Catch A Falling Star A Hideaway Down Novel (Book 2)
Sometimes stars need help to shine.
Laurel French is happy – and why wouldn’t she be? She’s young, free and single; she owns The Coffee Hideaway, lives in the prettiest village in East Sussex and is surrounded by friends… even if some of them are a little eccentric. What more could she want? Love? Not Laurel. Love is the last thing Laurel wants to think about… because it’s unrequited. Ned Stelling is in love with someone else.
Jamie McDay is miserable. Hollywood has become a gilded cage. The paparazzi are snapping at his heels, and since he dumped his co-star girlfriend in a spectacularly stupid public display, he’s been dropped from the Vampire series that made him a heart-throb, movie star. Visiting his friend, Gabriel Hardwick will cheer him up. Hideaway Down may be a bit ‘twee’ but local stunner, Ivy Gilroy could definitely put a permanent smile on Jamie’s face. That’s if he can persuade her to dump her boyfriend, Ned.
Emily writes novels, novellas and short stories about friendship, family and falling in love. She believes in love at first sight and she loves a happy ending but knows that life doesn't always go to plan. Her stories are sure to bring a smile to your face and a warmth to your heart.
Emily loves to connect with her readers. In addition to her newsletter, she has a readers' group on Facebook, where she shares all her latest news and even gets readers involved in choosing titles, book covers and more. To catch up with Emily, find out about the group, or connect with her on social media, go to her website at https://www.emilyharvale.com
Having lived and worked in London for several years, Emily returned to her home town of Hastings where she writes full-time. She’s a member of the SoA, an Amazon bestseller and a Kindle All Star. When not writing, Emily says she can be found enjoying the stunning East Sussex coast and countryside, but she’s more likely to be found with friends, enjoying a glass of wine or a cup of coffee, and definitely some cake. Emily has two mischievous rescue cats, Beatrix and Portia, who like to sprawl across her keyboard, regardless of whether Emily is typing on it, or not.
Normally in a romance, you can reasonably successfully predict who is going to end up with who, but amazingly for me, in Catch A Falling Star, I wasn't sure which way it was going to finish, until I reached the exciting climax.
This is the second book in the Hideaway Down series and can easily be read as a standalone. There are a lot of familiar characters in it, if you read the first book, and one very key new introduction Jamie, who is a Hollywood star and friend of author, Gabriel Hardwick. And yes the Gaggle Gang are back and still causing a bit of chaos.
Laurel, has been in love with Ned Stelling for her whole life, but he doesn't know it. He is in love with Ivy, who is Laurel's good friend. Ivy also fancies Hollywood star Jamie and can't believe he has come to Hideaway Down to visit. Jamie clearly fancies Ivy but chooses to ask out Laurel on a date/non date to try and cause some jealousy to occur.
Two men and two women and I was continually changing my mind as to where I thought the romances would end up by the end of the book. Amazingly the majority of the book takes place over the two days of the May Day bank holiday weekend, and just shows what can happen over the course of a weekend.
I love the setting of Hideaway Downs, and the whole May Day celebrations, which bring much needed visitors to a small town. I love the small town feel to the place, and how everyone knows everyone's business and just how fast the gossip telegraph was in this town.
Catch A Falling Star, despite making a song run through my head, is a relatively short, quick enjoyable story, and a good addition to this series. I'm already looking forward to returning in Hideaway Downs in book 3 later this year.
Thank you to Emily Harvale for this review copy. This was my honest opinion.
Not near as good or believable as the other three. I did not care for the actions of the movie star and did not like that his finagling was not brought to light.
I skipped to the end and the second I read it I promptly returned this to KU.
Can't wait for Ivy and Jamie to cheat on their respective partners within a couple of months.
Is it a romance if people keep fantasizing about other people till 80% of the book? Or if they give up on life-long crushes and "fall in love" in 48 hours?
Ivy who has a BF goes around thinking and saying out loud about how she doesn't mind having Jamie in her bed. She defends this desire to cheat thinking (and saying out loud again) that she and Ned have only been together for a few months and he doesn't own her!
I loved this following book. I loved the new character and it was great catching up with the characters from book one. It had a great romantic end, and I love the descriptions of the village, which as a reader you love to get drawn in to village life. Looking forward to the next book.
Another great read from my favourite author . I love the way the characters intertwine in each book of the series . You get so involved you feel you know them all . Emily Harvale is a wonderful writer and the minute you finish one book you are eager for the next
Romance in spades. You do know of course who is going to end up with who but lovely book in a totally beautiful spot. We would all like to live in a place like this. Escapism for the busy mind. Easy to pick up and put down. Looking forward to reading the next one.
I was sorry to finish this series, however, I will be ready reading it in the near future. If you are looking for a story that will grab you, make you fall in love with the characters, and leave you wanting more, this is the series for you.
I just love Emily Harvales books they draw me in completely i have to have the next one to keep on top of what her characters are up to. I think everyone needs a little more romance in their lives.
My rating is because it was of the best books I've read in a while. It was about love and people. The people were most interesting. Well done Emily Harvale. I will recommend this to my sisters.
After reading the first book in the series, I expected the rest to be good too. What I didn't expect was the next to be better! The characters are more fun, confused and intense. Thank you for a most enjoyable read
I couldn't wait to start reading this book as I am a big fan of Emily Harvale's books. This one got me back into reading after having a bit of time off. From the moment I started reading this book I felt as though I was there in Hideaway Down. I feel with Emily's characters as though I know them all personally, it is because she just has a way with her words. In Emily's books you feel like you can relate to the characters which I like. I am so pleased I have found Emily Harvale as she is such a incredible author. Thank you Emily.
I have just discovered this author. She writes romances, rather than books about sex. Her novels always have a twist to them, or at least the three I've read have. Her characters are well drawn, they're not all stunningly beautiful, or incredibly wealthy, they're you and me. They're suitable for anyone aged 14 to 100 and they're free on Kindle Unlimited. What could be better? Put the kettle on and start reading!
I have just devoured this book in one lazy Sunday afternoon. Emily has done it again. I was enthralled from the first page to the last. The characters are wonderfully likeable and the story itself is very creative.
Now I off to read the next book in the series and hope that it is just as good as this one.
Now that was a great roller coaster ride! It's funny the things we think we know about ourselves. Even funnier when we decide how other people feel. Maybe a few moments of honest dialogue would be good. Rare, but still good.
I really enjoyed catching a fallen star. catching a fallen star is what I would call a short story, easy to read and I enjoyed the plot twist. I would definitely recommend it to people that enjoy an easy read and like a little bit of romance.
