Rate this book
Unwanted. A word eighteen-year-old Kaelyn Jefferies knows better than most. Given up at birth, she knows nothing of love. Now she navigates this world blind, worrying only about her present to survive. And sometimes when you’re the only guide you have, you don’t always do what’s best for yourself.

After another confrontation with her bully, Kaelyn flees to her hiding spot to be alone and nurse her wounds. Instead, she finds Julian Ean, the gorgeous twenty-four-year-old calculus teacher the other girls whisper about, nursing a few of his own. Until that moment, Mr. Ean was simply a man she passed in the halls. Afterwards, he is impossible to ignore … to forget.

Mr. Ean only wanted to help Kaelyn. Patch her up and show her she was worth so much more than she was giving herself. He didn’t mean to fall in love with a student. It’s wrong, he knows it, but he can’t help himself around her. Not when her pain feels like his.

Kaelyn didn’t mean to fall in love with a teacher. It’s wrong, she knows it, but after Mr. Ean shows her what a real smile feels like, there’s no going back after that …

Under the Peaches by Shana Vanterpool is a teacher/student romance, but it is unlike any I have read before. Usually I find these type of romances to be heavy on the lust and sex and light on the emotion. That isn’t the case here. While there is definitely plenty of steam, the emotion in this story is what, days later, I remember most about it.

Kaelyn Jeffries is an eighteen year old senior in high school that is bullied relentlessly. She looks forward to her lunch break where she can avoid the other students and go sit outside in her spot, a cement bench on the side of the school where she can be left completely alone with her emotions. Imagine her surprise when one day someone else is sitting in her special place. Needless to say, she is not happy about having her space encroached upon.

Julian Ean, a twenty four year old calculus teacher, is sitting outside dealing with some problems of his own when a red-haired girl with a busted lip appears looking less than thrilled to see him there. He offers her a seat and immediately tries to find out what happened to her. Kaelyn isn’t used to anyone caring about her. Her birth parents didn’t care about her, none of her foster parents ever cared about her, the kids at school certainly don’t care about her, and up until this point, her teachers have practically ignored her. After some persuasion, she reluctantly allows Julian to clean up her face and give her some of his lunch.

Though their relationship begins innocently enough with Julian trying to help out a student in need, as they spend more and more time together, it becomes apparent that they have feelings for each other that go beyond what is appropriate for a student/teacher relationship. Both of them are going through difficult times in their lives, and they provide support and comfort to one another when they need it most.

Kaelyn is a heroine that I felt for, but that also frustrated me. Abandoned, abused, and neglected, she has been shown repeatedly by others that she is unwanted her whole life. Throughout the book, she says and does things that are self destructive, immature, and aggravating, but when I really thought about it, I realized that it made sense for her to behave that way. She hasn't had any real relationships in her entire life. The closest thing she had to one was with a boy that used her to cheat off of, for sex, and to boost his self esteem. How can I expect her to know how she should behave in any type of relationship? How can I expect her to not be riddled with self doubt over every little thing? Why would she know the right things to do when all she has ever been shown is the opposite? She is bound to make a lot of mistakes. Even if she didn't have such a terrible childhood, we all make mistakes, but especially in our young life. Kaelyn is only eighteen, and I had to remind myself of that.

Julian is also a character that I wasn't 100 percent in love with. From what I have seen, most people seem to be, so maybe it's just me. Julian may be more mature than Kaelyn, but he often seemed younger than he was supposed to be. It was weird how he immediately started telling her about his personal life in the way that he did. That was pretty unprofessional and inappropriate right off the bat. Then, he would compare the things she said to him to what his ex-fiancé used to say to him. Again, it felt odd to me. Not to mention, anytime a boy or man showed any interest in Kaelyn, he got upset and behaved like a child. Then, she would get all worried and freak out over it. The whole thing was ridiculous. Another issue that bothered me was his insistence that she look for her birth parents or that she deal with her feelings about it right away. Sadly, I know a large number of people that have been abandoned by their parents, and the way he was handling it rubbed me the wrong way. In fact, he seemed downright pushy and manipulative about a lot of things even though his heart may have been in the right place.

Despite the problems I had with him, he genuinely cared for Kaelyn. He took care of her, comforted her, made her feel wanted, stood up for her, and most of all, he loved her. Julian's main concern was always Kaelyn. It's clear that he is devoted to her and that he only wants what is best for her. That's what redeemed him to me. He showed her that she was worth something, and that she deserved to be loved and treated well.

Though Kaelyn and Julian drove me crazy at times, they are just people. People are not perfect. They are full of flaws, imperfections, and insecurities. That's what makes us human. These characters felt real, the emotions felt real, and the story was touching. I wasn't thrilled with the way the book ended, but I am hoping/thinking that we are going to get another book about these characters which allowed me to forgive that for the most part.

Under the Peaches was a forbidden romance with more depth than I expected. The author's writing style immediately drew me into the story and allowed me to feel all of the emotions along with the characters. If you are looking for a student/teacher romance between two flawed individuals, you might want to give this one a try!

This is a forbidden taboo love story between an eighteen year old student and a twenty-four year old teacher.

As your reading it you can pick up on the undercurrent of you know it’s going to happen feeling, sometimes they border on what’s right and what’s oh so wrong.

They know it’s wrong, we know it’s wrong but when it feels so right how can it be so wrong??

