One of my favourite books is called Abby by Wolfram Hänel and illustrated by Alan Marks. It features a girl named Moria and her beloved best friend, Abby, a black dog with white patches. One day when Moria came home school, Abby was nowhere to be seen. She found a note on her table saying than her mother had gone to Rusty Daniel's home, a man who lives by himself on the outskirts of the village. Later on, her mother came home with her baby brother and Daniel, and in his arms was a sick looking Abby who was accidentally poisoned by him. Moria was very angry at Daniel, and, feeling absolutely devastated, worked hard to keep Abby alive. Refusing to give up home, Moria sat beside Abby the whole right nursing her and eventually fell asleep on her fur, even though her parents thought Abby would never recover.

This book was absolutely amazing and very touching. I first read it when I was aged eight, it's a simple chapter books with pictures containing sixty pages, yet I still love it to this day. Even though it's recommended to children aged six to nine, I think people of all ages should read it, especially if they love dogs.
