Rate this book
When Ed's twin brother dies suddenly on the beach he finds comfort in brandy, this helps his struggle to cope.
He seeks solace at his dad's allotment where he befriends Alf Davies. When Alf moves away to live with his son and daughter-in-law he leaves Ed his plot to manage as his own for the remainder of it's lease.
Ed makes a success of running a fruit and vegetable business, but when the allotment is up for renewal, he is forced to move. Refusing his father's offer to work from home, he moves his business to Tilly Grey's garden, the girl who, despite his mother's dislike of the family, has captured his heart.
History repeats itself, as Tilly finds herself in the same predicament as her mother. Through fear of tongues wagging, Ed helps Tilly in the way he thinks best. His decision has life changing consequences, as Tilly is left fighting for her life.
Ed enters a dark lonely place, where old habits come back to haunt. He loses the business he built up from nothing, becoming isolated from the people he loves.
Can he find his way back?

This book was an emotional roller coaster from start to finish. The characters are really well developed and you really get drawn into their lives and stories. A very believable story that wrenches at your heart strings consistently