These two have a deep seated friendship that was formed when they were both at their lowest, he was going through a difficult time in a relationship and she was the product of in school bullying, and from there it progressed, yes it does border towards more on many occasions, you may even cringe a few times because you know it’s going to happen between them and you know it will have severe repercussions.

Times she’d gotten on my nerves so bad but then I settle the crazy within and remind myself that she is only eighteen.
The feels are there, the angst is there, the heartbreak is there, the love is there, and through it all it’s a mush pit of an emotional pull on your heartstrings that keeps you reading chapter to chapter.

Be aware that this deals with bullying at it's worst

This felt like a long 300 pages. Not because the storyline was slow but because the woe is me, bullying and ungrateful ex stuff went on for so long. I always find with books like this - with characters that feel sorry for themselves- that the pace feels slower and drags more. I wanted them to get to the point of saying 'fuck the past' sooner and move forwards instead of wallowing. It was all a bit depressing focusing on the negative above the positive (much like my review).

As for the student teacher aspect -
There's not a lot of resistance relationship wise from either of them and the angst around them being found out is pretty low.
The ending was okay, no epilogue, just a note to say the end, for now.

Julian (aka Mr.Ean) is my FOREVER
**Arc provided for an honest review**
I couldn't be more honest then this

This book is the BOMB!!!
YOU HAVE TO READ IT!!

My only Question was -- Are you trying to kill me Shana??
She was filling me with all the Julian's Sweetness...
I was drunken in the sweet love with that man !!
He's made me crazy and giddy...

"How did I last this long without someone like him in my life?
The answer is clear and painful. I didn't.
I wasn’t aware that my right now was my yesterday and tomorrow."

This is the story of Kaelyn nd Mr.Ean(aka Julian)
Their story, their fight, the way they met it's like the author was trying to slow poison me with their love...

I'm so freaking glad to get this arc ...

I have never felt so powerful with any books...

“I want to give you everything you want.”

Kaelyn's story was deep rooted in my heart, her words dug deep and made roots, the bullying, the unwanted feeling, it's like I was there seeing her...

I felt the self doubt, the dou t of not having the capability to love herself and others, those big question that she always had in her mind...
I was going through with her when she was having those deep inner talks I felt like it was me sitting there...
The times when You couldn't put your finger as to when that deepness will hit the mark, makes you burn those feelings, get you go crazy, Kickstart the overthinking cycle and leads you to bad decision and then your world slipping thorugh your fingers when it barely was standing on the ground...
It's those times when you think that this is it but this is life and there's always twist involved, you wouldn't even know what will hit and you'll be tumbling down..
ALL THIS THOUGHTS WERE IN MY MIND WHILE READING....

At times there's always something holding you up ..
For kaelyn I could say Mr. Ean was the one that hit her heart immediately like a Knight not to catch her but to make her understand how to hold herself even at difficult times, to make her feel all the loved, Safe and Secure❤❤

Kaelyn suffered so much in her life that she nearly doubted his knight n shining armour..The reason of her doubt tho
Was the past, the way she was brought up,
Not being able to see light in her life always held in the gloomy fog she didn't see her light but it's Me. Ean he's like the barreling train with one stop one goal
Love Her !!
Just Love her

“Don’t be afraid to be happy, Kael.
Don’t let your fears get in the way of us.”

He did everything in his power to love her to make her love herself HE IS THE EPITOME OF A lover he's like The Imperfectly Perfect Book Boyfriend ❤❤

Title: Under The Peaches
(Teaching Love #1)
Author: Shana Vanterpool
Genre: New Adult/Contemporary/Romance
Release Date: 2.28.17
My Rating: 5 Mr. Ean gives me all the feels Stars!

I swallow my emotions. "Still want to get to know me?"
"I would love to."
"Why?"
"It's who I am. And I'm wondering if anyone has ever gotten to know you. I want to. You're...different."

(Oh. My. Word. I just finished Under The Peaches and I'm pretty emotional right now so forgive me for fangirling throughout this review!)

Strong female lead who doesn't know how strong she is?
Check!
Unbelievably GORGEOUS and sensitive love interest who just so happens to be a teacher?
Check!
A rollercoaster romance with lots of swoon-worthy moments?
Check!

All Kaelyn Jefferies has known is the feeling of being unwanted. Being tossed from one foster family to the next, Kaelyn has closed herself off to the rest of world because the rest of the world ignores her anyway. At 18-years-old she struggles with more hurt and insecurity than anyone, at any age should. With no friends to speak of and no family members to call her own, Kaelyn is just trying to survive on her own. Until one day, she's not alone...

At school, after getting an elbow to the lip from her bully, Kaelyn retreats to her hideaway during lunchtime to recover. But finds she's not the only one needing a reprieve. There, sitting at her bench outside is Julian Ean: the 24-year-old calculus teacher with stormy gray eyes that seem to penetrate right into her heart.
Impossibly, Mr. Ean isn't blind to Kaelyn. While everyone ignores or uses her, he seems to be someone she can confide in. And he's intent on breaking down her walls. Seeing the girl behind the façade. And Kaelyn finds that Mr. Ean is facing a heartbreak of his own. So the two find common ground on the bench outside school.

Quickly, a sort of friendship starts between Mr. Ean and Kaelyn. He's the first person to make her smile, the first person to give her something to smile about. The attention he's giving her is something new to her, leaving her to want to get to know the teacher she passes in the halls and spends lunchtime with more & more. And soon, Mr. Ean turns into just Julian. And Kaelyn turns into more than just another student to Julian.

