Pecola Peters found herself standing in a courtroom before a judge in the middle of nowhere Montana getting married to a burly rancher with kind eyes and thick black hair - because of two ugly women. Hideous would be a correct term for how the two women looked in appearance but not in temperament, yet they had gotten married – to two good men. Good looking men of means. For a decent looking woman like Pecola with a horrible dating history, combined with the recent reality of two men physically running away from her, such an imbalance in the fairy tale is what pushed her to this ending. Today she was getting hitched. In Montana. In the middle of nowhere. To a burly rancher with kind eyes and thick black hair named Billy Joe Johnson.

Really enjoyed this one, Olivia comes out with some unique characters which in turns makes me laugh. I promise I loved everything about this these characters Avery and Pap stole the show.
I have fallen into the trap. Wide open spaces, hot ranchers and mail order brides have taken over my brain. This story is my second MOB book this week!
Pecola was a romance writer who wanted a love of her own. Writing MOB novels from her Brookstone in Brooklyn wasn't doing it for her anymore. She was stuck in a rut and needed a change. When she eavesdropped on a couple of 'ugly ladies' talking recklessly about her latest novel, she decided enough was enough. She took the plunge and signed up for the mail order bride service.
Billy Joe was a former professor who moved back home to Montana to run his family's ranch. He loved the ranch, but wanted the companionship of a woman who could understand his literary mind. He heard about the mail order bride service and painstakingly took his time to find the right woman.... Pecola.
This story was charming and I wanted to cry with poor Pecola on her wedding night. Old boy was a hound who just needed a release. I was happy she was patient with him enough to show him what she liked and how to really love her. Once he got it right, he got it right!
I enjoyed the secondary characters, especially Pap with his made up words and untapped wisdom. I hated how Pecola was treated when she introduced to the townsfolk at the barn raising. I may have made a few enemies with those ignorant folks. Pecola was a good one. When they started surrounding her and touching her hair and skin it was a bit much. It made me all kinds of uncomfortable, but that's what good writing does.
I wanted to smack Billy Joe's cousin Avery when she attached herself like a leech to Pecola's brother Zach. When she exclaimed I ain't never been with a black man before, I wanted to shake her. She was a little over the top with her aggressive behavior to a strange man. It felt like I was watching Mandingo for a second. I'm still tripping at the shotgun wedding.
This was a good book. I enjoyed the characters as well as the storyline.
To be succinct, I enjoyed reading this captivating tale of love, lust, and intimacy. The world building was lovely, and the snark made this one a lot of fun to read, as well.
This book was a warm and fuzzy feel-good read with enough action and sass to satisfy! The characters' unique personalities and the storyline were wonderfully developed, and I loved every minute of it. I couldn't put this book down!!! I'm looking for book 3 of the series right now! Thanks Olivia ❤️
😅😁😂Wow, what an incredibly weird unusual story. Sometimes it was difficult to read, I mean with all the "country-bama" grammar. I had to re-read several passages..But I wasn't irritated by it. It's how the characters speak not the result of sloppy editing. It takes some getting used to but it's worth it. I choked on laughter more than once. The characters are so open, real and true to their nature. "What you see is what you get." I wish I could have read about the slime ball Rev, Banker & sheriff getting their comeuppance.😡 But all in all I really liked this three ring circus and you may also.😊
The main characters irritated me so much, mainly William with the dumbed down speech. The "jostling" was never sexy. At any point. This might as well be labeled a clean romance. I also found the cousin's blatant sexual desperation a tad disturbing. Zach's response to her clingy nature and the ultimate result is very unrealistic.
If i see the word jostling one more time i may scream. This author made the man an assistant professor of English who couldn’t speak proper English the entire book. Just no.
This is a awesome story with fantastic characters that are captivating with a relationship that is entertaining and full of humor and drama. The couple's chemistry is full of sizzling passion that burn the pages. This is one of my favorite series from this author's work and I can say with I enjoyed this story the author's writing is great. I enjoyed this story the heroine strong and so believable with her behavior. Although there is lots of humour that it's off the chart even though they only just recently met.It can bring tears to your eyes it's so emotional. The characters are captivating There were quite a few things that's great with this book, and it's absolutely enjoyable to read. It's one that I didn't put my Kindle down until I finished the story. I'm so excited to read the next book in this series.
