Andrew Kirschner published the superhero novel "Ms Infinity: Earth's Greatest Hero" in 2015. Like Bonnie Boring, the hero of his stories, he lives in Queens and struggles with careers and wears nifty glasses. Unlike her, he doesn't have superpowers. He does have a car though. A Kia.

He's an educated fella, with two Masters Degrees, in Secondary Education and Urban Planning, He has worked in many different fields, including advertising, government, manufacturing, and education. He currently works as a New York City social studies teacher and lives with his wife and three children.

Bonnie Boring had to flee to Earth with her mother from a distant planet. She and her mother, Betty, have super powers. While Betty tries to hide them, Bonnie doesn't hold back and as her alter ego Ms. Infinity she saves the people of NYC from all kinds of threats. Needless to say she's hardly challenged on this planet where humanity's biggest superpower may be trying to stick to our crazy schedules. One day Bonnie notices a nearby threat: it's her long-time nemesis, Mysery, who is from the same planet as Bonnie. Can she stand up to her old enemy?

I was pleasantly surprised by this story. Ms. Infinity is a light-hearted read that more than once reminded me of a comic book through it's writing style. It's written in the uncommon omniscient POV which felt fitting to the story. Nevertheless, there's still a lot to be gained in terms of story craft (for example there's a lot of telling rather than showing), although the author's voice is well-developed and consistent, making up for it most of the time.

It's funny at times and the protagonist is a sassy badass. While it feels like she's overpowered at times, she's flawed in other ways.
The dialogue is well-written and perhaps one of the best aspects of the book. The characters are likeable and each one has their own voice and backstory.

On a more practical note I do want to point out that the formatting scared me at first. The pages contain about twice as many words as most books I've read. Also, there are quite a few typos to be found that seem like (most of them) could've been easily avoided. Despite all this, I did enjoy the story and recommend it to anyone who's looking for a quick and fun super hero story

It has been great getting to know the alien refugee super heroine Ms Infinity in the first novel of the series, Ms Infinity: Earth's Greatest Hero. I recommend the book to all superhero lovers! Author Andrew Kirschner juxtaposes the settings of New York City and deep outer space literally in the blink of Ms. Infinity's eye. The story of Bonnie (Ms. Infinity) and her mother Betty's violent past on their Centerian home planet, their escape to the safety of Earth and subsequent successful assimilation is revealed as Ms. Infinity's legend begins to grow.
Yes, Ms. Infinity is aka Bonnie Boring but she is in no way bland. She is a superhero dynamo! Originally from a distant world this galactic migrant keeps a low persona working an uninspiring 9-5 job on Earth in New York City, while also ready to save the day. Ms Infinity's super powers are on an exponential level. Not only can she move at speeds unable to be seen, shape shift into unimaginably fierce creatures, manipulate time and create objects from matter, she can heal herself and others and use her super breath to freeze, vacuum or create cyclonic winds from air particles. Combining work issues, outer stellar dominating dictators and a love story, Andrew Kirschner ticks superhero boxes while using his novel t0 flip gender roles and comment on sexual, racial and employment inequality.

This is a mega fun book. Though I don’t say fun without an intelligent mind behind the pen too. Kirschner strikes up a wonderfully imaginative and dense story and dialogue.

I really enjoyed this read! It's not a genre I usually pick up, so I admit I found some of the language targeted at younger readers tricky to gel with at first, but for a teenage audience I think this would flow beautifully.
Bonnie is wonderful: strong and brave and her story helps deliver important messages of self-belief and resilience.
Definitely worth a read!

Book Rating: ★★★☆☆ (3.25 / 5 stars)

“Never forget the power you have inside you!”

Ms. Infinity is Earth’s Greatest Hero. Whenever there is trouble, she is there. Many fantasize about who she is, where she came from, and why she saves the day, including Hal Holstein. But what Hal doesn’t expect is for Ms. Infinity to be Bonnie Boring, his crush from the Big Box Store. Ms. Infinity takes him up to her starship, where soon Hal learns about Ms. Infinity’s secrets, as well as the darkest corners of her past. Are the two of them ready to tackle a relationship when Misery is afoot? Can they overcome the balance between a regular human and a super hero? And in the end, who will really save the day?

