I'm not a big Deadpool fan.

I like the movies. I mostly like them because Ryan Reynolds is a funny dude. He easily made a character I normally have no interest in, amazing. It helped it was rated R, in the sense, you can show off the full line of jokes while also getting that crazy high-end action.

This is a huge Omnibus, going a little past 1300 pages, and it ranges from good, with a few moments of great for me. The biggest balance for the character is finding his humous side while also giving us some emotional beats. This series does tend to do that at points, even if it isn't perfect.

The start of this series relies heavily on humor. It's not bad but in comparison to the movies, it seems tame. A foul mouth deadpool is not here. Luckily the art saves it because the fight scenes are excellent, high energy, and bloody as hell. As the series goes on we get a much more human Wade, going into something horrible in his past, and now he has to deal with the mess he made.

On top of that I really did enjoy the ending humor. It was far better, and Duggan seemed to get the hang of the foul mouth Deadpool more.

But it does suffer from no major villains that are interesting. I also found too many characters too talkative without anything important to say or even funny. I drifted some pages because honestly got bored at spots.

But overall, even for a person who was NOT a fan of Deadpool I did enjoy my time reading this. Would I say it is mindblowingly awesome? No. But it was fun for what it was with some really great moments here and there.

A 3.5 out of 5.

Ну такой себе ран, на 2,5 звезды - что-то среднее между it was ok и liked it.

While I've loved the movies, and enjoyed Deadpool's appearances in other books like Uncanny Avengers and Uncanny X-Force, I've never really read any of his solo books. I decided to dive in, and pretty quickly was hooked. While the first arc is the jokefest I was expecting, it's really setting up where the run goes from there. Once "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly" hit, it got its hooks in me deep. It's an outstanding story and then it does alter the character through the rest of the run.

This omnibus profits from memorable sidekicks. the necromancer and the ghost of Benjamin Franklin. A cyborg S.H.I.E.L.D agent. Dracula's betrothed, all over the second half.

The situations they find themselves in are sometimes downright silly, with only Deadpool's inpertubable attitude towards the absurd. Luckily, these are far and few between, with groovy 70's flashbacks seperating the story arcs.

The Junge mysantrophy of The Good, the Bad and the Ugly begs to be made into a Ryan Reynolds sequel. Even he couldn't get the Dead Presidents right, as much as I enjoyed the White House Trivia Pursuit jokes.

It is impossible to succeed with a character like Deadpool with this sort of writing. And by this sort of writing, I mean bad writing. The kind of writing that makes your sphincter tighten, and not in a good way. The kind of writing that makes you envy the blind. The kind of writing that makes you wish you never bought a $150 omnibus because you liked the cover (and still do). That being said, I'm not sure Deadpool is the character for me. Maybe the monotonous, droning one liners, one of which will land every few issues goes a big way to explain this, but when a character doesn't take ANY situation he is in seriously, then I can't either. Everything is a joke here. Ironically, except for the writing, which is probably the least funny joke imaginable. No, wait, that's the secondary characters that infect this story. About halfway through, when they were finally done with one of the most bloated and boring storylines you could imagine, I thought we finally had a reprieve from the handful of terrible characters that the writers thought worthy of building the narrative around. Sadly, after a moderately interesting arc without them, they reared their terrible, terrible heads again, and promptly sucked out the modicum of wind the book added to its sails without them. Soon after this I gave up entirely and just flicked through the last few hundred pages. I tried to read all of this, I swear I did, but reading and issue or so every other day was killing me. I just couldn't summon the will from deep inside me to get through it.
The majority of the art here was very good, with the Mark Brooks covers collected throughout being particular highlights. The later art tempted me like a siren on the rocks calling to wayward, horny sailors. Enticing me, begging me to start reading again. But being of iron constitution and having been burnt by this book once too many, I held my nerve and continued to flick (Ok, I read a few panels and lost the will to live again) and then continued to admire the art.
Posehn and Duggan really shat the bed here. And not just shat it either, but Trainspotting levels of shat the bed. Where the sheets get flung out and smelly gravy flies everywhere, infecting all around them with their sterling mediocrity.
I often imagined what Deadpool would be like if he ditched the vast majority of the stupid, cringe humour and actually created impactful, meaningful stories where stuff actually, you know, mattered. Where things were taken seriously. Would that just be Daredevil then? Having not read a Daredevil arc yet (though I have many waiting for me) I might be wrong. Still, Lame jokes and even lamer stories aren't my biscuit. If they're yours, then by all means, check this one out. If not, avoid at all costs. 2/5

It may very well be my favourite run after Joe Kelly's, the Merc with A Mouth, Cable & Deadpool and the Dracula's Gauntlet series.

Read without fear true believers!

Deadpool is a very hit or miss character for me. The way that Daniel Way writes Deadpool is too over the top and silly for my tastes. I prefer a more serious take on the character like Rick Remender did on Uncanny X-Force. That is the run that peaked my interest into Deadpool as a character with more depth. This series starts out on the sillier side and then by the time we get to the "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly" arc (with Declan Shalvey on art), I was completely hooked.

I love the approach to Deadpool in this series and the journey this run takes the reader on. I even enjoyed the event crossovers when they popped up and could have potentially derailed the story. This is the Deadpool run I will go back to when I want to read the character. You also get Tony Moore art for the first arc which is always a delight.

The narrative flowed well, but I disliked the various art work. Didn’t understand aesthetically why certain issues were different styles. It goes well with the story but I would have enjoyed the book more if it were consistent.

Entertaining. I don’t usually log my comic reading, but this tome was time consuming enough to count as a full book to me.

Closer to a 2.5. Just wildly inconsistent and deadpool’s constant wisecracking for EVERYTHING got on my nerves.

Deadpool is a character based read in single issues as he soon grows tiresome when read in this format.