Pecola marries William and on their first night, she thought there would be some romance and there was not. So she has to teach him the art of Romance and he has to teach her the way of the land. She also has to inform him she has money from writing books and can help him. She helps him build his relationship with his brother(Chad) who gave Pecola a hard time until she showed him she could give it back insults just like he was. When Pecola had to go to New York for an award is where William and his cousin (Avery ) meet her brother ( Zachary). There Avery and Zachary hit it off and then they are the next getting married 5 stars
The cutest tale ever. The characters in this book will have your head spinning, your heart laughing and have you cheering for romance. You will also cheer for the strength of the trail blazing courage of Pecola to step out deep into the unknown. The book makes the great point that you should woo your spouse with all the loving ways you can count. Billy Joe and Pecola along with Zachary and Avery are so worth spending time with in Montana. So go raise a barn and dance the night away
I love how these characters grow and develop together. The crux of this story for me was the willingness of the hero and heroine to either learn to do different as in make an effort or to teach in patience and love to have the needs of the other met. I also liked the bit of mystery that played in who was behind the sabotage. Good, fun, beautiful setting, amusing characters, witty dialogue, meaningful story without the drawn out fou, fou filler. Great Job Ms. Gaines!
This is an awesome story of love desired and achieved. Pecola is an author of mail order bride romances, among other titles. Billy Joe is a college professor that talks down. Together they make an explosive couple. I loved thus book, I felt as if I were right there in Montana with them. Avery and Zachary were wonderful also. I highly recommend thus book. Laugh out loud funny.
I loved the story line, a lot of humor to keep me entranced and realistic reactions of being the only black person in a 30 mile radius. But the initial dialect of the hero was unnecessary. And I'm not a fan of the story line of Zachary and the cousin. I'm along William's opinion, his cousin did not need to be so forward and Zachary needed to exercise control.
This is a romance about a modern Mail Order Bride. He is from a small town in Montana and she is a famous author having issues with her books. This is very heart warming. They are real people. Pecola and Billy Joe are really cute together. They have to learn to be a couple because they have talked thru letters, email and phone. There are issues that they have to deal with and dreams that they have. This is a great read.
… book 2 in this series… another win! Great story! Funny, romantic and more details following the slow burn, which I appreciate. It could still use more intimate details but this was an improvement over book 1. Importantly, the story wasn’t bogged down with too much extra dialogue, especially first person, and didn’t drag on with endless drama… nice read!
I was intrigued enough by North to Alaska to read this book. Pecola, an author, overhears 2 women say her latest book was not realistic and clearly the author had not had intimate relations. Nothing you know Pecola is married to William Joseph/Billy Joe owner of a ranch. Billy Joe wants to turn it into a retreat and Pecola thinks a writes retreat is a good idea. Of course all does not go well. Well the story is interesting, I did struggle connecting with both Pecola and Billy Joe
I've read almost all the MOB books. This one made me laugh a lot. Billy Joe and Pecora were married and she became the first Black person to inhabit this small mountain town. Bad things tried to happen but it all worked out in the end.
People can be devious and murderous for the love of money.
Taking a leap of faith for love is never easy. I enjoyed this book, I laughed and was happy when all worked out for the couple. They were determined to love each other and please each other In bed. Avery was a beauty and happy to find a man that didn’t want her for being beautiful. Instead it made her hot for his body and the girl got the man too!
I fell in hate with this book in the first chapter but I knew I had to see it through! Ms Olivia has never let me down and she didn't this time either. Great imagery of Montana, a fierce heroine, and a cowboy had me turning pages when I should have been sleeping! Pecola and William were written for each. You won't be able to put this one down! I garenbetcha 😂
It was funny & cute. Pecola was a little strange but endearing. The Avery & Zachary stuff felt shoehorned in there & took me out the story a bit. Their mini love story was odd in the middle of the main love story. Also having Avery fetishize him like that was super cringe.
One of the funniest stories I've read. Loved all the characters and I can imagine how they speak, it just makes me chuckle all the time. Brilliantly light hearted and witty .
I enjoyed this book so much I had a hard time putting it down I laughed a lot and wish there was more to read! I was really enjoying all the characters too! Thanks so much for sharing.
This is the first time I've ever read any of ms Gaines books. It was so totally different from the others bwwm books I've read. Loved it. Could not stops smiling as I read . Finished it to soon need to get the rest of the series .
Loved the two main characters; hit was a pleasure reading Billy Joe and Pecola. Pap was funny with his antics along with Avery. She was a bit forward for likings. Overall, good read and funny.
I loved this book. Our if all the book I have written by Olivia Gaines, this one is the best this far. With all the characters, she need to create more books from this story line.
Sooo good. Excellent story. The details were so clear, made it seem as though you were right in the story. I loved all the characters. This is the third book I have read of the Mail Order Brides series, just love, loved it. I look forward to reading the next. 😃
This story is beautifully and humorous in every aspect of story telling. I loved reading it and will definitely continue on it this series. I really enjoyed the shotgun wedding scene. Priceless
