What fresh garbage is this.

I don't mind gore in manga (movies are another story). I actually really enjoy class death games on the whole. Danganronpa is one of my favorite games (and I even enjoyed the DR3 anime). Danganronpa, by the way, isn't perfect. It has plenty of fanservice, but often I can ignore it because I think the female characters are well developed and interesting besides. (YMMV)

Tohyo Game was just garbage. It starts out with a super mysogynist premise: all the boys are voting for the most popular girls to reveal some explicit photos taken of them in the locker room. It's creepy and not really condemned in any serious way by the characters. The original votekeeper dies (spoiler but like it's a class death game so get over it) and is set up as this martyr figure-- he had the BEST of intentions, after all, isn't his pervy take on trying to create good memories for his (male) classmates just soooooooo endearing??? Gross. And then of course ~someone~ hacks the website to have the girls vote for the boys as well (without the pervy rewards). Or maybe it's supernatural interference. (It's probably not but this volume tries it's damnedest to keep that a possibility at the very forefront of the reader's mind by bringing it up every two pages.) also, I'm sorry, you're not ever going to convince me that the girls are just as guilty as the boys when only the girls are being exploited from the beginning.

Also the obvious and inexplicable foreshadowing of the main character's dream on the first day of class... just take all the mystery out of it why don't you?

This manga is super rushed, as well. Only three volumes and you've got to kill nearly 40 students? Let's kill off over half in the first volume to avoid giving them any character development!

Just... It's not worth it. Tohyo Game is mediocre at best and super gross and exploitative at every other moment.

Well this should have been way more fun than it was. A whole class is put into a popularity contest to see who the best girl (and guy) is! When the votes begin to happen then...death arises! Kids being killed off Final Destination style. One by one the votes flood in and kids keep dying, no one can stop it, and the main character(s) do try! However...as fun as this sounds...it isn't all that. WHY!? I will tell you!

What I liked: The art is pretty good. Not mindblowing but easy to tell characters apart. I also like the idea of this. It's a idea I had in mind similar with cell phone type game but this didn't push it far enough. Anyway the idea that something or someone is tracking them down and trying to murder you is very very cool but it's all about the style in which way to do it.

What I didn't like: The deaths are unoriginal. The fan service is a bit annoying. Like yeah, I love boobs. Boobs are life. But why show a girl walking around naked at home when it adds NOTHING to the plot. Like if she was to be killed that way, or shown something terrible, or attacked sure! But she just sitting washing her boobies and I'm like "Why?" Also the pacing is slow despite people dying you don't get attached. That's thanks to the mehish horror writing that you'd hope to expect more of now days with a lot of horror movies trying to get back to the roots. Meaning giving us a reason to care about characters. Lacking big time here.

Overall this was a disappointing title. I expected way more and was so let down. I know Japan can do better. Future Diary was perfect example of pushing the genre of horror and giving us an engaging story. This was anything but that. A big let down. A 1.5-2/5.

Edit setelah baca sampai vol.3(tamat)

Pertama-tama saya mau tepok tangan buat penulisnya yg berhasil bikin nuansa dark-dark kentel yg bikin hati dan pikiran saya nggak enak.

Untuk art, no problem. Bagusss ^ω^)

Lalu mengenai karakter tokoh-tokohnya yg masih murid SMA, kalau dibandingkan dengan karakter murid SMA di Indonesia, para tokoh di cerita ini kesannya jadi punya tingkah laku yg lebay. Bayangkan: awal tahun ajaran baru, ada 1 anak yg membuat program online voting siswa/i terpopuler. Rasanya lebay kan?? Pilpres yg sistem coblosan aja kalah.

WARNING: THIS SERIES IS RATED M FOR MATURE (18+)

It's the start of a new school year and everything is normal...until one boy decides it will be funny to host a popularity contest. The boys will vote for their favorite girl out of five randomly selected female classmates in a single elimination round. Whoever has the least votes is out. Sounds simple and innocent right? Yeah...that's until one turns up dead and the voting site takes on a mind of its own.

Bloody and graphic, full of suspense. A cross between Death Note and Another

This series has 3 volumes.

This was a bit hit and miss for me...on one hand, it's a horror manga (which are hard to come by), and it has a cool premise. It's sort of a Battle Royale/Final Destination style book with a caste system twist involving a popularity contest. It starts off as a fun way to rank who is most popular in the class, but quickly gets dark when the first girl to come in last place commits suicide. Initially, I was super intrigued, but as the story went on, there were some problems. For one, the main character barely reacted when his best friend died. What the hell? I expected more from that because he's meant to be the likable protagonist. Also, as the story went on, it got more and more convoluted and I was having trouble following who was who because we hardly got an introduction before they started dying. Maybe it will be explored more in book two? Also, I kind of knew who the Vote Keeper was right off the bat so there was really no mystery...and I'm sorry, but why throw in the nudity? It just seemed way to fan service-y to me. The artwork was ok, but I've seen much better as well...
Fortunately, after I knocked all the things I didn't like, there's still a lot here I did enjoy. The violence was cool and I like how they might be tying in a bit of a love story. Some of the reveals are cool as well like how 7 boys died because they didn't vote and how Wakaba's phone was switched and that's why she's alive. I'll stick with it to see what's going to happen, but overall, it was good, not great.

