Excellent look at the role of quilting in families and communities--strengthening bonds of kinship and friendship, celebrating rites of passage (such as the interesting tradition of young men making or receiving "Freedom" quilts), memorializing the dead. Covers early 1800s-1990s and shows many amazing quilts with fascinating stories. I only wish there could have been more close up photos!
