Someone to Love

Rate this book
Adam Southerland is the last man standing. His brothers and sisters have all found true love, and he’s still alone. It’s not by choice – not entirely. He wants one special person to come home to at the end of the day, someone to build a family with, but his job as a cop doesn’t make it easy. Until a pint-sized graffiti artist leads him to the woman he’s been dreaming of and the family he’s always wanted. Except busting Erica Braxton’s son for vandalism isn’t a great start.

After her husband died in Afghanistan, widowing her and leaving her young son without a father, Erica had to figure out how to pick up the pieces and rebuild her shattered life. She’s finding a path through her grief, but her son gets angrier and more self-destructive every day. The one ray of hope is the sexy detective who’s so good for her boy and so dangerous to her heart.

Erica and her son need a man in their lives and Adam wants the job. But she’s not falling for a guy who carries a gun. If she gives her heart away, it will be to a nice safe accountant or insurance salesman. With crime in the normally quiet town heating up and Erica walling her already wounded heart away, can Adam convince her to take a chance on them? Or will he be left alone again without someone to love?

From USA Today and New York Times bestselling author Evelyn Adams, Someone to Love is the anticipated conclusion to the much loved Southerland series, but it can easily be read as a standalone.

This series has been hit or miss with me. Some of the books are entertaining while others, like this one, were so bad it was almost uncomfortable to read. This is the only book in the series, however, I had to skim through. Adam and Erica had a fair beginning to their story which could have developed into something meaningful, but instead decided to move at warp speed. Had Evelyn Adams maybe played an angle where Adam became a mentor or such to Jake, then slowly developed feelings for his mom, I could have got behind it. Instead, he's grossly invasive on their lives and definitely oversteps on more than one occasion. I was going to scream if I had to read about his "sheepish" or "reproachful" looks one more time.

Adam and Erica

The last of the Southerlands, Adam first meets Jason, a future delinquent if things don't change. Adam is a detective in the local police force. He gets a call before dessert on Thanksgiving and yes he's not exactly happy about it. What he finds are a group of boys some who he knows well. The one he actually catches is a new kid in town. Adam decides to take Jason home and speak to his parents. What he finds is Erica a single widowed mother. the story unfolds from there. This is the last of the Virginia Southerland's story. Enjoyed the series.

This novel is poignant yet celebratory for Adam, Eric, Jason and Travis and concludes a wonderfully written series, about love and loss and finding the way back home. It is everything a reader wants in a series, satisfying narratives, well woven plots and characters that you feel you can pull up a chair and have a cup of coffee with. With the exception of Bailey 's story (which I found was too wordy and I really didn't feel the investment), I throughly enjoyed every word of this series.

Evelyn Adams "Someone to Love" is the eighth book in the Southerland Series is about the last Southerland brother who has watch his siblings find love. Adam Southerland, police officer, while the family gathers for Thanksgiving dinner, he goes out on a call of kids vandalizing a business in town. Adam is unable to see who the kids involved are when he sees those painting graffiti but when he is spotted, one of the kids he managed to capture. He finds that the kid is 11 year old named Jason Michaels.

Erica Michaels lost her husband in Afghanistan three years ago and has moved to be closer to Travis Southerland who was her husband’s commander and friend. When she comes home to find her son was not home, she goes out to search for her son, only to come home to find a very sexy policeman in her living room and was the bother to the man who brought them there.

Adam cannot help fall in love with Erica and her son. He continued to help Jason with cleaning the building that was spray painted and after that was done, he looked for other ways to spend time with him and his beautiful mother. Erica still grieving for her husband and was trying to help her son with his anger issues with losing his father. She does not want to be with a man who carries a gun for a living and leave her like Tim did but with Adam around so much she finds herself being drawn to him. Adam tries to make Jason see that his brother Travis can also be there for him and remember his father by the stories his brother can share.

Like all Southerland men, they know how to take their time in winning their women’s heart but will Erica’s heart be able to take a chance again with the possibility of losing a man the way she lost her first love?

Sorry this was the end of the Southerland series and cannot wait to read more writings by this author.

This is the last book of the Virginia Southerlands and is Adam's story. Adam is a police officer and he gets a call on Thanksgiving that something is going on downtown with some kids. Adam goes down and tries to sneak up on the boys, but ends of kicking a can so the boys all run. Adam catches one of the boys who happens to be Jason Michaels. He feels for the boy, especially after he tells him his father is dead. Adam takes Jason to his house and meets Jason's mother, Erica. She has moved there because her husband dies in Afghanistan. Travis, Adam's brother was the only one of the group who lives and Erica came to their small town to see if they could help her with her son. Adam invites Jason and Erica to his mother's house for dessert. When Jason and Erica first meet Travis, they are cold to him. The Southerland guys all take Jason to watch football with them and Jason has a good time.

