Deadpool was hired to eliminate Wolverine.
description
Let the hunt begin.

I should really like Wolverine's Origins, but every time I try to read it I realize I just don't enjoy the story. The premise is good, but the execution leaves me wanting something more. Adding Deadpool doesn't really help because he's an obnoxious idiot. I've tried, I don't like it, and now I'm done with the series.

Its a fun volume as Wolverine fights Deadpool. We see the craziness that he is and the multiple voices he has in his head plus how he goes about killing his targets and the silly fights and tricks he uses for Wolverine and then when he captures him, the real torture and talk of the psychology between the two starts and I love that about this comic volume. Plus we see who actually hired Deadpool and Wolverine and Daken and the counter wars and seeing how it was Logan's plan to get his son this way. Then a flashback to Daken's past and how he met Romulus and Wolverine takes him to a place where he trained others but now they are after him and a big price will be paid.

Its a good one and answers so many thing and a series which is so dark. It manages to have that humor and have comedic moments like the way Wade sees Logan and the others or his dual talk with himself and finally a look at the past and the dark art style there was a welcome change. I like how quick the fight is and not holding anything back and everything. And next up: Original Sin!

Note to self: never read a Wolverine/Deadpool book on the same day you just finished reading Remender's spectacular rendition of Deadpool in Uncanny X-Force. After that mastery of the high-wire act that is Wade Wilson, it's impossible not to see this "zoinks!" approach in a dim light.

It exacerbates this impression by using Steve Dillon as the series artist here. He does a good job for what Dillon brings - which is a plain, no-frills linework and staging of the scenes. It's fine, just again doesn't measure up to the amazing work done by all the artists on Uncanny.

Fortunately the bad jokes get further and fewer between, the action doesn't let up until the climax, and the climax actually turns out to be a helluva lot deeper than it had any credit for getting down to. I can honestly say that despite the rocky start I had with this (my own baggage), I had a good time with this and enjoyed the final interplay banter and twist that Way brought to the bloody party.

Wolverine fights Deadpool who's been hired to take him out. But who's the mysterious figure intruding upon their duel and what does it have to do with Logan's dark past?

Daniel Way does a fine job with the book, writing Deadpool's caustic and flip dialogue very well and keeping the action coming thick and fast. Steve Dillon does a good job as well and has some fun with some of Deadpool's delusions in portraying Wolvie in plenty of silly versions.

The second story following on the heels of the first's ending takes a darker tone and goes into Logan's disturbing past and the Weapon X days.

It's a decent book that isn't essential reading for comics fans but is good fun and enjoyable enough if you're a fan of either characters.

I've never liked Deadpool. I can't find him funny and he gets on my nerves at supersonic speed so I can't say I was thrilled with this volume.

From where I stand it was a long bad episode of Wile E. Coyote and the Roadrunner Wolverine. One or two nice things here and there like Deadpool's delusionals visions of Wolvie but the rest is (intently) ridiculous, overstretches all limits of credibility and just doesn't do it for me.
Come to think of it, what was the point of including Deadpool in the storyline anyway? Ah, Marvel, what won't you do to make an easy buck....

After a reprint of Deadpool's first appearance- yeah, right, I hate the character already and just needed to be reminded he was created and drawn by Rob Liefeld- a way darker 2-parter ensues, revealing Daken's origins.
Drawn by Stephen Segovia, who wishes he were Leinil Yu but is not, it demonstates if needed be that Wolvie's cub is a natural born psychopath. Vindictive with about as much empathy than a kitchen sink, I really don't know what to make of so uninteresting a character. Best not to care I guess.
These 2 issues were not uninteresting though. If Romulus remains as shady as can be his role in the whole gig slowly starts to get revealed and the past scenes with Burr, Hudson and co were nice. Can't say the same with the corny present scenes with the experiment's rejects.

If you like Deadpool you're gonna have a ball with this one. If not, well, grit your teeth and go for the next book.

