Scapegoat #2

The Hounded

Rate this book
Seventeen-year-old Alexander Evans-Lloyd and his friend Haroon Qubadi fight for Haroon's father who is unjustly accused of supporting terrorism. The teens are helped by Alexander's grandfather, Gilbert Evans and his friends (first met in The Price of Freedom). The Hounded creates a timely exploration of prejudice and the intersection of media, politics and religion. Richen weaves a tale of friendship and family that proves love and justice can prevail. A terrific choice for a book club and the classroom.

The second installment of the Scapegoat series manages to be an exciting work. The author has built a political thriller with a palpable tension that not only entertains but invites deep reflection on crucial issues for contemporary America. The story leaves a series of reflections on the impact of prejudice and how unfounded fears can destroy lives and relationships.

We are guided through the characters' experiences and inner conflicts by Richen, who has a remarkable ability for expressing their feelings. Each page reflects her capacity to explore difficult topics in a style that never loses pace or interest. I hope that it won't be long before we see something new from this author, whose writing not only deserves to be read but also discussed.

I had never read a political thriller before. I found the approach of this book very interesting, especially at this time when we are changing leadership in our countries. The author's approach is really very enriching for the culture, since in this installment he is talking about xenophobia and fear-mongering in the United States. In addition to this, the approach of living history through the eyes of young people fills this book with wisdom since it explains much more clearly so that we all understand the general idea of the text. I really liked this book, I think it is a valuable read if we want to strengthen our thoughts and criteria related to the politics of the United States.

Best of the best

This book exceeded every expectation I had. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the first book is one of my favorites but this second book is really much better and that's saying a lot.
What I liked the most is the way in which the protagonist must face his own inner demons and deal with issues such as loyalty, identity, manipulation and believing in his own instincts. Personally, I identified with many situations of the main character, I feel that this second book has a more mature and robust story where the protagonist struggles to find his own way in a world full of conspiracies. A very good book, I recommend 100% this saga.

Great Message

The story of paranoia, fear-driven scapegoating, and an obsession with power cannot be told often enough. The scenario is so familiar and is repeated in some way in every crisis. We Americans are all too quick to jump on the bandwagon, surrender to hysteria, and become unthinking mobs as so many of the characters in this book did. The story earned the book five stars. The telling only earned it three, so we compromised at barely a four.

Unless this book is aimed at middle-graders, the plot and the writing are too simplistic and stereotypical for my taste. The characters have no nuance and the dialogue is stilted and artificial. Great message, though.

Thank you to the author and publisher for my free Kindle copy of The Hounded, in exchange for an honest review.
This book does an amazing job at painting the picture of how communities and backgrounds can and do live together in harmony. The picture perfect community soon falls to the reality of our world and the devastation, hate, fear, community, love comes full and center to the reader. The book is thrilling and keeps you turning pages while showing the dark and light sides of the human mind. This is a definite read for anyone of any political stance.