Ms. Infinity is a hero we all need; she is brash, bold, commanding, and most importantly, good. While her hubris gets the best of her at times, it makes her all the more human. It’s not her powers that make her weak, but who she is, and the readers are along for her journey in discovering her true power. It’s not about these otherworldly abilities that are equal to Superman or Wonderwoman. If anything, she is a caricature of heroes; she is noble like them, but also just a person trying to make due in the world. So much of this is important when reading and watching super heroes. Let us see their flaws.

Despite the story being about Ms. Infinity, I was really drawn to the side plot with Lisa Lin – Bonnie’s best friend and coworker. This side plot shows how everyone has a hero inside of them; while Lisa’s heroic duty was taking down a sexist and abusive manager at the Big Box Store, it is an act that we can all applaud and relate towards in the modern world. In some ways, Lisa represents the more traditional hero in her outlook. It isn’t about pizazz, but about justice.

I’ve already read Ms. Infinity: Where Infinity Begins and Ms. Infinity: Infinite Moon, and I feel that this story, which is the first written in the series, is probably the weakest. I would not discredit it though. In fact, I implore you to check out one of Ms. Infinity’s other adventures first. Andrew Kirschner has just gotten better with each story, ironing out the characters and strengthening his craft. In this first book, the dialogue is a bit clunky, and having not read Where Infinity Begins, I might have been a bit lost.

But Ms. Infinity is still infinitely amazing! She’s a hero everyone can look up to, not just for her heroism, but also for her humanity. So if you want a fun read, that’s a little “tongue-in-cheek”, check out one of Ms. Infinity’s adventures.

And I cannot wait for the next edition in her quest for good.

Andrew Kirschner has created a dynamic female superhero in the male dominated superhero fiction genre. Author Kirschner takes the time to develop a comprehensive backstory for the costumed crime fighter named Bonnie Boring that remains an essential part of the on-going story right up to the end which contains revelations that will surprise readers.

In regards to Bonnie, the story focuses on two things. First there is the evolution of Bonnie Boring/Ms. Infinity as she navigates the challenges of being an adult in world unaware of her secret identity or the dangers that arise from her enemies. As she struggles to maintain a ‘normal’ life and pursue relationships with her peer group, she also begins to understand her mother’s continual concerns about being overly confident in her powers as well as in her self-created image. Bonnie has the power to transform herself and has chosen to create a visual identity of Ms. Infinity that her mother claims looks a bit like a super model. Conversations about positive self-image are thoughtfully included in the storyline that will resonate for young adult readers.

Throughout the story, body positivity, patriarchy, and misogyny are brought up in relation to events that transpire within the plotline. These brief conversations are not overbearing and add a dimension to the story that young adult readers will likely appreciate as so much of these topics are relevant to YAs today.

The second focus of the story ties into some of the above, but also introduces readers to Bonnie Boring’s nemesis, Misery. Names are important in Ms. Infinity, and author Kirschner does an excellent job explaining why that is. The conflict between Bonnie and Misery contains the second focus of the story.

There’s also a storyline about a conflict at Bonnie’s place of employment that transpires while she faces off with Misery, and I felt that storyline provided necessary breaks from the superhero action going on off-planet.

Ms. Infinity – Earth’s Greatest Hero is book one in a three book series. Young adult readers will enjoy getting to know the personality of Bonnie Boring and her relationships with her group of friends. While book one is part of a series, it doesn’t end on a cliffhanger. It absolutely reads as a standalone if you wish it to be that way. I would recommend author Andrew Kirschner’s Ms. Infinity – Earth’s Greatest Hero to parents and young adults who are looking for a fun read with a dynamic new female superhero who can definitely deliver more crime fighting adventures throughout the book series.

A new hero to save the world

At first I was a little put off by the main character of this book, but Ms. Infinity (Bonnie) grew on me and I started to really like her. Hal, however was probably my favorite character. Kirschner did a great job with all his characterizations (both main and background). Their conversations were real, their personalities unique, and their goals sound.