But when their friendship and flirting soon blossoms into something neither one of them expected nor acceptable to the outside world, will the two let their love grow? Or will Kaelyn run away out of fear, believing she's unwanted & unlovable like she always has?

What if he truly did have feelings for me? The entire concept feels foreign. A fabrication I made up in my heart to hide the lonely parts.

My Thoughts:
Two words: JULIAN. EAN.
(*insert squealing fangirl noises*)

My word I loved this book! Under The Peaches just slays, okay? All fangirling aside though, this story was deep. It was raw. And it was emotional. I was hooked from the beginning, reading it like a movie playing out in front of my eyes. I loved how right off the bat Kaelyn encounters Mr. Ean. The two just click. I think the author did an amazing job with the character's chemistry. Never forced, never awkward.
Julian (Mr. Ean) is just want Kaelyn is needing and Kaelyn is everything Julian has been missing. He just listens to her, wants to care for he like no one in her life has. I fell in LOVE with Mr. Ean right from the start. So caring, so gentle, so attentive. He became her everything. He made her feel loved & wanted. I swooned many times reading the things he said to Kaelyn. The angst was OFF. THE. CHARTS. My word Julian is like the champion of flirting. Man. Ahhh! He was all my book boyfriend dreams wrapped up in one beautifully gray-eyed, mussed brown-haired guy.
(Sidenote: I seriously want to marry Mr. Ean.)
Every hardship Kaelyn & Julian faced, they worked thorough. It was tough reading all the heartbreak & setbacks Kaelyn & Julian encountered . But I loved seeing Julian break down every one of Kaelyn's barriers and showing her that indeed she is worth love and is truly beautiful inside & out. It was really cool to see Kaelyn's character development. Going from a insecure, lonely, self-doubting teen to a confident & strong woman. Spot on gradual build up to their relationship. Like I said before, the angst was just the right amount.

I am safe.
I am flawless.
I am wanted.

Overall:
Under The Peaches...Five peach stars, guys. Five. Stars.
A beautiful romance. I cried. I laughed. I swooned (a lot!). I added Mr. Ean to my book boyfriend list for sure (*wink*)! A huge THANK YOU to the author, for giving me the opportunity to read this book! When I read the blurb about Under The Peaches, I was like: YESSSSSS. Must. Read. And yep, I loved it. All the feels!
For all my New Adult lovelies, Under The Peaches is a story I'm pretty darn sure you'll enjoy!
Under The Peaches is the first book in the Teaching Love series and I am so excited for the next one!!!!!

Recommended for readers 18+.

(P.S. Just had to mention for the millionth time: I love Julian Ean.)

!*!*!*!* SPOILERS (probably) *!*!*!*!
Sooooo....I'm just going to be ranting a lot during this review and I may or may not give some things away because me in rage mode has no filter, ok? Proceed at your own risk!

So this story starts off with a prologue with a woman taking a little girl to "give" her away. No explanation then. No explanation later.

We later even find out that this wasn't even the beginning of her being "given" away because her birth parents (always parents, as in plural even though she doesn't know the situation at all) gave her away too by putting her up for adoption. This is the first time in this book that I find myself looking and feeling a little like this

I'm not ashamed to admit that I'm probably not the most knowledgeable person when it comes to this topic, but I didn't think you could just kinda pass children off like this. Supposedly she's GIVEN to different people. Like the home she's in now, is because the woman before won a lawsuit and didn't need the government check anymore so this woman gave Kaelyn (our heroine) to her brother so he could get the monthly check....

So the story then opens to senior student, Kaelyn, coming out of a side door on her lunch break to her secret hiding area at school. And she's shocked to see that someone else is there too. Enter our HERO, Julian, or for a very brief period of this tale-- Mr. Ean, one of the school's calculus teachers. He's never met her and she's never talked to him but he can see she's physically hurt and she can see that he seems rather upset himself. After prodding, Kaelyn confesses to him that this girl, Nessa, jumped her and that she's been bullying and hurting her since sophomore year. They chat a bit and he convinces her to let him patch her up in his classroom.... this teacher literally puts gel on her lip... with his bear finger...

Need I remind you that they just met?!? But the author is already alluding to seductive, finger-lingers on bottom lips...

Then much to her and his surprise, him and his girlfriend just so happen to go out to dinner that night to the restaurant where Kaelyn works!

And then Mr. Ean's girlfriend is a major bitch, implying that there's something between them and they leave, but he does leave her a huge tip as an apology.
The next day when she goes to her secret spot for lunch again, there's Mr. Ean! Naturally he tells her that him and his girlfriend broke up which leads to them discussing their problems. He wants to know the reason why Nessa doesn't like her so much. Kaelyn confesses that she went to prom with Nessa's boyfriend, Brady, their sophomore year and Nessa thinks she still likes him. And as any professional, male teacher would respond to a female student he JUST met the day before, he responds,
“I need another reason.”
“That’s the only one I have.”
“There’s something you’re not telling me.” He leans over to catch my gaze. “Did you sleep with him?” he asks softly. I nod. He sits back, expression tightening slightly.”

And it only keeps escalating.
“All I did was ask you to come hang out at my place. I didn’t ask you out, or to sleep with me. It wasn’t that big of a deal.” He sits back, staring out his window. “You should have seen your face when I suggested it.”
“You’re a teacher,” I remind him unnecessarily. “Of course the idea freaked me out.”
“Why? You’re eighteen. It’s not against the law for us to hang out. It’s against the rules, but it isn’t against the law.”