This is good!
The premise is interesting and the artwork is nice (though a bit ecchi.. perhaps because this is a shounen manga?). The storyline is kinda predictable, but still fun to follow.

First off this book is rated Mature which I believe is basically the highest like being rated R in a movie so if you can watch rated R movies then there should be no problem with you reading this book. If you are a minor you will have to get your parent's permission first though considering the book has some minor nudity, pany shots, and plenty of gruelling death so strap in and get ready for a story about a popularity game going horribly wrong.

Starting in full color two people are in the room. One, hand quivering as she wields an edged weapon, walks up to the other who is talking to her and asking for death. With the final blow and close up of the face of the blade wielder we return to classic black and white manga as Shuusuke Takayama wakes from his nightmare in the middle of class. The start of a new class year can always be stressful but thankfully for Shuusuke some of his friends are in the same class as him so things are not as bad as they can be. However his friend Kazuto Satou had a bright idea to put up a popularity contest on a website and sent everyone in the class access codes to their phones so they can all vote. However what started as a well meaning opportunity to get to know his classmates turns dangerous quickly as members of the class find out their classmates are dieing due to the survey that is updating daily without the help of of Kazuto. The hidden rules of the new deadly game are being figured out as the poor class members must worry about who next is going to be voted from this mortal coil.

Okay this book had a lot of freaky stuff going on and plenty of death scenes for those that love that kind of stuff but if I were to chose a favorite moment in the book it would have to be the tense moment when some of the students broke into the school to cast a vote on a phone that a teacher commandeered from one of the class 2-a students so she would not meet the fate of those who do not contribute to the vote. I for one am looking forward to the next book as the horror has only just begun.

eh, i lost interest. i think i've seen horror like this too many times, so i'm desensitized to it even more so if the characters aren't at least engaging. but, people who *really* like this genre are also probably the same kind of people who like the Judge/Doubt series

Commentaire en français au-dessous la version anglaise.
The summary explains the main idea of this first book in a three-book series, and it pulls no punches – the deaths start from the end of the first round, and the students must first be convinced that this game is not so ordinary as it seemed. Then – and what I really appreciated – is that some of them try to understand/learn the rules of the game, to end it, so it offers characterizations which are resemble real life much more than the majority of the horror films which I have seen, where everyone goes crazy and screams and makes stupid decisions.

And if the rules of the game change as they make new realizations about the game…?

I am curious to see if the dream Shûsuke had at the beginning of the book will come to pass (I bet: probably, except for the last few panels showing his death), and above all how it will come to be, and what the psychological cost for the students will be as one by one each of them dies… I can’t wait to read the next one!

Là on s'attache à personne.

Full Review: https://ntarienovrizal.blogspot.co.id...

Sesuai blurb-nya, aku nggak salah memilih komik.

Terlihat sederhana bukan? Ya, dan ternyata yg gugur malah gugur sebenarnya.

Jilid I ini cukup "berdarah" dan dibangun dg baik tingkat ketegangannya

i read this years ago & had been planning to continue it ever since but never did. today i thought to myself “i should read some manga” because they’re easy reads, and i thought i’d revisit this and maybe keep going from this volume (which is the only one i own) but bruh it is so bAd.

how did i enjoy this so much before?

i mean it’s a cool concept don’t get me wrong & i like the art style and character designs (even tho they’re a bit basic). but is so rushed and badly written & has a bunch of gross, unnecessary nudity.

idk man i just know i won’t be reading any more

This book is amazing! The story is very exciting to follow and the amount of horror and complexity is awesome!
It's a life survival game between the classmates and it has such a crazy tension!
It has well-organized rules and events that reminded me of Death Note but it still has it's own originality which makes it different.
I really love books with new ideas like this!

Tohyo Game is a Seinen (adult demographic) manga focusing on a highschool cursed by a mysterious game. Like Doubt, Vol. 1, Danganronpa -The Animation- Volume 1, or Future Diary, Volume 1, this group is forced to play a game of life or death, in this case a Survivor like popularity contest that determines death based on a vote and some other wrinkles you'll learn as you go. The book feels a lot like the story Another アナザー 1st period as well, as the death methods are all very different, and there's also the suspicious odd girl in class, in this case a girl that never shows up to school, but manages to vote for the game through her phone.

While there's a few gutwrenching moments, a lot of the characters don't get much in the way of characterisation, so you don't feel much impact when something bad happens to them.

The art of the comic is ok, most characters pretty distinguishable (though the main character's friend Ootsuki looks a bit too much like this other popular girl in class). Nothing too incredible scenery wise. There's a small section of nudity in the volume, which honestly felt unnecessary (it's rarely ever necessary in any manga, but it didn't really serve any tone setting purpose here). There is also graphic bloody content, moreso towards the end of the volume. This earns that explicit warning, though they save the shock for when you need it, not blood every other page or anything.

I will say, they've effectively set up at least 5 characters I think you'll be caring about whether now or in the future of the comic. The surprises have been good so far, but we'll see how it goes going forward. I do think volume 1 ended on a weird note, and there was an opportunity to really make people go crazy for V2 if they ended it at a "nooo" moment about 20 pages earlier. Hopefully V2 doesn't take too long to release.

I suggest getting this volume digitally for the price. The copy I got was only 3 dollars vs the in store 15 dollars.