I have to admit though, my all time favorite thing about Kirschner’s Ms. Infinity were the fight scenes. They were well thought out and described perfectly. I haven’t read any book in awhile that’s had such elaborate action scenes. It was nice and I think it pays homage to the comic books that Bonnie reads. I could see them playing out before my eyes like a panel. Little zonks! and whams! popping up in my mind.

One thing I found odd about this work was the use of gender roles. Now, I’m not saying this is a bad thing. It just confused me a little at first, but it actually helps strengthen Bonnie’s character. Kirschner took a female character (Bonnie) and a male character (Hal) and put them in unorthodox roles.

Bonnie is shown to be superior in both intelligence and strength. She’s an advanced life form from a different planet that’s aware of scientific concepts that humanity cannot grasp.

Hal is her polar opposite. Though he’s smart in his own way and a generally good description of the male community, when placed beside Bonnie he’s the weaker one. That’s how Misery, the villain, sees him. Yet, we find out he’s not as inferior as he may appear as he comes up with some good ideas.

Over all, I’d say this book is an excellent read. I can’t wait to read the sequel as the ending left me wondering about the General and what may come about. I think Wonder Woman, Batgirl, and Captain Marvel would be proud to have Ms. Infinity in their ranks.

I give it a 3.7 out of 5 stars.

Meet Ms. Infinity, an immigrant from a planet light-years away, and in true American tradition, her and her mother are seeking a better life. Earth has become her home and she would do anything to protect it especially from her former planet. Misery is threatening her new home and she will do whatever it takes to defend it.

What I liked:
The book really shines in the description and exposition. The prologue is divine and sets the tone for the rest of the story. The overall message is wonderful. Everyone has the capability to be a hero. There were other themes in there that really resonated with me; immigration, women's rights, and the haves and have nots. The parts where Bonnie(Ms.Infinity) was talking with her mother were wonderful. Willful daughter fighting against the sage advice of a mother who has always been there for her whether Bonnie knew it or not. The subplot with what was happening at the Big Box store where Bonnie worked was good. Lisa standing up to a bully was excellent.

What I didn't like:
The dialogue needed something more. The banter between Lisa Lin and Bonnie(Ms.Infinity) didn't seem in line with 25 year old women. Closer to 18 honestly. There are a few typos and the formatting was not up to par. This is the reason it isn't a solid 4, but I also know that if these were resolved that this book could easily become a five.

Overall, I loved the spirit of the novel and what it stands for. It's a lovely light read, and I'm putting the author's second novel on my sequel TBR list.

This is the story of Bonnie, who is Ms. Infinity, and her mother's escape to Earth. They make Earth their home and assume normal roles in the workforce while blending in with humans. Ms. Infinity finds a boyfriend named Hal who likes Bonnie before knowing she is Ms. Infinity. Once her identity is revealed to him, Hal joins her on a mission to stop her enemy, known as Misery, from carrying out an attack on Earth.

Ms. Infinity has amazing superpowers. She shapeshifts, bullets bounce off her, she can read human's minds... She also created a futuristic mansion-like ship with basically every amenity you could think of.

I like how Ms. Infinity isn't perfect. For example, her singing is terrible. I also like how she's a strong, independent woman. Early on in the story she talks down to Hal, but corrects herself. Just another example of her not being perfect.

Quotes I liked:
"Well, look at your approach. You turned yourself into a vision of perfection, an omnipotent superhero who looks like a supermodel. That's an image that nobody can truly live up to, yourself included. So can you really be surprised if you have trouble competing with it?"

"Surveillance is the kind of power that is very easily abused."

And in her arms, in her power, Hal felt safer than perhaps he ever had. At the moment, her love was all he needed. He wondered if she could read his mind, and indeed if she could, that would be fine with him. And so it was.

