I grew up in England, graduated from Oxford University and was a journalist for ten years for The Daily Telegraph and The Times of London. I was The Telegraph's bureau chief in New York and Paris before going to Harvard Business School in 2004 to obtain my MBA. I now live in Connecticut with my wife and two sons."
Very interesting read with its stories, history, and universal truths about business, determination, and the will to succeed, and fail. Some of it is inspiring, some of it feels a bit of a slog, but overall it is a good read.
A lot of business and entrepreneurship books talk about strategy and tactics, contemporary processes, and market cycles. While these topics are not absent in this book, it focusses more on the underlying motivation and mindset of what it is to be an entrepreneur, describing all the contradictions, compromises, commitments, and possible compensations that come with it.
The book does a great job at priming your mindset for adversity and flexibility, in preparing your psyche for the struggle of going it alone, while also training your business brain to be alive to opportunities with the willingness to exploit them, through examples as well as describing underlying philosophies and motivations. Far from glorifying entrepreneurship, the book tries its best to ensure you are forewarned and forearmed should you choose the life of an entrepreneur, all in a short few pages.
"How to Think Like an Entrepreneur" is an engaging and insightful guide to adopting the mindset of successful entrepreneurs. With real-life examples and practical exercises, it inspires creativity, resilience, and visionary thinking. A must-read for anyone seeking to unleash their innovative potential and excel in both business and life.
Lovely melange between the quintessential aspects of entrepreneurship and its intersections with humanity, emotions, life itself. Leaves you pensive and badly wanting for more.
(review coming from a young one-time failed entrepreneur who is exploring going at it again, years later)
Very dissapointing. Abundant in uninspiring anecdotes from notoriously successful entrepreneurs (Steve Jobs, Elon Musk and such). Plenty of white pages, photos and words, but nothing of use in the real world. Skimmed through large parts. Not worth the paper it's printed on. The best thing about this book is its design. Nothing else is useful or interesting on any level. Pity. Don't recommend this.
This book was a quick and easy read with a number of anecdotes and stories of other entrepreneurs. The stories were interesting and it mentioned different types and the history of entrepreneurs. The additional readings that it suggested seemed pretty good. This book is by no means itself a "read this and you'll start the next google" type of book, but it does provide an interesting look at entrepreneurship.
Good book! I initially had challenges understanding the direction the author was heading in chapter one because of how the sentences were phrased and some of the words used. I was patient enough to get through various pages and discovered that the book touched a lot of lessons that are of benefit to young entrepreneurs.
It requires patient and careful reading to digest many of the salient points made.
I'm definitely going back to read through again, carefully this time.
Despite the title being kinda cheesy it lists a lot of varied case studies of how entrepreneurs 'do'. I liked the fact they were from diff ages, backgrounds and disciplines. A nice easy to read lil motivational book that's great for a toilet read 😂
I love the series and this was the 3rd book I finished reading in the series.
I was a bit disappointed because, it did not give me the same feeling the way I felt while reading " How to find fullfilling work " but again I guess maybe I didnt pay much attention and need to do a rereading to understand more of it.
I might update my review again after rereading it.
