Banished from the classroom at Madame Leroux's Finishing School for questioning Madame's assertion that young ladies did not need to study mathematics, Leah Worthington and her clockwork automaton companion, faux-Andrew, are sent to nearby Saint Genevieve's Church so she can practice sketching the exquisite stained glass windows. Here she discovers the body of the master craftsman sent to examine the windows in preparation for a visit from the new Italian consul. Unlike the local constable, Leah questions that his death was the result of an accidental fall from his ladder.
Cecilia Dominic became a clinical psychologist because she's fascinated by people and their stories, but she couldn't stop making stuff up. By day, she helps people cure their insomnia. By night, she writes fiction that keeps her readers turning pages past bedtime. Yes, she recognizes the conflict of interest between her two careers, but she prefers to be called versatile, not conflicted. Cecilia has been published in short and novel-length fiction and currently writes urban fantasy and steampunk. She lives in Atlanta, Georgia with her husband and the world’s cutest cat.
The Clockwork Boy by Cecilia Dominic is a cleverly written steampunk story for young adults. I gave it five stars. It was short but entertaining. I will look for more of this author's writing.
I received a complimentary copy from the author. That did not change my opinion for this review.
