Kate Cambridge is an indie author writing cozy mysteries, sweet historical romance, and contemporary romance—all with a thread of faith, hope, and suspense intertwined. Her debut series, The Choice Brides Suffragette Series, has been a bestseller with three books yet to be released, as well as her cozy mystery series, A Hannah and Callum Cozy Mystery. She has participated in several multi-author collaborations, including Sweet Americana, The Burnt River Western Romance Series, and the latest a multi-author western romance series, The Lawkeepers. She is also an author in the Kindle World, First Street Church.

She has been an avid writer since middle school and has always loved living adventures vicariously through books; as a result, she pursued a degree in Liberal Studies because, well, nothing else quite fit. Before writing full-time, she ran her own boutique marketing agency, and prior to that wore several hats in the corporate world including: negotiating six and seven figure real estate deals, writing training programs, and project management for a major supermarket company.

Writing is her passion, but she also loves animals and hopes to open a shelter for abused and homeless dogs some day. Her greatest joy and blessing is her faith, being married to her favorite person on the planet, and being a mom; she also enjoys sailing, photography, music, kayaking, and spending time with friends and family at their home on Sebago Lake.

This book feels more like a prelude: everything is left in the air, with no choice but to get the next in the series to get some closure to the story.

It is the story of a spoilt, headstrong woman who is trying her best to find a cause to support. Elizabeth is smart, with the lifestyle of the daughter of a rich, indulgent father who expects his only daughter to take her place in society at the side of her husband. The problem is that she is very independent, with no interest in a husband to take care of her when she is doing a very good job of that herself. Her interests lie in attaining the same rights under the law that any man naturally has just by being born a man. This causes problems on more than one level, and when Elizabeth is taken to jail for trying to vote, her father steps in to settle issues before they turn ugly. A new bodyguard is his solution; Elizabeth is pretty sure that is not the right answer.....
I got this book in a mass giveaway. I am leaving my honest review for others.

Elizabeth is being lead away by the police pass the hecklers seeing her with handcuffs, for trying to cast a ballot. She is a suffragette woman, and a problem to her father. Her parents disapprove of the suffrage movement.
Her father was a banker, and her brother would follows and ensure their livelihood, but she as a woman could not be a banker. What she wanted was the right to chose. Her father hires a bodyguard and having ideas of how to help her friends, before everything they have worked for is lost. This is the beginning of the mail order bride series, it was delightful and interesting to read of someone who wants to change how things were for woman.

I enjoyed this story although I don't agree with everything that the suffragettes stood for. Elizabeth is a wealthy woman who has the protection and the backing of her father. When she has trouble at a voting site and gets hurt, her father hires a body guard for her - of course she isn't happy about it, but she doesn't really have a choice. Her friends don't have the freedoms that she has and she is concerned when the start talking about mail order bride services. She takes this situation into her hands and decides that she is going to start her own MOB service - of course her body guard has to come along.

I enjoyed this novella as a great introduction. It gave just enough information to make the reader interested in the series. The character development was quite good for a short read, and a real plot developed in the short read. Highly recommend to those that enjoy short reads.

A Plan goes West

The author has introduced the main character and clearly outlined the objective of all the key players. Although I dont normally enjoy books that end in cliffhangers, this book has encouraged me to want to know what happens next.

Great beginning of a wonderful series

This is a great book that is just as it's titled--Beginnings. It is a great beginning of what seems like a great series. I've read the next book (Elizabeth) and it was wonderful.

Interesting book

This book captivated my attention from page one. I read it in one sitting and am looking forward to book two. I can't imagine what it was like to be a suffragette, but am grateful to the women who took that path and won our freedom to vote.

Great Introduction

This is the first book of a mail order brides series. The bride agency promises to have some teeth to it. The bok does a great job of introducing the theme and the core characters. It was well-written and held my interest. I can hardly wait to read the next books in the series.
