Years ago, drowning her sorrows in a giant bowl of chips and guacamole, Kristan shared yet another story of falling down on the job (no no – that’s not a figure of speech) with her college roommate, Jen, who couldn’t believe the absurd luck of this person sitting across from her.
"I hope you’re writing all this down. You should write a book about all this stuff,͟ Jen announced.
In this collection of true tales (at least 87% of which have been confirmed to be true), you’ll meet Kristan’s quirky parents, you’ll get a glimpse into the life of a person potentially suffering borderline personality disorder(s), and you’ll even get a peek right in the birthing room for the delivery of her first-born child.
In You Should Write A Book!, Kristan shares her missteps in life with the same honest and hilarious vulnerability she uses in her popular* blog, Bring Mommy A Martini.
*This is the only lie in the book**. Her blog is only marginally popular, being read regularly only by members of her neighborhood Facebook group, but even that is doubtful.
**This is a complete fabrication. This is only one in a whole handful of lies within the book. But aside from those four or five things, the rest is totally true.
If you’ve ever laughed through your tears, stumbled through life’s awkward moments, or wondered if you’re the only one whose “normal” is a bit offbeat, this collection of true(ish) tales is for you. Kristan hilariously chronicles parenting, family quirks, personal missteps, and everyday chaos with raw honesty and a wink of self-deprecating humor.
From laugh-out-loud disasters to heartfelt moments, You Should Write A Book! is proof that sometimes the best stories come from life’s most imperfect (and hilarious) detours. Fans of witty memoirs and comedy-infused storytelling will absolutely love this one.
I am so very glad that Kristen Braziel took her friend’s advice and wrote this book. I would also have been interested if she had conveyed her stories in drawn art form, after reading about her competition entries. Some of the tales in ‘You Should Write a Book: True Tales of an Unstable Life’ just about threw me into the path of an asthma attack with a hard dose of side-stitches from laughing so hard. The added touch of old photographs (accompanied by description) doubled the jovial factor. The style of humor used throughout is quite dry, and when the author tells you to stop reading and search Google for a lamp she once saw, of course you do it. Needless to say, my knowledge about lamps from the 1970’s is now greater than it was before I started reading. I could not get enough of Kristen Braziel’s hilarious true-life anecdotes. Laughter will forever be the greatest medicine, and this particular dose will keep those tears and snorts coming for a long time to come. I recommend this book to anybody who enjoys reading, watching or listening to funny tales of things that have gone wrong in the past, which eventually will lead you to ‘laugh about this someday.’
HILARIOUS! What great stories. I couldn't stop laughing and felt like the author was right here telling them to me. My favorite was when she said she had to break up with her boyfriend because he was engaged.
I tried to get into this book for almost a week. It's short, and should be a quick read. But, I'm so sorry, it's boring. I couldn't continue reading it.