This grown ass 24-year old man didn’t try to resist the attraction to his 18-year old student at all. She was trying to stay more grounded in the situation than him and THAT is never a good approach to this kind of relationship. The younger MC is supposed to be ignorant of the potential for disaster, while the older party is supposed to be the voice of reason. And they TRY to resist falling for each other, but despite all their best effort, they can't help it. Now, I'm not such a stickler for the rules and what is and is not deemed appropriate in fiction. It's fake. But the way things are written does affect the reader in how it FEELS to read it. And there's just certain approaches to a student/teacher trope that feels flat out weird to read, you know what I mean?
So at this point

From here, more bad things happen. Nessa ends up getting suspended and the very FIRST day she's gone, what does Kaelyn do? She agrees to take a ride down the road with Nessa's boyfriend, Brady, on their lunch break and lets him bang her in the bed of his truck "under the [damn] peaches"! She lost her virginity to the asshole the night they went to prom TWO frickin' years ago and she's been completely obsessed with him ever since, so Nessa's claims and hate aren't exactly unfounded. Then Kaelyn is so upset that Brady just "used her body" rather than make sweet, slow "love" to her!

And if you too are thinking, "I know the author didn't NAME the frickin' title of the book after her banging some other guy under some peach trees?!?"

Because,

Then her foster dad (for all intents & purposes) tries to rape her and he would have succeeded if his wife didn't realize what was happening and storms in the bathroom with a shotgun to stop him. The police arrest him, but they also arrest his wife too because she has warrants. Julian comes to get her because she doesn't have anyone else to call, which is great that he was there for her, but then they decide to move in together... This is all literally within DAYS of them FIRST talking to one another. Also the very next day after she had slept with Brady...under the peaches...who has a girlfriend...and now the whole school knows because they were in no way inconspicuous about it. But it's ok! Because her and Julian/Mr. Ean have said they're just going to be "friends" but all signs (and peaches) point to otherwise. I mean he had already slipped and called her BABY when he was trying to get to her after what happened with the foster dad.
Anyway!
They decide to go get pizza and she's freaking out because there are kids that go to her school (his place of employment) outside the restaurant who will see them together. AND THEY DO. But apparently she's not freaked out enough to prevent her from doing this little cringe fest of teasing Julian/Mr. Ean.
“I’d undo your belt slowly while you watch. I’d pull it through your belt loops and set it aside for later. Then I’d undo your zipper. You’re watching me, aren’t you, Julian?”

So I'm really getting carried away with this review and if I don't stop we'll all be here forever, but there was just so much that bothered the ever loving shit out of me with this book. I kept reading it just to see what the hell else the author would throw in there thinking it was the least bit acceptable.

You get it, though. This book was a total shit show.

They went back and forth for pages On END claiming various reasons of why they couldn't have sex, but made out and dry humped like they were taking on an erotic marathon. It literally became nauseating and I started skipping through it.

What further pissed me off is that the MMC was written completely unstable. His mood swings were giving me whiplash. He'd start yelling in a rage and he was ALWAYS jealous. He took the phone from her and quit her job for her even though she wanted to work. For a minute I was thinking there was going to be a twist in the story and he wasn't going to be endgame. But nope. At 94% when he was still having outrages
“Why are you making me do this now?”
“Because!” he roars, making my flinch. “We’re not going on a trip. This isn’t the beach. We’re starting our lives together. I need to know you’re ready for that, that you’re done running.”

I realized that this author wrote him this way because she literally believed it was completely normal and meant that he cared...
“Your parents are down the hall,” I remind him needlessly.
“You can scream into my chest,” he offers. “I’m going to make you scream, Kael. Loud.” Shit. I back away from him and he follows, stalking his prey.
“How about we wait?”
“You undress, or I can undress you. Either way, you’re going to end up naked with my cock deep inside of you. I need to be inside of you right now, baby.”

And she intended for us to swoon over this neurotic, control freak of a red flag man.

Don't get me started on the typo's.
And the wrong use of to vs. too.
There was also an atrocious amount of mistakes as to how the legal process was portrayed within the justice system. Which I get it, not everyone knows the ins and outs of it. But if you don't have access to thoroughly research it properly or you don't possess an accurate understanding of it yourself that you absolutely know for a fact is correct (& obviously not JUST what you see in media and perceive it to be) then you DO NOT write about it. PERIOD.

This book felt juvenile in a way where it seemed like someone was trying to write about how they imagined life experiences would be without having had any life experiences themselves. Characters were cringey, they did and said things that no sane person in their situation would ever do or say in real life, and feelings of the characters did not develop naturally, so everything felt over the top and out of place. It was just a mess. So no, I do not recommend ESPECIALLY because it is NOT on KU and I paid for this BS! Don't waste your money like I did. Ok.

But only after I leave you with this lovely, little charming tidbit the author called an ending....
"His mouth falls open. “You’re not kidding, are you? Please don’t be kidding.” “I’ve never been more positive of anything in my entire life than you. I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you marry me, Mr. Ean?” I smile through my tears.

Initial Reaction After Book:
I finished this book… but the more I read, the more I was pissed off. 😒
Rage review to come. 🤨

3.5 I fell for his shit because I wanted to fall stars

So Under the Peaches stared off strong for me. I really enjoyed the way this taboo teacher student romance started out! It was unexpected, and honestly made the relationship feel less taboo and more like inevitability. It felt like these two people were MEANT to find each other because they needed each other at the same time. I liked that this story covered bullying and that the heroine wasn't really perfect, and she made bad decisions at times. I love flawed characters especially when they grow.

