In Deep Wish by B.E. Sanderson This is the second installment in B.E. Sanderson's Once Upon A Djinn series. I'm torn between shaking my fist at the author and shaking her while screaming, "WRITE FASTER!!!" so I can get my hands on the next book in the series. I just thought I loved Jo Mayweather, djinn rescuer extraordinaire, and Zeke ben Aron, djinn bad boy and Jo's former lover, in the first book, WISH IN ONE HAND. Djinns is definitely a series. While you can read them as stand-alones, why penalize your reading enjoyment. Start with the first and dive right into the second. I can't wait for the third!

So...why I love this book and the series...

B.E. Sanderson creates multi-layered characters that aren't just black and white. They seem very real for mythical critters. Her world-building is impeccable with magical rules, rich history, and a whole lot of fun. This is a read that made me laugh, yell, shake my fist, and shout "Oh no they didn't!" Jo had me cheering, Mary and Eloise made me laugh, and Zeke turned my emotions into a tennis match. No spoilers. Just...if Zeke ultimately breaks my heart, I shall haunt the author. Just sayin'....

Jo Mayweather's trials and tribulations aren't over yet thanks to bad genies, betrayals by people--er, genies--she trusted, gods who like to play around, and family secrets that she wishes had been kept hidden, but being a genie isn't all bad. You can eat whatever and however much you want without gaining a pound!

I loved this book as much as the first in the series! They're just plain fun! The imaginative story line is great, but the best part of all is the witty humor that never stops coming. I've got a bad habit of reading one book in a series, then reading something else before going on to the next one, but in this case I went from book one to book two and now I'm on to book three and loving every page of all of them.

I won an ARC for "In Deep Wish" and I've had trouble putting it down since it arrived!

It's a fun, fast-paced urban fantasy with lots of surprises. And it's not your usual urban fantasy. Jo is a genie with a mission to save her fellow djinn, who have been enslaved for eons. But the "Rules" interfere with her success -- and even with her very survival.

It's the second in this great series, and I can hardly wait for the third one to become available.

I like the book but it didn't grab me like other books by this author. The first genie book in this series was fast and fun. This one seemed slow and disjointed. Jo has been on a crusade to free genies from masters. In her opinion, genies should be free. This is not liked by some of the more powerful genies around and they set out to stop her. Even her ex-boyfriend, Zeke, gets involved although it isn't clear whether he is on her side or not. Anyway, there are many genies involved and lots of teleporting and mind erasing but the book ends on an upbeat. The next book will no doubt find her in another mess. It is just her nature.
