From Once Upon a Rogue :
Emmeline Hughes has lived a privileged yet boring life of custom, groomed for the day when she will be wed to a member of the peerage. When her twin brother disappears, she takes it upon herself to look for him. Disguised as a member of the working class, she ventures to a place she often heard her brother Covent Garden. In that den of ill repute, Emmeline is awakened to desire. Soon, she becomes a lady at court by day, and a courtesan by night. It is during this time that she encounters David, a mysterious rogue who not only ignites her passion but steals her heart.
Emmeline’s double life must come to an end when she is to be presented to the Duke of Bouillon as a prospective bride. Can Emmeline give up her secret existence – and David – to become the prim and proper wife of a duke?
From Once Upon an Arranged Marriage :
Cora Ashton
She is still adjusting to the life her father's newfound wealth has brought her, and she can't seem to understand why people think it's so much better to have money. After all, with the turn of the 20th century coming quickly, Cora sees more freedom in being poor. She certainly had a less strained relationship with her mother before, and she hadn't been expected to parade around at a coming of age party or to marry a man she didn't love.
And she'd had Joseph.
Joseph Watts
He hates seeing Cora's unhappiness, but with such a low station in life, he can do nothing about it. Besides, his hands are full with his ailing sister and working every odd job he can find to support the two of them. While the news of Cora's engagement to Charlie Cantrell is difficult to hear, Joseph knows the wealthy young man will provide for her.
But when circumstances become overwhelming and Cora and Joseph find a way to steal a moment here and there to reminisce over their childhood together, the uproar it causes - both in social perception and the raging storm inside both of them that drives them to need each other - becomes overwhelming.
Each forced to make difficult decisions, will they be driven apart by their differences or together by their mutual need?
From Once Upon a Duke :
It is 1815 and Miss Patricia Vine has accepted life as a wallflower. She is six-and-twenty, and does not think she will ever marry. She looks around at the denizens of high society and cannot help but think they are all hypocrites. They laugh to each other’s faces, but shun those who have no money. And Patricia’s family is poor.
His Grace, Morland Dare, Duke of Yeoland, has recently returned from the war in France. The war has left him bitter. He, too, does not care for high society and its hypocrisies. But his business is intricately tied to the lords and ladies whom he invites to his balls. He cannot afford to offend them.
Then he meets Miss Patricia Vine, a cynical, realistic woman with kissable lips and a beautiful face. He discovers that they share many of the same opinions, and their mutual agreement turns to budding love. But they cannot marry, for Morland’s business would be ruined if he married a poor girl.
Morland and his business associate, Sebastian Hardy, come up with a plan. They will pretend to offer Mr. Vine a piece of the business, with the aim of making the Vines wealthy enough so that Morland and Patricia can marry. But there is one problem. Mr. Vine is a drunkard, and causes problems every step of the way.
Each book in this collection is a definite fun read. The women are different types in each book so there is not a repetition of character types. The heroes in the book are beautifully written. They are human as in the case of Graham Banbury in Once Upon A Lord. He is hard and suspicious and then he warms my heart.
In Once Upon a Duke, The Duke is not a happy man and is not comfortable with his position as a war hero. He doesn't want someone that just says what they expect he wants to hear. He wants honesty and when he finds her, he is willing to scheme and plan to win her. It is a great story.
Once Upon a Rake is a sweet story abut Dillon Matthews and Lyla Foster. They are the cutest two people, but there is a villain in this story that keeps it interesting. One of my favorites in the collection.
Each story is lovely in their own right. I really enjoyed this collection. Well done Julia Regan. It was a fun time reading these books.
Finally finally finished this. I'll be perfectly honest - most of these were terrible. The editing was nonexistent. I (obviously, with how long it took me to read) struggled with finishing it.
And the "bonus books"? I couldn't even make it through the first "SEALed in Love" because the author clearly doesn't actually know how the Navy SEALs work. This would be a DNF if it wasn't for the fact that I finished the actual books that were part of the series.
With all that being said - Once Upon a Lord made slogging through all the others worth it. This one made my heart ache and my eyes tear. If you can get this set for free or cheap, do it for this entry. I'm giving the whole thing three stars just because this particular story deserved five.
I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This series is a great collection of Victorian Romance. It had very original storylines with great characters. True romance at its best. Stories of UNSTOPPABLE LOVE and not settling for second best. Well written, strong women who know what they want and aren't afraid to go for it. Chivalrous men and their captivating women ! I LOVED THIS SERIES! Once Upon A Lord, with Ivy and Graham, was my personal favorite, but then again, there was Dillon in Once Upon A Rake and Joseph from Once Upon An Arranged Marriage........anyway, this series is a DEFINITE ONE-CLICK! YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED ! ! !
This is a must read. I love the Victorian era. This is very well written and that makes it good and hard to put down. Something to sit and read in your comfy chair or where ever that is. I recommend it. I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