Unfortunately at some point the characters got a little stagnant for me. Their relationship reaches a plateau that it needs to grow from, but it never really does. Their relationship actually comes off unhealthy at some points, and I thought maybe that's the route the author was going, but once I reached the end I realized that wasn't the case.

Shana Vanterpool is an amazing author. Her work makes you think, it makes you see a love story from an angsty and difficult POV. Some lines in this story even feel poetic and they actually really stuck with me. This is a good story, and will be a hit with anyone who loves angsty angsty relationships. For me, it was an ok read with characters I have a love hate relationship with.

I'm interested in the next book. I wonder if it will be about the same couple or if she will pick someone unexpected. Maybe Brady will get someone he's meant to be with under the peaches? That'd be an interesting story!

2 STARS

The first 40%-45% of Under the Peaches were actually quite good. They were fast-paced, intruguing and literally had me flipping through the book as fast as I could. However, at around 45% or so, it went completely downhill from there.

The story was waaaaaaay too long for the actual substance it had to offer (a 360-something pages book that really should've been around 150 pages or so), it dragged on and on for far too long without anything really happening.

There was A LOT of back and forth as well as insecurity/jealousy between the characters and it ended up becoming rather annoying.

I like my males Alpha, but Mr. Ean is not the a good kind of alpha (meaning the sexy kind -- the kind you'd just like to say "Yes daddy" to).

If anything, I don't think Kaelyn should even be with him, she actually deserved a lot better than what she got. And the best thing about having alpha males in books (other than the panty melting moments, obviously) is that it often means the female protagonist will most likely push back against the alphaness. It adds excitement to the overall story. Here, Kaelyn didn't push back at all, she simply accepted Jullian's orders because she was too afraid of losing him. Which, if you ask me, is VERY unhealthy because she was dependant on him for everything.

Basically, from the beginning of the book till the end, I don't feel like the characters grew in any way and I don't feel like the storyline actually progressed and flowed very well at all.

Overall, I'd say this was a rather disappointing read...

I love a good teacher/student romance but this was something else. It was an emotional and touching story of two people who needed each other.

As a reader I empathized with Kaelyn. I hurt for her. I feel like many people can relate to Kaelyn. We all have moments in our lives of uncertainty and self-doubt. We all experience hardships and it's wonderful to see characters overcome these hardships. I loved reading about Kaelyn and Julian, and loved how they were there for one another, both physically and mentally. This was a sexy and beautiful taboo romance. Loved it!

When a forbidden student/teacher romance breaks my heart in the most beautiful way...sigh!!! I couldn't put this book down to save my life!!!

Kaelyn Jeffries has had a difficult 18 yrs of life..given up for adoption from birth..bounced around to different foster homes..Bad foster parents and on top of all that she being bullied. She keeps to herself and is always alone so when she goes to her favorite spot in the school to hide out she's a little annoyed that someone is there.

Julian Ean is gorgeous..young and a math teacher who is also struggling with his own issues but as soon as he sees kaelyn all he wants to do is help her in any way he can. Their relationship starts out innocent but when she has to leave her home because her foster dad tries to rape her she moves in with Julian. They both know that it's wrong but for the first time someone is there for her so she goes with him. They don't mean to fall in love but they do anyway..he refuses to let her go even though he risks losing everything.

This book was a little difficult to read at times..the extent of bullying this poor girl goes through is rough. All the BS she puts up with from people is rough but the relationship between her and Julian is so beautiful because all he wants to do is love her..make her see that no matter her circumstances she worthy of love, his love!! To me Julian Ean has a bit of a savior complex but at times he's not as understanding as I would want him to be. You can't make someone feel worthy of something if they were made to feel worthless their whole life just because you want them to.

As always true love rises above all the shit they are going through and they are given a chance to leave all of it behind and start over. It's difficult for both of them but they know one thing..they know is that they love each other more than anything and will go through anything to be together

It's been a while since I've read a Student/Teacher romance, and Under the Peaches made me miss these type of reads. This one was a winner for me.
It was sweet, sexy and heartbreaking.

Eighteen year old Kaelyn has lived her whole life feeling like she is unloved and unwanted. Her own parents didn't want her and she has been passed around different foster homes since she was old enough to remember. Now that she is past the age where her foster parents can collect a cheque for her she now has to balance studying for her last year in high school, so she can achieve her dream of getting out of their home, and working nights at a local restaurant to pay her way.

While lots of teenagers think life is tough for them, I bet that if they had to walk a mile in Kaelyn's shoes that would gratefully give them back to her. Her foster father has noticed that she is no longer a child but an attractive young woman, which has turned him into an even creepier man. She doesn't feel safe in her home anymore and the she also has the added stress of being bullied at school by some nasty girls who make each day hellish for her.

This is why she plans on sitting outside in a quiet courtyard she once discovered, with a split lip, trying to find some peace in the middle of her school day. What she was not planning on was sharing it with another person. And a teacher no less. Great.

Julian Ean is a calculus teacher at Kaelyn's school and one that a lot of the female students seem to lust over. He is only 24 years old so relatively young, compared the rest of the teachers at school. He too was looking for a quiet place to think. He moved across the country to live in his girlfriends home town but now feels he made a mistake uplifting his life for a woman who seems to not be the person he first met. It looks like things are pretty much over between them.

