Zez joins the Citadel at age eleven, with a colourful history behind her. Her skills grow with every year, and in a decade, her ability to stop time in a confined area draws the attention of the Sector Guard.
Immune is paired with the young woman with the dark past, and he sets his mind to keep her under control and save the innocents she might sweep away with her actions.
Somewhere in the mire of distrust, a partnership is formed. The partnership has the potential to grow into something else, but resentments and accusations will slow the development.
This one was a little different. The heroine had a traumatic childhood that led her to commit certain crimes. When she's rescued by the Citadel, she is made safe and is able to be trained such that she'll be able to help others. The romance in this one is also less obvious, in that the two aren't expecting to like each other at first. And it takes some effort for them to come to an understanding. While I understand the author's desire to move on to a different setting, I'll miss this series.
For the record, I detest deux ex machine interjection. Having said that, this story is the ONLY such story that felt like it even had a point. Nicely done.
A great combination of story and unique characters, this brings back the Nameless in a very special way. Well paced, the tale of Zez, her partner Korlin and their journey from adversarial to true partners is filled with small moments that build a strong and solid base for their future. The appearance of the Nameless was a bonus, and a surprise.
