Eat, Sleep, Game… Repeat.

Grieving the losses from the fight with an evil sorcerer, pro gamer and fox-shifter Harper retreats from Wylde to the human world of gaming competitions and conventions. But evil isn’t just a supernatural problem, and when bad guys mess with Harper’s con-going friends, they are about to learn the hard way that she only knows how to do two things: Kick ass, and take screenshots.

(Events in this novel take place between Magic to the Bone and Dungeon Crawl)

Gotta love a world where the black, disabled chick kicks more ass than the resident kick-ass shapeshifters. Also, gamers! Trauma! Grief! Violence! Dead bodies galore!

Yeah yeah yeah, I know this may not sound like the most comforting read (spoiler alert: it isn't) but it's really not depressing as fish + there's non-stop action + the characters are great (and beautifully diverse) + the ending is very satisfying and makes me want to rereread this series (incidentally, one of the best UF series ever 😬). So there.

Harper, my heart breaks for you, but this is simply an amazing story. I loved how we got to hear more from our foxy friend Harper, we get to see her fighting for herself and fighting to get back to herself again. This has been a fantastic series, and the ups and downs have been dramatic, and the thrills have been sublime, and this story has it all. This may be a shorter story, but it packs a mighty punch and will sweep you up and wrap you into an amazing story.

Worth the wait

Totally worth the wait. I absolutely love the way Annie's worrying sucks you in and you feel like you are a part of the story. My only regret is I finished it so quickly.

Animal shifters of color!
Badass human wheelchair user who rescues her own damn self!
GeemerGeete-ish murder mystery!
Trauma recovery!

This book has been a labor of love, with an emphasis on labor, for an author with chronic illness who has faced a number of challenges in the past few years, but this novel is as moving and well written as if it sprung to life fully formed along with the original novel series.

Caveat: I was a crowd funded supporter of this project and am listed in the acknowledgements in the back as such.

"Reality is sometimes people need killing. And sometimes you are the one who has to do it".
Harper wanted to get away from recent stuff and just focus on conventions and gaming. She finds that when you run from something it tends to follow you.
At a big gaming event, she learns of some women who have disappeared. She and a some friends choose to look into the disappearances. During the event another woman disappears after posting a very strange live feed that Harper and the others saw.
While they are addressing this problem and its perpetrators, Harper also finds a way to make peace with her demons and return home. You'll have to read the book to find out how the issue was addressed and peace was achieved.

Fireball finds her way back.

Harper finds her way back from all the death that she has been running away from, and finds that a little bit of justice for others can put it all in a new light. A great book in the D20 series, still one of my favorite series.

Furball

I am not a gamer, but Annie gives just enough information to make the gaming world comprehensible. The adventures are the best part!