Julian is shocked to see this young student, who has obviously just been assaulted. All he wants to do is help her but he soon realises that 'helping' her may just cause her more problems at home when she reveals a little bit about her home life. Kaelyn is only 18 but she already has experienced so much in her young life and has an 'old' head on her shoulders.

Julian and Kaelyn strike up an unlikely friendship, he looks out for her at school, in an effort to make sure she is not bullied and she enjoys the feeling of being safe around a man & trusting someone with her problems. This is a new experience for Kaelyn and she finds it difficult to accept help & compliments from Julian. She is no one really so why does he even bother with her?

"I watch his mouth. I want to taste his words. Savor their sweetness, their emotion. No one’s ever spoken to me like I was worth something. Julian does it all the time."

Julian is just drawn to her and he feels this fierce need to protect Kaelyn, keep her safe from anything else bad ever happening to her. She has low self esteem and he is determined to make her see just how important and special she is.

However, there is also a very intense attraction brewing between these two and yes, teacher/student relationships are hugely forbidden but this is a really unique situation. Julian knows that there are boundaries that he needs to keep in place for both of them but the walls seem to be slowly crumbling. And Kaelyn, for the first time in her life she has someone who believes in her and makes her feel like she is someone. She has very little experience with guys but what she is feeling for Julian can't be wrong if it all feels so right can it?

Well I completely gobbled this story up! I love a good forbidden romance story because I am in a constant state of freaking out that they will get caught which just adds to the whole thrill factor. This book definitely delivered all of that for me!

Shana never fails to disappoint with the beautiful words and incredible story telling. She's taken these characters and woven their path so beautifully, I found myself rooting for them all the way.

Kaelyn's journey has been and is difficult, and a lot of what she faces is relatable, every girl who's been in high school would have gone through one or the other, or possibly all that she has, which makes her a 'friend'. You get lost in her mind when you're reading her pov, as if you're right there beside her. The emotion the Shana writes pours off the pages and you're left turning the page, just to know what happens.

Julian Ean, this man is everything and more. Yes, he's a teacher, but what he does for Kaelyn is something incredible. These two characters walk a path that's both difficult, but offer support to each other, and I loved seeing how their relationship grew from a random meeting on the steps to friendship, to something else entirely.

This is book one in the series, and I can't wait to see what Shana has coming up next in this series.

I had major love hate vibes with UTP. My heart ached for Kaelyn and her self love struggle. And Julian ...gosh was he sexy but the 2 together ? I don't know how I felt them as a couple. It wasn't the taboo student/teacher storyline that I had an issue with. I love taboo. I think for me ..they just felt unhealthy. I don't know. I am quite fond of this author and her writing but I just didn't make a connection with this particular book.

I'm probably totally reading this wrong here peeps but did the H in this seem a little teenage girl angsty?

Every time the h did something he didn't agree with he had a strop and sulked until she changed her mind!

It was all a bit fast and resembled a rebound more than something that would last forever!

I'm assuming there will be more to these two which will unfortunately just be giving them drama for drama's sake!

I'm not 100% if I'll continue to follow this series, I guess if it's on Kindle Unlimited I might give it a look.

Utterly consuming and soul changing

I went into this book blind and I absolutely loved it. My heart has never hurt so good before. This is a beautifully sad and wonderfully written story about two people, who feel unworthy and have insecurities that run deep. They meet, they crash and they love so hard, my heart ached with every word. It's an amazing book that gave me so many feels, I couldn't breathe. Absolutely amazing book. I can't wait to see what happens next!

2 1/2 stars for Under The Peaches

description

I really wanted to like this book. Forbidden taboo romances are my thang. The most hardcore I will go is step-siblings NOT by blood but I always fancy a good teacher student romance. The synopsis was intriguing enough, it checked all the right boxes and so I dove right in. For the first 30% it wasn't that bad, it really wasn't. It was all down hill after that though. Unfortunately

The main problem I had with Under The Peaches was the numerous inconsistencies and oversights. Things never added up and the story line was sadly very mediocre. What really drove me bonkers was Kaelyn, our books "heroine."

description

She was all over the damn place and it irked the living hell out of me. She grew up adopted and not wanted. She lived her life not knowing love or ever feeling worthy. I sympathized with her on those fronts, but oh my god the constant woe is me crap and back and fourth she did was beyond rational.
The only saving grace to this whole book was Julian. He's the reason for the stars I gave. Epitome of what a perfect boyfriend and partner should be and a damn saint for putting up with Kaelyn's tiresome ass.

There were a lot of minor tidbits that did bother me about this book and kept yanking me from ever fully submersing myself in this story. They are as follows:

Kaelyn She was a huge issue for me throughout this whole book. I cut her a lot of slack for what she went through but there comes a time when enough is enough. She wanted Julian. She didn't think she was good enough for Julian. She wanted to get beat up and wither away. She didn't want to get beat up and hide anymore. She thought she was worthless. She then thought maybe "I'm not so worthless." She was afraid. I will admit times she shocked me with what she said but then there were a lot of times she would ruin it with her immaturity. She tolerated so much bullying and for virtually NOTHING. A stupid high school crush. She even justified why she deserved the life she lived and the abuse she takes. Let me not mention all she put poor Julian through. I can go on and on. Just enough with it all. A-friggin-Nuff

description

The bullying I cannot believe for one second Kaelyn endured 2 1/2 years of bullying that resulted in black eyes, busted lips, ect yet NO teacher nor the staff ever did anything about it? That is highly unlikely and not believable in the slightest.