Ms. Infinity is a fun superhero tale following Bonnie Boring as she learns to balance both of her identities. On one hand, she works at the customer service desk of a “big box story” and in her spare time she is saving people and battling the bad guys. Kirschner created a whole cast of supporting characters that brought life to the story. I especially enjoyed the over-arching theme of the importance of family and close friends. One quote that resonated with me was, “… (family) that’s what makes this life matter. When you have people who depend on you, whether you’re working a job, or you’re with the kids, or you’re doing the housework, then you know that you mean something. That’s what life’s about.”
Bonnie/Ms. Infinity is a positive character that always tries to see the best in people and she is always encouraging them to “never forget the power you have inside you!” This is a powerful message to anyone who reads the book and will leave a lasting impression.
This book was a fun, easy read and would be a great edition to anyone’s superhero collection of books.

This novel had me smiling from the start. It’s a fun take on a superhero story, featuring a wonderful hero, Bonnie, an alien who wants to use her powers to help the world.

I love the little details, like when Bonnie, an alien asks “who speaks with the same thing you eat with?” as if that’s strange! And Bonnie’s mum worrying about Bonnie being in outer space without a jacket. Such attention to detail and thought about the way an alien might view our world.

I also adore the characters! I instantly fell for Lisa, who has this easily-underestimated look to her and yet it so determined, assertive while keeping her cool. Kirschner does a wonderful job of presenting awesome female heroes that I’d be proud for my young ones to read about.

A memorable and fun read!

Ms. Infinity is great for YA readers who enjoy the tales of superheroes! Ms. Infinity knows what she likes, and what she wants. She isn’t afraid of holding her ground making a strong hero. Kirschner has created a fun world full of diverse characters, and doesn’t shy away from some of the hard-truths of reality. It was a really fun to read about a superhero who has such a wild range of powers, and learning quite a bit about her home planet. I feel like a lot of times in superhero stories (especially if they’re from another world) you don’t learn much about their place of origination. I look forward to reading the other books in the series!

What a fun book this was! I wasn't sure what to expect, but Kirschner entertained me the entire time.
Bonnie Boring (aka Ms. Infinity,) is a super-hero with infinite powers and who has a strong personality. Who doesn't like a book with women who know what they want?
I enjoyed the friendship between Bonnie and Lisa, and the relationship between Bonnie and her mom. I also appreciated the gender role flip in this story, it was a great surprise that I loved.
Ms. Infinity is full of diverse characters and is such a fun read!

A fun introduction to the worlds newest super hero. I actually read the third book to this series before this one. So it was fun to go back and learn about Miss Bonnie Boring and how her name became her name, how she met Hal and how she came to earth. If you love super hero’s you will love to read about Ms Infinity and her journey to keep her secret powers a secret while saving the world at the same time!

A great book for YA Super hero enthusiasts! Ms. Infinity hits the spot for strong female protagonist with super hero/super powers, and like all of us Ms. Infinity/Bonnie Boring must learn to the whole work life balance--except as a super hero its balancing her identities! Combined with a cast of supporting, memorable characters this was a fun YA read.

While I enjoy the superhero genre I took some issue with the claims of Ms. Infinity being original. This story steals liberally from Superman and Wonder Woman. I took issue with the dialogue. It felt immature (26 year old females making multiple fart jokes? Saying ‘doodyhead’ and ‘weenie’?) and unnatural at times. Ms. Infinity comes off as rude, which I think was an attempt to play on gender stereotypes – but it doesn’t make her more likable.

Bonnie Boring lands on Earth with her mother at age 13. Then instead of having their awkward fish out of water story, complete with all the teething problems of aliens coming to a new planet, we skip ahead thirteen years. The world now knows who Ms. Infinity is. This is another missed opportunity for an origin story. This book could have been New York finding out about Ms. Infinity. I believe that the origin story is in book 2. The mother character is largely absent from the action from then on, offering only advice.

Within her retail workplace someone is stealing. The management announces they will be checking tills at the start and end of the shifts. What were they doing before then? This whole subplot didn’t gel. Half the story has the extremely low stakes of customer service at The Big Box while the other half is asteroids and world ending chaos. It feels like two completely different books. The events at the Big Box also resolve themselves without Bonnie – adding to the disconnect.

