1st off, Dover get a new photographer. The shadows are huge!!! Then they are cut off as you try to get the biggest picture possible into the space. The rest of the layout is fine, and so are pictures without a white background. I know this is the second time I posted this about one of your books, and I will continue to do so until it’s fixed. I read a lot of craft books and this is an automatic turnoff. Next title please.

On to the book itself. The instructions are fine, and the projects look fun. That being said, I would never pay for this book based on the first graphic I see when I open it.

Make in a Day: Paper Flowers is aptly named because this book teaches just how to easily do that very thing. When I think of paper flowers I think of the traditional carnation looking tissue flowers that I have made since I was a child. Amanda Evanston Freund’s books gives directions for hyacinths, teacup roses, water lilies, dandelions and many more. What I especially liked about the book besides the variety of flowers shown is the clear directions and close-up photos of the process. It made learning this new skill to be a breeze for me. I feel that upper elementary age children would find this an appealing book, too. However, if you are an expert, I am not sure this would have much new in it for you but for a novice like me, it was perfect.

The publisher through Net Galley provided a copy.

Make In A Day Paper Flowers by Amanda Evanston Freund was a great example of this type of craft book. It was packed out with different flower designs so you would certainly get you moneys worth from this edition. It had easy to follow instructions alongside the list of supplies each flower would need and vibrant pictures of the finished product. This came along at a good time as it was half term and the kids were happy to join in and were super proud of the flowers they had made. If you are into this kind of craft, you cant go wrong with this book.

I would like to thank Dover Publications for providing me with a free electronic ARC of this book, via Netgalley, in exchange for an open and honest review.

This is most definitely the perfect book to do with your kids on those days they are stuck inside and bored! Creative, colourful and oh so easy to follow!

And I do love how it shows the reader how to make some flowers from paper your children can colour in, or even dye with food colouring, rather than you needing to have a whole rainbow of crepe paper stashed away.

Though I will add, if you were to but this book I seriously would have a stash of the needed papers, glues, straws and tape put aside just for the days it is brought out to entertain. And I really do think it will indeed entertain! I have a 7, 9 and 12 year old – all of which loved the ideas and instructions. Yes, the younger the child, the more you would have to help out – but don’t helicopter, let them do it.

The layout and formatting was clear and easy to follow. Each flower had a bit of an introduction and all in all the only thing I felt it lacked was a bit of a glossary at the back about the different equipment needed, and an index. But maybe that is just me being a tad pedantic. It is a child’s craft book after all.

Would I recommend this book to others?

Yes I would. ‘Make in a Day: Paper Flowers’ would be the perfect book to include in your craft library and one that you and your children - of varying ages – could turn to again and again when they want to be creative and crafty and make gifts, decorations or just while away a rainy day indoors.

Would I buy this book for myself?

I probably would, but would honestly have to leave the final say to my children, as they would be the ones using it the most. And I am pretty sure they would say yes.

In summary – a fantastic, simple little crafty book on how to make paper flowers. Easy to follow, well laid out, fun for the kids.

I received a digital copy of Make in a Day: Paper Flowers from NetGalley and the publisher, in exchange for my honest review.
I love crafts! So I may be biased :P… This book by Amanda Evanston Freund is awesome and easy to follow. I tried two of the paper flowers included in the book: the Hydrangeas and the Teacup Roses. Between the two of them, my favorite was the Hydrangeas. As I mentioned, the instructions were super easy to follow and I was really happy with the results. They were beautiful and I can’t wait to try them again (for a work activity coming up soon). I love that the book cover included the paper flowers together, so it gives you an idea on what you will learn to make. The photos included in the book, are simple and clear. There’s a photo for every step, so you can follow the instructions very well. At the end of the book, it gives you some dyeing tips and the materials you can use for the paper flowers. Oh, and of course, the materials for every flower are included before every step-by-step instruction. Highly recommended for those craft lovers like me!

It includes these flowers: Hyacinths, Dandelions, Hydrangeas, Snapdragons, Camellias, Teacup Roses, Water Lilies, Clematis, Dahlias, Chrysanthemums, Roses, Daffodils, Tulips, Poppies, and Peonies. There are also instructions on dyeing and drying coffee filters that are used in some of the patterns. This book is suitable for beginners on up. The flowers are lovely! The Make In a Day Paper Flowers book by Amanda Evanston Freund was a delight to read as her projects look pretty and doable. It's not often I get excited enough to immediately want to try a new craft, but after reading Make In a Day Paper Flowers I've already bought some of the items needed.

What I like most about her book is the ability to find normal items such as coffee filters, tissue paper, straws and pipe cleaners to create beautiful flowers.

Her book is beautifully illustrated with plenty of color photos.

Recommend.

I received an ARC through Netgalley, the review is my own opinion. My primary issue with this books is the photos (and since this was an ARC, they might be better in the final version).
I'm sure the author is talented, but the photos were so awful it was impossible to focus on the actual flowers and techniques. Full of massive shadows, and they looked like weird filters had been used, leaving the colours distorted and strange, which for me triggered headaches.

As such, I can't recommend this book, although better photos could change that.

This is a good, basic book for beginning papercrafters. The fifteen projects are easy to make and the materials required might already be available in your home. Step-by-step instructions, with full color photos, are included along with the techniques of dyeing, drying and using coffee filters in some of the designs.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher and NetGalley for my honest opinion.

This is just a brilliant idea. I loved that Amanda decided to write this book to share such beautiful flower ideas. I truly can't wait to start making my own flowers. This is a great way to decorate any room plus weddings or birthdays. Thanks so much for making this book and sharing information about each flower and step by step flowers in the making. I highly recommend especially for children.

Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to read a digital copy of this book in exchange for a review. All opinions are my own.

All the crafts in this book look easy to make, with detailed instructions. I received an ARC copy this book on the Kindle so all the pictures were black and white and very grainy. (Thus, making them hard to see.) The images in the printed book might be better.