Nessa, The "Mean Girl" Throughout this book this twit constantly beats the crap out of the heroine. Part of it has to due with a history between her boyfriend Brady and the heroine, but there has to me more. It's even hinted towards the end of this book that being with Brady is not the only reason why Nessa hates Kaelyn. So what are the other reasons? It is never elaborated on any further. Jealousy? It honestly just felt like the author had to add the typical high school mean girls with a BS explanation as to why the MC was getting tormented. new material PLEASE

Oversights Here a just a select few that completely broke immersion for me. They might be small, but they add up.

- Kaelyn is taking painkillers yet she consumes alcohol one night and a lot of it. Julian also lets this happen. That sounds like a toxic mix.

- Outside the courthouse Nessa and Kaelyn get into a very heated scuffle. There is not one cop or security guard stationed outside the courthouse. Kaelyn beats on Nessa's face and everyone just stands around like blubbering idiots until the only sensible one, Julian, breaks it up. Only then does a cop come outside and ask if everything is alright. Also, the judge does not question why Nessa's face is now all battered and bruised.

- Julian's parent's. When Julian takes Kaelyn home to meet his parents they welcome her with open arms. They find out shes just 18, does not have any structure nor life plans for herself, no direction, and to top it off Julian is fresh out of a relationship with his ex yet his parents both welcome her without hesitation. I don't care how much my son loves somebody, it will take more then an hour to woo me like that. It just was another facet of this story that was too unbelievable.

-Kaelyn and Julian's relationship. It really got to be almost too much at times. A bit unhealthy.

and lastly...

- The Ending. I'm not sure if there will be a second book coming out, if so then I take back my dislike for that ending but if not my view stands solid. It SUCKED. Give us an epilogue PLEASE. I want to know what happens 5 years from when it ended. I did invest my time into this book and would have liked to know what events have transpired since. It was another aspect of this book that left a sour taste in my mouth.

All in all I wanted to love this book but the story line was borderline average, I could not connect with the heroine nor understand her in the slightest and the inconsistencies all just got to be too much. Thank goodness for Julian. In my opinion, he was truly the best part about this book.

"Don’t be afraid to be happy, Kael. Don’t let your fears get in the way of us."

Oh My Julian. I love him. He's sweet, possessive and hot. He's a perfect boyfriend. He never give up, so persistent to show how much he loves someone. He always trying to do everything and trying to figure all out and he won't let his love worrying about everything. He's the man who's always there for you. Yup I love this man. Although I wanted to slap him for those things with Deborah and Brady, I understand him, but he's acting like a teenager, but he redeemed those bad things with a lot of sweetness and hotness. So yeah I still love him.
As for Kaelyn. This girl got me crying. She's been through a lot since young age. Her fears and doubts rule her life. I can feel her struggles and pains. For all her life she feels unwanted. She's just a girl who wanted to be wanted.

This book definitely my fav from Shana Vanterpool.
This book makes me feeling so much, so packed with emotions, sometimes I just wanted to yell to those characters and other times I just wanted to hug them.
This forbidden love between teacher and student is so touching, so full of love and struggles. And that bullying is making me cringe, the feels are so real.

If you love teacher student romance packed with emotions. You have to try this one.

4.5 "Skittles" Stars

"That was the first time I learned I was unwanted."

18 year old Kaelyn has never known love. Since her biological parents put her up for adoption and then being bounced from different foster homes, she has never had stability. She feels unworthy and unwanted. My heart hurt for Kaelyn, I wanted to hug her and tell her that she was strong and she was wanted and she IS important no matter how much she'd deny it. Because dammit, she deserves all the beautiful things in life.

Mr. Ean (Julian), I don't even know where to begin with him. Since the moment they met all he wants is to protect Kaelyn. The way he cared for Kaelyn was beautiful. He wanted to prove to her that she's worthy and no matter what, he will always be there for her. He was her savior in so many ways. The way he loves her is soul-clutching.

"I’ve never met anyone more deserving of love than you."

Under The Peaches is so much more than the forbidden student/teacher romance. It's apparent from their first meeting that Kaelyn and Julian are meant for each other. These two will make you want to punch a few walls, but they'll also make you laugh and smile. You can't help but root for them.

This was my first Shana Vanterpool book, and boy was it good. Kaelyn and Julian took me on such an emotional ride. By the time I stepped off, I didn't know what to do with myself. My heart hurt, my eyes were puffy and my head was achy, I was a mess. This book hurt in the most beautiful way. And you know what? I'd go on the ride again and again and again knowing what I was in-for because it was exhilarating.

I enjoyed reading this taboo romance. Kaelyn's character was relatable. I think we all at one point in our lives felt insecure about ourselves just like Kaelyn does. I loved witnessing Kaelyn's journey on finding her own self worth. It was a great story.

I was waiting for this to release since I read the description and one clicked (pre-order) a few weeks ago. Why because I love age gap books. I am always looking around for books that have this genre. but I am kind of picky of how much the age gap is between the leads. One or two years for me is just normal. A guy who is thirty with a girl who is less than 20 is just gross. For me is more college guy with high school girl (junior or senior).
One of the things I like about this book was the age gap between them. She is 18 he is 24, not too scandalize but what made it their relationship scandalize was he was her teacher.