Adam likes Jason and helps him to get the graffiti off the wall he and the other boys were painting. Adam also is attracted to Erica and ask her and Jason out to eat. Erica is leery because she does not want to get too close to someone that has a dangerous job and could get killed. She went through so much when her husband died, that she doesn't want to go through it again. Adam's family keeps pulling Jason and Erica in and makes them feel welcome. Read the book to see how their love story unfolds.

I love all the Southerland books and it was great seeing them again in this book. Sometimes Adam's twin, Blake, was over protective of Adam and his relationship with Erica. I like how patient Adam was with Erica and how their relationship grew. I throughly enjoyed the book. I was given a copy of the book for an honest review.

I thoroughly enjoyed this, the last book in the series. It is the story of Adam Southerland, and Erica Michaels. She is a widow with a young son, Jason, who Adam, a detective, catches when Jason is spray painting the wall of the town antique shop with a group of tearaways. Jason won't give him the names of the other boys, but when he finds out that the boy's father is dead he decides to make him clean up the mess rather than have a police record. Erica's husband Tim was a marine, in a unit commanded by Travis, Adam's brother. Travis was the only member of the unit who was not killed, and he was badly injured physically, and emotionally because of the loss of all the men under his command.
This is a very sweet romance, it is also about the healing of a young boy, going off the rails because he is angry about the death of his father. His part of the story is very sensitively told.
An enjoyable and satisfying story.

Last of the Virginia Southerlands stories. Adams is continuing with the North Carolina branch later this year. Adam is the detective, the one who never has time for a real life because work keeps him too busy. On a Thanksgiving day (Adam is working to allow the other officers family time) he finds a group of kids tagging a wall. The others run away and he catches one. Turns out Jason is the only son of a young widow, who - mother of all coincidences-was married to one of brother Travis' men who was killed in an IED attack.

Adam finds something sad in the kid and not bad. When he meets his mom, Adam is struck by her. there is a love story here, along with lots of anguish and anger about a faraway war, and carrying on alone. Guilt, sorrow and lots of other emotions roil around the love story but it is worth it. Good one.

I’m fairly new to the Southerlands and am enjoying them so much. Adam, as the last unattached member of his family is looking to settle down. Erica, a young widow who is new in town meets Adam through her young son. She also has a connection with the Southerlands through his brother. I’ve enjoyed reading about them getting to know one another and the issues that each one faces. I’m looking forward to going back to reading this entire series because this family is quite interesting.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I am sad that this is the last book in the Southerland series as I have thoroughly enjoyed each and every one of them. No spoilers from me, but I enjoyed how the characters in the family are so amazing. This book is about heartache, healing and love.
As always Evelyn has done a fabulous job and I really look forward to see what she brings to us next.

SOMEONE TO LOVE is the 8th book in Evelyn Adams' The Southerlands series. I have become a fan of this author and believe I have read almost all of her books. She never disappoints. This novel is about Adam Southerland, the cop, and the last of the Southerlands to find love. A good story and I love that Ms. Adams does a good job in creating and developing her characters. I suggest that you read this series in chronological order. It just makes getting to know all of the family a bit easier.

Another fantastic book by Evelyn. It was bittersweet to know this was the last of the Southerland men to find love and happiness.

How Erica and Jason came into Adam's life and the connection to his family. The free minor bumps just shows their love its strong.

Loved this series so much. Can't wait to see what Evelyn brings us next.

Everybody wants somebody to love especially Adam Southerland, born protector and cop who has seen each of his siblings find love. He is the last single Virginia Southerland until he meets widowed Erica and her son Jason. Can he convince Erica to push past her fears and doubts and allow them a chance at love? Another heart warming story by Evelyn Adams.

Adam Southerlands finally finds love

First of all I love a book I can't put down. Adam Southernland is one of the last of his siblings to find his one true love was a bit of a roller coaster ride. I'm glad Erica finally gives herself a second chance to live her happily ever after.

Thank you Evelyn Adams for writing another awesome romance novel on
The Southernland Family.

A good ending to a wonderful series. All the Southerlands have been matched up with their soulmates. Mrs Southerland, Mom, is surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Would love to see her have a second chance at love as well.
