmare of many parents, it was handled well in this story. A predator grooming their victim due to their obsession. Another murder mystery solved.

Again up to par.

Did you have to kill off John Patton? I still enjoyed the story even with the death of that important character.

Sad occurrence! I love how this author is not afraid to write like real life. Things don't always work out. Life doesn't always have a happy ending.

This was a very enjoyable murder mystery that kept my attention from start to finish. It is the first Jason Strong audiobook I have listened to and I will look forward to hearing more of them. The story is a stand alone but there are common threads apparent that must run through the other novels. These threads do not distract from the story as the authors writing makes them easy to pick up and understand. The emotion, fear and affection surrounding John Patton is illustrated well by both the writing and the narration. The narrator did a good job of both male and female characters, giving each individual personalities and voices. It is a well written and narrated audiobook, with a fast paced, emotionally charged story that highlights the risks that today's youth can encounter. I received the audiobook in exchange for my honest opinion.

Until next time.

Now that I have read the entire series in a row I look forward to the next installment. However, it is like watching a tv series on Netflix. One book at a time will be tough to handle. #12 was still the star of the series. I have to stop now as the tablet keeps kicking me off. Thanks again.

Mixed Emotions...

First let me begin by saying thank you for the full length novel, and boy was it a good one... but did you really have to kill off one of the good guys? It was almost like a family friend got killed off...

Good, clean mystery.

Daiglish is one of the best mystery story tellers I've read. His plots are easy to follow and his characters are like old friends after a few books. I'm sorry that this is the last Jason novel, at least for awhile. Hopefully, he will be back soon.

Clean and suspenseful.

Another good mystery from John Dalglish. This one had an unexpected turn, which some readers of the series may not like. But it's the unexpected that keeps a series from becoming predictable.

A very exciting and interesting novel. Love the way you made it purposefully suspenseful and a climax and an anticlimactic ending.
