Mentors are a huge part of the success of many people. They offer real life information that schools often don’t teach when it comes to building your career.
Polished is that – a mentor in a book that gives young professionals advice through the author’s past experiences, advice given to him, and observations of others’ success stories. The lessons learned are provided for the readers to give them information to carry as they begin walking down the path of their career.
It’s like a message in a bottle giving tips on professional conduct, dressing, networking, and many other facets that lead to your professional success no matter your career choice. The information provided will guide you toward success if you work in a fast food restaurant or working your way up the corporate ladder.
This should be required reading for college students EVERYWHERE in my humble opinion. Why, you ask? Oh I’ll tell you why. Polished provides young professionals and possibly even some seasoned ones wise counsel on navigating a successful path in the business world. It is broken down in a one on one mentor to mentee formulated style in which the author has set the pace with his first in a three book series and it holds two distinct themes. 1. Work on YOU (inside and outside) 2. PAY IT FORWARD Your character, convictions and style all play a part in the person you are. Polished wastes no time asking you to define ->Who you are AND ->What do you stand for, before diving into how you act and react to those around you. Chapter and topics contain advice for you to take pride in your personal appearance and discusses the importance of having a signature look.
As you progress in to the heart of the book; Purnell zooms in on building relationships, having mentors, networking, diversity, and focus. All the while touching upon various situations young professionals will find themselves in at many points in their career. Yet in all he maintains, never losing his grip on the importancy of paying it forward. 'We are not designed to just help ourselves' he says. A truth some often neglect...it will do us all good to take what we learn, all that knowledge with each experience we've gained and use it to help others along in their journey to success.
PS, there is a treasure trove towards the end that should not be missed!

Polished: A Young Professional's Guide for Success Outstanding guide for everyone but especially for those that have just started out. I met Calvin and learned about his book, purchased several for a group of apprentices that work for one of my managers. We have shared this with them and I have even asked them about different chapters. It is amazing how such a simple read has made such a profound difference. The team has stepped up the game, they are listen more, attention has improved, even attire has gone up especially when engaging with customers. They truly took the guidelines to heart and are now executing on them.
I have two mentee’s that are young professional’s and I am sharing this book with them for the holidays, as a thank you for them working and learning to be a success.
