The Coincidence #4

Con te sarà uno sbaglio

Rate this book

I love emotional reads. I love to feel. I don’t mind books that make me cry and put me in turmoil. Jessica Sorensen knows how to do all that and she does it well. This Violet & Luke book was a little more on the depressing side and less on the emotional side for me personally. I still liked it, I just didn’t love it like some of her others.

The last we saw Violet & Luke, they were both in a bad place. Violet is back with her foster dad, Preston, dealing. And Luke is drinking and gambling in excess. They both are self deprecating and down on life.

We’re both abruptly reminded that make believe is just that and doesn’t really exist unless you live in a fairytale.

Luke and Violet might go to the same school, but they’ve avoided one another for two months. Ever since the big reveal at the end of the last book. But now Luke is in trouble. And it brings them together in a big way. When Violet see’s that Luke needs her, she can’t not be there for him. And the more time Luke spends with Violet, the more he realizes that she may be just as messed up and damaged as he is.
God, I’ve never felt my heart shatter for someone else more than I have at this moment.

As much as he's tried to deny how he really feels, Luke knows Violet is his girl. His feelings run deep. No matter what outside forces and circumstances try to drive them apart.

The last half of the book takes place in Vegas. That’s where the action really starts to happen and we get some clarity on questions we may have had from the past. The last 30% or so, it really started to pick up for me.

Violet and Luke are both damaged characters- which are my favorite. After finishing, I think a new character we were introduced to is my favorite (Ryler). Luke’s cousin. I’m excited to hear he’s getting his own story this winter!

Even though this wasn’t an amazing read for me, it was still good and I am looking forward to the conclusion of Violet & Luke’s story. We got a lot of answers, but I’m still looking for that final revelation I know will come. And I’m hoping and praying that Jessica will give these two a happy ever after. They really need it. And that she put a little more of my boy Kayden in the next book xo

"We’re both abruptly reminded that make believe is just that and doesn’t really exists unless you live in a fairytale.

I think that just about sums this one up. Luke and Violet's lives have been nothing like a fairytale. Even their college experience isn't like what we read in most books about college students. There are no drunken parties, hanging out with friends, or hot dates. No Luke and Violet have real problems, and I guess that is expected based on their pasts. I guess, it would just be really nice if these two could catch a break.

Violet is receiving threatening text messages, and still hoping to find peace about her parents murder. The book leaves off with her and Luke apart, and she is living with Preston again.

Luke is trying to raise money for a debt he owes back home. So he and Violet end up going to Vegas to try to win it back.

I want to love this story more, because I really liked Luke when he was in Kayden and Callie's book. Again, I am just worn out, I feel like Luke and Violet need a break! Something to make me smile. I am still cheering these two on and hoping they get some peace and happines in the third book.

2.5 stars…. Huh?.

I went back and forth on this one. It took me a good six months to finish it. I’m just going to say it…

This was a filler book. Absolutely nothing happened, except for the last chapter

I like Sorensen books because it just consumes me and she’s known for her crazy cliffys. I’m not a huge fan of angst, but she has a way of sucking me into these random messed up storylines.

Someone is always hurting

Someone is always pushing someone away

Someone is always searching for something

Yadda yadda yadda… I can’t get enough

I’m not sure what went wrong with The Probability of Violet and Luke. I guess with the epic cliffy from the previous book, I kind of wanted some answers and mild tension?

I think the problem was that I didn’t like the storyline. Luke gets into trouble. He gets caught cheating and he needs funds to bail himself out. So what does he do? He gambles some more to get the money. I know, I eye rolled too.

Violet is coming to terms with the truth and she’s just a big-o-ugly-mess. Like you don’t want to be around her because she is just self destructive. She’s an annoying Heroine and you want to shake her. So, I get why she can’t be around Luke, but the next best thing is to go live with your pervert foster father? REALLY?!!!! Because nothing could happen right? She’s really stupid.

So Luke and Violet have this crazy tension. She is mad at him and he feels guilt. But Luke is in a bad situation and Violet is in a situation so I guess they decide to be in a situation together. I don’t know, it just seems like… over kill?

I felt like I didn’t gain anything from this one and I was highly disappointed. Will I continue with the story? Probably, but that’s just me. I’m silly like that.

The Probability of Violet and Luke is book four in the series, The Coincidence by Jessica Sorensen. This book starts up two months after the ending of the third book, The Destiny of Violet and Luke, when a terrible connection was revealed. Just when Violet and Luke thought they might have found happiness with each other, they discovered that the worst events of their past, events that defined who they are now, are connected in the most horrible of ways. And what did Violet do, she ran.

When Violet discovered that Luke’s mother was involved in the deaths of her parents, she couldn’t stay, she couldn’t face him. But she had nowhere to go, except back to Preston. And Preston isn’t going to let her stay with him without making her pay, one way or another. These two months since she has been back have been hell, and that is putting it mildly. But where else can she go? School has started back up and she has seen Luke but they don’t speak. Preston has another job for her to do. He wants her to go to a big poker game where some hard core gamblers will be to sell his drugs. Can Violet put on her game face and pull this off? She doesn’t have a choice.