Usually in a comic fight between 2 heroes (or anti-heroes) is a bunch of speeches or one-liners, this just came off as natural back and forth between Wolverine and Deadpool. And no better reason to go all out on each other then that they are both killers. A 5 issue fight that i think took less then an hour for them. The whole thing was very entertaining, very funny and done well. In the end the reason for the fight was a lil disappointing. Deken's involvement was almost getting annoying until he faced Deadpool. And the montage of past events culminating to the showdown between Deken and Logan was great. The feeling that small events thru the series lead up to that.
Finally the 2part Son of X with events from Wolverines days in Weapon X coming back to bite him in the ass, yet again. Was an ok story.

This volume was mostly just one long fight between Wolverine and Deadpool, which was pretty good really if you can handle some silliness in your fights. Then we had an origin of Daken which to me wasn't as good as the Deadpool issues.

This was probably the best volume of the series so far, and I'm not even a huge Deadpool fan. It was good to just see some mindless fun for a change.

This review is probably not a great reflection of this volume since I have not read any other part of this Wolverine: Origins series. I simply picked this up for Deadpool.

The first 5 issues consist of the promised Deadpool vs Wolverine battle, which to my surprise was not very entertaining. Deadpool's wit and humor wasn't up to par and the fighting itself was uninspired. I would describe the duel as moderately more interesting than watching a thumb wrestling match. These two can regenerate which in my mind meant that the fighting tactics should have been violent and over the top.

Towards the end of this volume the story kicks in, previously you didn't need to know much about the Wolverine series as this was just a back and forth beat 'em up. This changes and the last 2 issues have nothing to do with Deadpool as the Origins story continues. During this part of the volume I vacillated between confusion and indifference but regardless I found I was bored.

This run of WOLVERINE: ORIGINS is a fun romp. It's hard to go wrong with the wild and wacky lunacy of Deadpool unleashed. Writer Daniel Way obviously had a chortle or two while writing this portion of the series, and I've been a fan of Steve Dillon's art since PREACHER. I've read some criticisms that Dillon's art doesn't fit the dynamic needs of a Wolverine title, but I think it's great. Where it may lack in background detail, it more than makes up for in character expression.

Worth the 30 minutes it takes to read. Just "good clean fun."

Here's a quick snippet:

DEADPOOL (TO A WOMAN HE'S PAID OFF TO DISTRACT WOLVERINE WITH HER PANICKED SCREAMS): ...you really sold it! Even I believed you and I KNEW it was all fake!

WOMAN: Really?

DEADPOOL (COUNTING OUT MONEY): Oh, yeah! Here, I'm gonna give you a little extra--go get a headshot done, okay?

WOMAN (MONEY IN HAND): You mean, like, for auditions? Wow, you really think I could do that?

DEADPOOL: Absolutely! Listen, I've heard it all: people begging for their lives, death howls... and that scream of yours ranked right up there with them.

WOMAN: "Death howls?"

DEADPOOL (POINTING AT WOMAN WITH PINKY FINGER SINCE WOLVERINE HAS CUT OFF ALL HIS OTHER FINGERS): Yeah! It's this noise that happens when people scream in pain right before they die. It's really strong at first but then it just kind of trails off--because there's not another breath behind it, you know?

WOMAN GAPES.

DEADPOOL (WOLVERINE IN BACKGROUND, EMERGING FROM A WALL OF FLAMES): Hey! That's good, too! "Mortal terror," right? You nailed it!

WOMAN RUNS AWAY.

Three stars (out of five). Almost four stars, but the ending was a little contrived.

This was a strong book in a pretty strong series. The fight between Deadpool and Wolverine is correctly ludicrous and entertaining (if a little drawn out), and we finally get to see Wolverine take out Daken (and we've been waiting 15 issues or so....) I've seen some complaints about the mischaracterization of Deadpool in this book, but Deadpool has always seemed to be to be one of those characters who deeply reflects the author. Plus, I'm not sure how "seriously" his characterization should be taken, anyway.

Anyway, as good as that is, the last two stories, revolving around Wolverine's exploits with Japanese detainees during WWII and Daken's childhood in Japan are excellent, and poignantly contrasted. Also, the new artist VASTLY improves the mood of the piece.

The only thing complaints are the drawn out W/D fight (like 4 issues...that's a pretty long fight...) and the ending. Amnesia? Really? (Hopefully, that's just a misunderstanding-type cliffhanger and not an actual plot device.)