This wasn’t as fun as I’d hoped. Characters repeat themselves in exposition, Characters announce their intentions, e.g. ‘Should I go and talk to the girl I like?’ Almost nothing is revealed organically, just stated for the reader. We jump around into the heads of multiple characters and the events that just occurred are repeated for characters that were absent. It makes the whole story feel like work to read.

She’s too powerful, which was also the issue with Superman. Ms. Infinity can become invisible, has freeze breath, has X-ray vision, Super speed and strength. Oh and she can read minds, reshape matter, manipulate time, heal herself and she has a Wonder Woman style invisible plane that can take her lightyears into Space. It seems to me that with all these powers she’s wasting her time on Earth doing tedious day-to-day things. There were also far too many exclamation marks for me!!!

It might be that a younger reader could enjoy this (but with some of the insults being more adult I’m not sure they should). While I appreciate where it was trying to be tongue in cheek it missed the mark for me.

Ms. Infinity truly is Earth's Greatest Hero! She goes through the same everyday struggles as you and I - From holding down her job and paying bills to dealing with embarrassment and socially awkward situations. All this while secretly being a super hero. I had the feeling of a superman retelling while reading it with some awesome twists thrown in for good measure. Mr. Kirschner is obviously a massive fan of super heroes, and it shows. While the origin of Infinity is ala Superman, her day to day struggles are more easily equated to Diana Prince - A.K.A. Wonder Woman, particularly the 70s/80s show (is that the right year?) All in all Ms. Infinity is a Hero you'll root for and aspire to Emulate! This book is a solid read, and I highly recommend it to fans of super heroes, and even coming of age stories. Support Mr. Kirschner and Fall in love with Ms. Infinity just like I did.

Fantastic

I'm not usually a fan of the superhero genre, but I'm really glad I gave this book a chance. Ms Infinity is a fantastic hero and even though she seems to be able to do everything, she has some real and relatable flaws. The secondary story following her best friend sends a wonderful message that you don't have to have super powers to be a hero.

I would recommend this book more for YA.

If I put myself in a viewpoint of a YA reader, I think i may enjoy it. However, I did find it odd that the mc's were about 25 and acting a little immature for their age. Finding it from a YA standpoint, I think the descriptions and dialogue would be on par with understanding. As an adults reading this, for me, it felt a bit more simplistic. But this is why I do believe this would be a good read for YA.

I thought the gender anti discrimination was a really positive point in this book. At times I felt that it was a bit too much throughout the whole book but I was glad there was such a thing in the first place.

Conclusion: I recommend it for YA. Especially geared toward young women.

A fun read for Young Adults
A departure from my usual self-help and business books, Ms. Infinity Series was a fun read. Ms. Infinity and her friend Lisa were courageous and likable heroines! I could do without the social commentary but, it wasn’t overboard so I was able to stay with the story. I think comic fans and adventure seekers will enjoy this book.

‘Ms. Infinity' written by Andrew Kirschner is the first installment in future series that introduces Earth's greatest hero - Bonnie Boring of Queens. Thirteen years ago she came on planet Earth, in her new home, away from troubles and battle for survival.

In present time she works as a customer service girl at a big box store, but this is only one of her two identities – Bonnie is also the super heroine Ms. Infinity. And when her home world becomes target of Misery, a ruthless villain, without mercy or conscience, Ms. Infinity together with Hal Holstein, Bonnie's work sympathy will embark on journey to save the day.

They two will use Bonnie’s cool looking Starship Infinity space ship hidden at the dark side of the moon and travel far away to complete their mission. Though, the mission will become much harder than Ms. Infinity expected…

I don't want to spoil the fun for those readers that are going to embark on this exciting mission together with our heroine and her sidekick, yet I have to say how surprised I was with the author’s style that easily draws you into the action and you become part of his exciting story.

Though YA, I would say, would be its target audience, this book and future series will be easily loved also by adult readers because it offers great mix of adventure, science fiction and humor what makes Kirschner’s book an especially appealing experience. Therefore - big recommendations for this book and its author.

I was given a copy of this book by the author for the purpose of unbiased review, while all the presented information is based on my impressions.