“It used to be so much easier to do this, float around in life, detached from everyone, including myself. But that was before I met Luke and discovered what it was like to be happy. And the worst part of it is knowing I’ll never have it again.”

 photo tumblr_mf1aeohw401qdunk8o1_500_zps5e3e6960.gif

Luke is worse than ever before since Violet left. His drinking is off the charts and his gambling, worse. But without Violet, he just doesn’t care. But he is in over his head when he chooses this particular poker game. And partway through the game, who walks in but Violet. The game goes horribly wrong and he and Violet are forced to flee, together. Will this force Violet and Luke to confront the issues between them?

“Through the insanity of my life, Violet is the one sane thing I have, even if our relationship is insane itself.”

 photo truck_zpsa0110840.jpg

Violet and Luke are a mess. But apart, they are falling apart. Once they are back together, I felt like there was hope for them. But other issues come into play. Violet is receiving threatening texts from someone unknown. The texts are becoming increasingly violent and he/she seems to know disturbing details of where Violet is and who she is with. And the Uncle they are staying with is also unstable. And to top it all off, the detective Violet has been in contact with calls her with some shocking information regarding her parents. It seems as though she didn’t know them as well as she thought she did. All this is happening just as she and Luke are slowly letting down the walls they have built up.

“Part of me wonders, if I could ever, possibly, maybe, let go of the past enough to really be with Luke, if it could be me and him against the world.”

 photo couple_zpse7437f95.jpg

Jessica Sorensen surely can write broken and destructive. She has not let us down with Violet and Luke. And I couldn’t tear my eyes away! I don’t know for sure why but I think this was my favorite book of the series so far. Their journey together takes them from college to Las Vegas to California. There was constantly something going on and I couldn’t put it down. And, of course, it ends in a cliff hanger. I will be first in line to see what happens next, if Violet and Luke can finally fine peace and happiness.

“How can one girl’s world be so shattered. So broken. So painful. I want to take all of it for her—I would in a heartbeat if I could.”

”It’s always been against the world. But part of me wonders, if I could ever, possibly, maybe, let go of the past enough to really be with Luke if it could be me and him against the world.”

This was a fast paced continuation of Luke and Violet's story that has tons of reveals and hidden connections of characters. Sadly, I didn't love it.

description

These two characters found out last book that they are connected in the most bizarre way ever.

This story wasn’t all doom and gloom which I appreciate, although there still wasn’t any college football games, hot dates, classroom scenes or epic love scenes. We did get dirty gritty gambling scenes, crazy texts, a dead sister’s diary and some seriously CRAZY connecting of the dots as to Violet’s parents’ murders.

PLEASE write some happiness for this series characters! I will cry if Kayden and Callie’s next book goes back to misery and I don’t get some damn happiness already.

The couple heads to Vegas in this story (no bright lights, hot fashion, NADA ) they go to a warehouse for card games, so Luke can win back the money he owes some criminal back home. Anyway, they stay with Luke’s uncle and his cousin, Ryler (a pretty interesting character) and Violet and Luke seem to be getting closer. Violet tells Luke what has been happening to her in the two months (Preston - the horrible foster father)they have been apart since the big reveal in their first book.

Overall, I didn’t buy all this ‘coincidence’ of characters in the present being linked to the horror of the past --- so not believable for me.

description

Still, I like Luke and Violet and will be reading the next to see this murder investigation all wrapped up and these two getting some semblance of normal and finally enjoying being in love!!

Quick Review:

This book was a lot different than the previous ones. There was much more mystery (which was sometimes predictable), steamy scenes, and discussions of each other's pasts. The characters were still interesting even though they seemed stagnate and didn't really improve. When they did, it was because they had gotten worse for a short time. Overall there was a lot of action, suspense/mystery, romance, and sadness.

Full Review:

The book starts with both main characters having to deal with the fact that Luke's mom, Mira, might have been a part of the murder of Violet's parents. As a result, she leaves Luke and goes back to the angry Preston and back to the adrenaline rushes that are the only sources are relief despite Luke. Instead of an adrenaline addiction, Luke has started to rely on drinking and smoking. He's trying to make money gambling and is losing all interest in his life.

When night when he is gambling, his past is reopened when he sees Violet. He gets distracted and loses causing him to owe a lot of money to some bad people.

The rest of the book continues trying to get off of the hook and they go to Las Vegas. There more problems unfold with the money, their relationship, and the mystery of the Hayes case and who is trying to talk to Violet.

Like I said, there was a lot more mystery that everyone is trying to piece together. Violet is getting more upset and confused as they learn about the case and she is beginning to get desperate for information. What she gets though isn't expected which leads me to the next point.

There was a cliffhanger about what Violet is going to do and how she'll deal with it.

Luke knows that he has to be there for her and he has come to understand that. He has given her some more control and he has realized his feelings for her like she does for him. Violet still doesn't like to be weak but she isn't as angry about it with Luke anymore.

I liked some minor characters like Ryler. I wish that he would have some history cleared up since he hinted about a rough upbringing to Violet but then again he is only a minor character so he probably won't have a book about himself.