U-Turn. Into silly and Slapstick. I agree with Mike, compared to Remender doing Logan and Wade, this is not good. However, it progresses the story, and there's a very cool endgame with Bucky making good for his past actions.
The last issues are done by an artist other than Dillon, and they're awful to look at.
Also stupid shit about more experiments that have been alive in a cave since WWII....? Nope, not gonna buy that.

However an interesting ending note so I'm ready for next volume ...

Deadpool, volume 5 of the Wolverine: Origins series. A continuation of my Wolverine revisit.

As you can tell by the title, this volume co stars Deadpool, the merc with the mouth. Depending how you feel about the character of Deadpool, this may affect your enjoyment of this volume. Parts of the story are told from his fourth wall breaking, comedic nature. When I first read this, it was my introduction to the character.

Unlike previous volumes, this one doesn’t delve into the history between characters in Wolverines life. I was expecting to see the origins of Wolverine and Deadpools relationship. In fact, unlike the previous volume most of this one is spent in the present.

The Deadpool storyline, which takes up the majority of this volume is very much popcorn action fare. And it’s great! Seeing these two characters duke it out was very entertaining.

The main storyline involving Daken gets some forward momentum as well, both in the Deadpool section but also in the second storyline here: Son of X. This is where the storyline returns to the past and we get some revelations regarding Dakens past and upbringing. This helps us understand why he is like he is.

Regarding the artwork, the Deadpool storyline has the same style as the majority of the series so far. The more colourful style certainly suits the action packed blockbuster. Son of X has a darker and more detailed style. In keeping with the tone of story, and some of the creepy elements introduced.

After the slight bump in the road that was the previous volume- Our War, Deadpool is a fun and action packed return to form. With some more hints at the mystery character of Romulus. From here the storyline continues in X-Men Legacy: Original Sin (not to be confused with the event of the same name), and then returns to Wolverine: Origins - Dark Reign.

it's issues #21 till #25

i dont like wade's depiction as much both in the artstyle and how he's shown as a lunatic with twisted vision of reality
he still got that body ody ody though

issue #24
"you really love the sound of your own voice, dont ya? shut up."
wade's daddy flashbacks
"seriously what the hell is yer problem, deadpool? daddy not give you enough attention?"

"from somewhere your dark and secretive past it comes out that you attended college and received a psychology degree? what liek on some super secret mission? and you were all like 'imthe best there is an what i do is psychoanalayze. tell me about your mother. oh and i bet freud's death wasnt a suicide at all- it was you that pumped that morphine into his arm , right?"

"yknow i know some people think im just a failed attempt at recreating you but theyre the morons because they cant understand that im something else."

"the merc with a mouth. good shots and bad jokes -- thats me."

"talk about hypocrisy! i mena if they let you in, youd think theyd let anybody in but noooo...
you wanna? yer not even a mutant!
no im not. but im not exactly human am i? yknow maybe they did only want you because they were afraid of you... or because they could use you. but at least they wanted you. abandonment issues? perhaps some unresolved conflicts with your father? i suppose i shpuld sympathise..."

in #25 his son comes to 'save' him from deadpool
"last of the mohawkians" lmao

"youre just like him...
you should not have said that. [...] he's my father and im going to kill him for it. not you."
as his son gets the claws out "this wont hurt a bit.
yes, it will.
no it wont. bucky's a helluva shot." mf winter soldier cameo

aaaand logan put bucky hire wade to come after logan so that his son would come as well and he would fix his brain or whatever "it took almost a hunded years to get my own mind back. now im gonna get yours back too. cmon son. it's gonna be okay. yer with me now."

average at 2.5 stars
logan-wade dynamic is good though

Basically just one long fight sequence between Wolverine and Deadpool, and it’s awesome.

The action that makes up the whole comic is very energetic, lots of fun moments and brutal stab wounds. The art is pretty standard for this era, but the design of Wolverine was simultaneously good and weird, which means some panels he looks great, and others are just a bit awkward (and no, I’m not talking about the intentionally bizarre ones from Deadpool’s POV). The dynamics between the 2 leads are lots of fun, I always enjoy their chemistry, and even when they’re trying to kill each other, it still feels unserious.

