It’s the day of Bubba and Willodean’s wedding day. The sun is shining. There isn’t a cloud in the sky. The pergola is decorated in high style with baby’s breath and ribbons streaming galore, and the preacher is ready. So what can possibly go wrong? Just about everything can go wrong. While twenty-two types of canapés are being served along with gallons of mimosas, Bubba finds the one thing that he well and truly did not want to find. There’s a dead body in his house. Then the dead body disappears while Bubba goes for help. Then the body reappears with nary a witness except Bubba. One would think all of that would be bad enough, but throw in a super steampunk villain, a cranky baby, no available cellphones, a mother who invited “everyone” to the wedding, and dozens of people trying to keep a secret from Bubba, and one’s got a bona fide comical caper of epic proportions. The questions are very nearly endless. Will there be a wedding? Will Bubba ever find the dead body again? Will he find out who the murderer is? Will this trailer ever end? Bubba and the Wacky Wedding Wickedness is the seventh book in the Bubba Mystery series. The series is as Bubba and the Dead Woman, Bubba and the 12 Deadly Days of Christmas, Bubba and the Missing Woman, Brownie and the Dame (3.5), Bubba and the Mysterious Murder Note, The Ransom of Brownie (4.5), Bubba and the Zigzaggery Zombies, and Bubba and the Ten Little Loonies.
C.L. Bevill has been in the U.S. Army, cleaned floors, a graphic illustrator, a therapist, and a stay at home mother. She lives in the Alabama area with her husband and daughter and keeps plugging away at the next great American novel.
I'm just glad the series is over with. I know I won't read another one. The writer just got under my skin about repeating herself too many times, I personally don't need to be told how tall or heavy they are an someone else every time their mention in the story. Once is ENOUGH!! Other than that the books are pretty good.
I love Bubba and his family and friends - this one was a bit more difficult for me to settle down and read for some reason. The winding story about a dead body, not a dead body, dead body got a little too circuitous...finally however, the deed is done and now onto fatherhood and husbandhood for Bubba. Can't wait until Brownie gets the baby under his wing :)
While it is a funny, enjoyable mystery of sorts it will make absolutely no sense unless the reader has read the previous books. It tends to jump around more than necessary and the murderer seemed to have been pulled out of nowhere. I found it disappointing frankly. Also, having been born and raised in Texas and then living elsewhere in South the rest of my adult life, I found it highly unlikely that Brownie and Janie don't seem to be more acquainted with guns since most rural kids grow up around hunting and Janie is supposed is be from a family of police officers. If someone had had a blunderbuss around when I was growing up, we would have have known about it, probably tried messing with it, and gotten our bottoms "bussed." Also an adult with such weapons, would keep them in a gun safe, for just that reason. So, basically I found both children a bit too "citified," bless their hearts, and I was furious with Bubba's mother for not using her gun safe. She is supposed to be having a long-awaited grandchild!!!
In the first books it didn't bother me too much that the main character was named Bubba, but for some reason, by this book it did. Perhaps because he was getting married. I know LOTS of Bubbas, but that's a nickname like "Brownie." I have never met a man christened Bubba. I've known dogs and one cat named Bubba, though. So basically, that stereotype suddenly started bothering me for some unknown reason.
While we are on stereotypes, the last person I remember referring to the Civil War as the "War of Northern Aggression" was my great grandmother and her two grandfathers, several grand uncles, and cousins were in it. Otherwise, non-reconstructed Southerners, SCV and UDC members may call it the "War Between the States," bless their hearts. Most "true Southerners" call it "The Woe-ar" although there really isn't a way to spell it the way it should be pronounced with "war" being two syllables and all.
Bubba is left to figure out how a dead body winds up in his house on the day of his wedding. Add in the fact that the body keeps disappearing, and you have quite the mystery to solve with Bubba. Bubba, for his part, is suspicious from the get-go that his wedding day may not go smoothly. His mother and everyone he runs into seem to be conspiring to keep something from him. It was told in several POV's and was quite entertaining. I will say that the ending did seem kind of rushed and was hoping for it to be a bit smoother.
I usually enjoy the Bubba books, but this one was just too over the top. The dead body that appears and disappears was enough, but there were more plot devices than you could shake a stick at. I actually found myself thinking, "Enough, already." However David as a steampunk villain made the book for me along with Cookie and her vampire teeth binky.
Unless you have read all the other books in the series, this one will make absolutely no sense. It is for series fans only.
In this Bubba adventure, he has to solve another murder mystery on his wedding day. This story brings out every crazy character from all of his adventures. It's pure pandemonium with lots of alcohol involved.
Bubba and Willodean's wedding day is finally here and everyone is invited! The wedding planner is running the show, the guests are arriving at the Snoddy Mansion for a lavish breakfast - with mimosas - and all is on track. Bubba is excited, but worried. His luck has been pretty bad lately, especially when it comes to discovering dead bodies. Considering they are only hours away from the nuptials a dead body is almost guaranteed to show up.
