In the preface to this book, the author Achyut Godbole brings up an interesting idea:
Is Mathematics a discovery, or an invention? Laws of physics and chemistry would exist even if there were no humans to measure them. But would algebraic equations and calculus exist without us?
Laws of physics seem to be the same across the universe. Would the mathematics of aliens be same like us?

This was the first book by Achyut Godbole which I read and got mesmerized. This is a history of mathematics. How human beings learnt mathematics and its journey until now. This book has stories of several mathematicians across the world. Good to read book.

I love the method of historical story telling.
And no matter how many times I ask "how long we are going to boast of our past. When we will start living in present?", I still feel proud to read about our "learning, sharing" culture which gave importance to "arguments, discussions ...". Loved the book