The final confrontation when Wolverine is tied up as we learn about their morals, and Wade’s backstory was very interesting. The dialogue is very analytical and revealing, while remaining in character for each man, I found it neat to see a side to this relationship not often explored. But then, we get the reveal as to who hired Deadpool, and Wolverine’s big plan, and it becomes evident that I should’ve read the other comics because everything about this reveal comes completely out of nowhere. It probably would’ve made more sense with context, but for me, a character who was not previously established, comes out of literally nowhere, and tries to kill Deadpool and Wolverine, he’s then killed by Winter Soldier, who is a literal Deus Ex Machina, and then Wolverine explains the backstory to this random guy I never met. This isn’t a critique, because I’m the one who didn’t do the homework, but it’s just funny how chaotic this ending is.

Any graphic novel with Deadpool and Wolvie in it is a good graphic novel in my book. In this final volume of the Origins story arc, The Merc with the Mouth has been hired to take out Wolverine once and for all so that S.H.I.E.L.D. can relax and the powers that were behind the orchestration of Wolverine's tortured past can rest easy. Of course, as with anything Logan related, it's just not gonna be that easy.

Logan finally remembers all of his past, and he is out for revenge. Deadpool doesn't quite care about any of that, but does what he's hired to do and in his usual extremist, hilarious fashion. The contrast between the two characters is stupendous, along with a rather touching comparison of both of their lives. And this shouldn't be a surprise to anyone as he's on the cover of the volume, Logan's son, Daken, returns to the scene to seek out his own revenge against his father.

The whole "conclusion," put in quotation marks because it's never concluded when it comes to graphic novels, is a stunning culmination of Logan's story and beginning his next trial of attempting to be a father to his misbegotten son. A fantastic set of volumes for any collector, or any fans of Wolverine.

Deadpool is hired to kill Wolverine and after designing an elaborate plan to take out the mutant, he eagerly gets to killin'. But Logan is one hard cookie and they battle it out across the city until it finally seems that Wolverine is done for. Suddenly a weirdo with a mohawk steps in and says that he is Logans soon and therefore the only one who gets to kill him. A gunshot takes out the younger mutant and it is revealed that Wolverine had teamed up with Bucky to hire Deadpool and lure out Logans son. It was the only way Logan could reunite with his son and help him fix his evil ways. Deadpool is left mutilated on the ground but ready for revenge as soon as his limbs grow back.

The story and fight scenes were fun but the drawing style was wacky at times. Wolverine didn't look right. He's usually so hunky and handsome.

This comic was in Deadpool the complete collection vol. 1 and contained issues 21-25. I added it individually to catch up with my reading challenge and maker the reviewing easier.

Your enjoyment of this entry is going to be highly based on how much you can tolerate Deadpool. Now this series is already kind of difficult for me to read because I can’t stand Steve Dillion’s art style and it was only exasperated by how much I can’t stand Deadpool. Like the end is sorta worth it I guess??? But I feel like overall they really could have replaced Wade with LITERALLY ANYONE ELSE and the story would have been fine. This volume is also just a huge tonal shift from the ones that come before it and in the end it’s kind of unnecessary. If I could give it 0 stars I would but I guess 1 will have to suffice.

Continuing the x-read of 17/18...

This volume isn't terrible, it's just quite bland. There's a long fight between Wolverine and Deadpool that manages to be mostly boring followed by more drama featuring Daken (who I just haven't grown to care about yet...). And all of it feels pretty flat to me.

This was a very enjoyable read. I was not so sure what to expect... The previous volume of Wolverine Origins was really boring, and I never had a thing with Deadpool. But the pages flew by and it was really entertaining. The second part of the volume was a lot darker, but also very good. I like getting to know Daken better and learning of his past.

Some of the best action I’ve read in ages, with a whole lot of Deadpool humour to go with it. The last 2 issues change pace and focus on Daken, making him even less sympathetic than before, which is saying something.

A brisk, violent jaunt, and another example that Daniel Way knows how to write really well for Deadpool.

A perfectly fun and well drawn extended fight scene which had perhaps over stayed it's welcome by the fourth or fifth issue.

My copy also included Deadpools first ever appearance in New Mutants #98 which has dreadful art and a humdrum story. I liked Sam tho.