Determined to make this day the best possible for Willodean, Bubba is going to use the power of positive thinking. He's not going to say, or even think the words dead body. No self-fulfilling prophesies here, no sir! So imagine his dismay when the phones stop working, the tv/cable service goes out, and everyone seems to be acting like they're hiding something.
This book is a riot! Hands down the funniest of the series since Bubba and the Twelve Deadly Days of Christmas! I loved every minute of it! These books are perfect for those times when I need a laugh or want a small town story with zany characters. I absolutely adore Ms. Bevill's comedic style and the Southern inflection adds just the right amount of redneck flair without going overboard. The characters grow on you like good neighbors. Even the meddling ones have their hearts in the right place. If it were possible, I would add a visit to Pegramville and digging for gold at the Snoddy Estate to my Bucket List!
If you've never heard of this series, but love cozy mysteries, definitely check out these books.
I had the privilege of reading a beta copy of this book. I have always enjoyed C.L's Bubba books, along with all her other series. I haven't read all the Bubba books, but I have read enough of them to know (and love) the main characters. Bubba never seems to get a break, and this time is no different. He always seems to stumble across dead bodies and the worst possible time. It happens so much that it is joked about in his family. Of course his wedding day would be the WORST possible time to find a corpse..in his living room..a corpse that keeps disappearing and reappearing. I will not tell you the details of the story, that would be mean. I will tell you that you that all the wacky people of Pegram, Texas that you know and love will show up for the wedding. I will also predict that you will love Cookie (Brownie's sister) and that you will laugh at all the shenanigans. Enjoy.
Drinking and eating not recommend when reading this book!!!!!
Bubba and Willodean are trying to get married. But that corpse that was there and now not isn't there is making Bubba and everyone question is sanity. The gang is back and Brownie and his girl a Friday are also on the seen. This book has it all, comedy, romance, dead people, fireworks and explosions and more dead bodies oh wait is that the same dead body??? Who would move a dead body that's been left for someone else to stumble up on???? Guess you'll have to read this book to find out who's playing body tag and if Bubba and his lady love finally say I Do
Bubba has a knack for stumbling upon dead bodies, even if they are specifically NOT invited to his wedding (per his mother - it was on the invitation). :) The Bubba Snoddy mysteries (and the Brownie novellas) are fun books. I enjoyed this book, but there are a lot of characters in this series to keep up with and the story lines from previous books are continued throughout the series, and that makes it hard to keep up with what is going on at times - especially since it has been a while since I had read the other books in the series. Still, a fun book and I really enjoyed it.
oh Bubba! It's the wedding of the century but of course things don't go to plan. A disappearing reappearing dead body, more canapés and mimosa than is good for anyone, an exploding beer keg, a steam punk super villain (formerly purple superhero/sherlock holmes), Brownie and Janie together again on top form, the cutest baby (even if she is Brownie 's sister Cookie) and a murderer who is cleverly concealed til the end. oh and some fantastically sarcastic chapter headings. everything combining to another amazing Bubba novel from C L.
It's the day of Bubba and Willodean's wedding. Despite a firm statement that dead bodies were not invited, one turns up on Bubba's living room floor...then it disappears...then reappears...then disappears... Everyone seems to be hiding something from him, he ends up minding baby Cookie - with a vampire teeth binky!!! - Willodean turns up with Kevlar over her wedding dress, while Brownie and Janie once again become co-conspirators. You are cordially invited to the wedding of the year...grab your gun! Fabulous!
The entire story takes place all in one day. Bubba's wedding day, and what a day it is! I laughed out loud through the whole thing. From a moving dead body, a lot of very drunk people, and Brownie and Janie's quest for fireworks, this is one wedding I would love to attend. Such a fun book, a true joy to read. I just can't get enough of Bubba and his family and friends, and Precious of course.
First of all start from the beginning. It is imperative you watch these characters from inception, and they are so worth knowing. Understand that predictable does not equal boring but this series has a specific formula and that formula works well. You will shake your head, you will smile, you will laugh out loud, but most of all...you would so want to hang out with these people.
Bubba and the Wacky Wedding Wickedness is the seventh hilarious book in the Bubba series written by author C. L. Bevill. Loved the kids in this one. They need their own story. Keep them coming.
Great great book!!! Best one so far....but I always seem to say that about the Bubba books!! All the great characters are back ....and it's mayhem, which is awesome. I love CL Bevill's writing....she's a genius!! Can't wait till the baby is born! Happy Reading :)
Another wacky adventure for the Snoddy clan. I am addicted to this whole series! If you have yet to dive into this crazy series, start at the beginning for some wacky misadventures
I thoroughly enjoy these fast paced Bubba books! Totally loveable characters.. Even Brownie. Hoping for more more more. Do yourself a favor and read them all! You will laugh out loud, no doubt about it.