One thing that kind of bothered me while I was reading this was that Kayden and Callie were barely mentioned. When they were, they were vague and I had already forgotten things about them. I wish that they were more involved in this book like Luke was in the first too books.

Some of the action was predictable though and of course that couldn't be helped. Ms. Sorensen did a great job with making it less obvious and sometimes gives you hints to get you off track.

Since this is a more adult book, which I realized to late when I read the first book and got hooked, so therefore there are mature topics which you can just skip over.

I hope this helps and that you read this book!

Voglio, devo sapere come finirà!

A good continuation to the Violet and Luke saga. They grow up emotionally and I love how intense their connection is.

My major complaint is that this book is very short. Just over 130 pages but is sold for the same price as other full length books. It has a cliffhanger like all books from this author which is really getting annoying. Her writing is more and more financially driven, writing many parts of a series unnecessarily. And it had grammar issues and missing words.

I don't know if it's possible for things to get worse for these two. I seriously do not know. They have gone through so much and it's hard for me to imagine them ending up in even more trouble that they did here. Especially Violet. She's definitely got a lot to deal with and Luke, well, he's really going to need to get his act together.

One thing I really, really liked about this book was Ryler. He was awesome and reading about him makes me want to read Unbeautiful even more than I already do.

The ending makes me think that things might start to get better for these two, but it won't be easy. They have a lot to deal with. And they have a lot of demons to work out. Plus we have the whole thing with Preston/whatever his real name is. And there's Luke's issue with alcohol and gambling, and the stuff with his parents.

Another thing I really liked was seeing a bit more of Seth and Greyson (I'm so excited for their book!), though they weren't really in this that much. I just love them so much.

Still, this was a very good read. I love reading about characters who have issues and are trying to work through them (even if it takes a while). And this definitely worked for me. I'm looking forward to the final Violet and Luke book because it will be interesting to see how things work out for the two of them.

So I really enjoyed this book and it definitely lived up to the anticipation I was left with after the previous one. But, did anybody catch all the glaring grammatical errors? And there weren't just one or two minor ones, but it seemed to have one every page or so. Again, not just misplaced commas, but, "no" instead of "know," or an improper form of "there." It really took away from my experience. Needs better proofing next time. But still loved the story and can't wait for the next one!

Just when you thought things couldn't get worst for Violet and Luke there comes something else. This one wasn't as good as the first one, it started a little slow for my taste. I mean, it took me a while to read it versus any other JS book that I always read in a day or 2 tops.

I really do hope they get a HEA. I don't think theres another couple that deserves it more than them, they've been through so much.

This was a fantastic read. I really loved every minute of it. The story continues two months after the third book. Luke & Violet are still struggling with the revelation discovered in the third book. Violet has moved back in with Preston and he is still a creep. We learn more about him, which makes more sense to his creepy qualities. Also, I was fascinated to learn more about her mother. I was not expecting that information, but it made the story better for me. Luke is struggling as he goes through life drinking and gambling. He gets into some serious trouble after a poker game and he needs to make fast cash. He goes to Vegas with Violet to meet up with his Uncle Cole and cousin Ryler. Things don't go so well. He has to call his father to help him out. The ending was better than the third book. It is a cliffhanger, but this one seems to lead to a more well-developed plot for The Certainty of Violet & Luke. I can't wait to see how Violet & Luke's story ends. Overall, an incredible read.

I've had this on my tbr for a couple of years. I can't believe I remembered pretty much everything from the last book, usually I need some sort of recap. Then I remembered how sad and messed up everything is. I guess you can't forget about the hot mess Luke and Violet are. Hey, at least they're memorable characters! I'm moving on to finally finish this series after 3+ years. This is me, taking my tbr by the balls.

Luke and Violet are trying to deal with the fact that Luke’s mom might be involved in what happened to Violet’s parents, they are apart, Violet is back in the destructive home she left, she’s back dealing drugs and seeking the adrenaline rush, Luke is drinking and smoking again, he isn’t going to school instead he spends his days gambling in underground poker games.

And in one of these poker games he sees Violet again after a couple of months, things get a little crazy and Luke ends up owing a lot of money to the wrong people. So a trip to Luke’s uncle in Vegas is due.

I know it might seem silly but I was really yearning for these two characters to do something like this, I wanted to see their chemistry again, that spark that they had in The Destiny … and all of this and more happens in Vegas.

I really admire Jessica Sorensen for writing characters that seem so human, with problems that I’m sure many young people have, it takes a lot to put this problems into a book and have people respond in a positive way towards them, because yeah, there is that romance element to the book, but I think more importantly is about characters trying to get better, to leave behind all of the things that hurt them in the past, to start a new life, with new hopes and dreams.

And I think in this book, Luke more than Violet wants that, a new start, to be happy and to be with her, but for that to happen there needs to be a change and he is trying to change for her, it’s adorable how he supports her and protects her and I think that him realizing the coping mechanism that Violet uses to feel better is going to make a lot of difference in their lives.

Again we are left with a little cliffhanger and it just makes me want to go read the next book.

Keep Calm and Read On