Sadly the age gap was the only thing I like about this book. The MC talked about his ex so many times during the book I really think he wasn't over her even do he said so. He was butthurt when she went over with her new boyfriend to pick up her things from his apartment and tried using his relationship with the FC to make the ex Jealous. He was so pushy, and controlling. I understand that in some way he was trying to do everything in his power to protect her. But I think it was more attraction, lust what he felt for her than love. I think he felt sorry for her more than anything. He just didn't give me the vibe, the feeling he was really in love with her. I like Brady more than Julian. And he (Brady) had his douchebag moments hahaha.

Kaelyn Hmm Kaelyn, for me she just felt the need to be loved, would of have been Brady or Julian she wouldn't have cared. If Brady had left Nessa for her, she wouldn't of turn to look at Julian. In this situation I think Girsl like Kaelyn fell in love with this older guys because they need to feel protected. She said it like a thousand time during the book, I feel protected and special when I with you. I don't want to lose you because I feel protected. Feeling protected and being in love are different things, but when you have both is such an amazing feeling. She always felt something was missing, that something was wrong between them. And I mean she felt that way thru all the book. When she finally says I love you I didn't believe it.

This two didn't convince me they were truly in love.

This book sucked me into it right from the start! I mean Kaelyn has been a difficult child because of bouncing from one bad foster home to another. She has always experienced the feeling of being unwanted. And then we have Ean. The sexilicious teacher who just wanted to show Kaelyn that not everyone is the same. But here's the twist. He is the Teacher!!! But he is an incredible person.
All in all I thoroughly enjoyed the book and I look forward to see what happens next. I would whole heartily recommend this book to everyone!

* 5 juicy peachy stars *

This book has easily been my favorite for this year. Shana has a way of bringing out the tears from me but also putting smiles and feeling happy for the characters.

This story was about a girl's journey through survival, learning how to love herself, and most of all being able to accept help and love.

Kaelyn Jefferies broke my heart many times. Everything that she went through made me mad that she had to. Every emotion that she felt I felt. I felt her self-doubt, her unworthiness, and her anger at the world. I was relieved that she was able to find Julian. Julian who taught her that she is worthy. That she beautiful. That she deserves happiness. Julian is the definition of book boyfriend. He was willing to risk it all to save the girl with troubling blue eyes. Two troubling souls were able to find comfort in each other and find what they were missing. Julian Ean was able to see that. He wanted to save her and protect from all the evil in her life and I fell in love with him as well. The sex scenes were sweet and erotic and perfect. I loved these characters so much and was happy to know they were getting their happiness. I hope to read more about their story in the future.

I applaud you Shana for this amazing book. And I hope you continue their story because I need more Julian.

I absolutely loved this book and could not put it down! This was my first book by Shana and she did not disappoint. This story is very intense and has your emotions all over the place, and the worse part is that I loved every second of it! This is more than just a smutty romance and is in fact very intense, the story between Julian and Kaelyn is an age old one but told in a whole new way, putting a fresh spin on it. I look forward to more in this series.

*** 5 Well Deserving Stars ***

This Book, this book!! Is there anything Shana Vanterpool can't write?? Every book i've read of hers has left me with so many emotional feelings. Under The Peaches is a heartbreakingly beautiful read about a girl's journey through survival, learning how to love herself, and most of all being able to accept help and love.

The life that Kaelyn has endured so far could be soul destroying but she doesn't let it totally consume and destroy her. She may not have realised it but she's a fighter, to carry on day in day out shows spirit she just need that someone to show her what she's been doing and to support her in fighting harder.

 photo 1487894642586_zpsverfhetb.jpg

Mr Ean, Julian was just that person and what a person he was!! Julian even though he was going through his own problems showed her that she was worthy, beautiful, amazing and flawless and that she deserved happiness.

"I’ve never met anyone more deserving of love than you."

If you're thinking this is a taboo read because you read teacher student think again not at any point in this read did i get the feeling of this being a taboo read yes he is a Young teacher and yes she is an 18 year old student but no laws are broken and no lines are crossed in that sense. It's just it would be frowned upon ethically. For me it's just a story of two young people trying to find their way in the world and it was a beautiful sweet story.

"We kiss until we can't kiss anymore, until our lips can't move. Until we've given the other everything we have. Until everything he wants is everything i am."

This is the first book in the Teaching Love series and i can't wait to see what comes next.

I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book

Kaelyn flees to her hiding spot to be alone every break time to avoid the bullies at her school, and avoid getting beaten up. When she gets to her hiding place her safe place, she finds someone else hiding too.

Julian Ean is the twenty four year old calculus teacher who is hiding away from his own issues. So imagine his surprise when Kaelyn shows up in his hiding place with a busted lip. He tries to find out what happened but Kaelyn is not use to anyone caring about what happens to her. So why is this teacher caring about what happens to her.

This relationship begins very innocently. Julian is only trying to help a student in need but the more time they spend together the more they can't seem to hide from their feelings for each other.
Two people going through difficult times seeking support and comfort from one another.

I enjoyed this story and didn't know how I should feel about this relationship, but the fact that Julian only wanted to take care of Kaelyn make sure she was protected cared for and loved convinced me that everyone has insecurities and everyone needs someone to love them and take care of them and just be there when nobody else will be there for you.

A story that will make you feel everything that the characters are going through. Definitely a story for all you student/teacher romance readers.
