Redeemed is a touching historical fiction romance. Once again James takes us through the gambit of emotions, in this brilliantly penned adventure of Sara Fuller's struggle for survival and love in the historical mid-west. I was completely pulled into this book. I couldn't help but have it tug on my heart strings, make me laugh, make me cry and have me routing till the very end.
Although Redeemed stands alone, James includes the marvelous characters from the past Safe Havens casts then ties them beautifully into this story, giving us a bonus of continuing their journey as well.
A perfect balance of romantic tension, plot and pulse pounding steam...Redeemed is a scintillating must read.
Thank you Sandy James for this ARC copy of Redeemed in exchange for a honest review. This book is set for publication February 10, 2014.
Another great story for Sandy James. I really hope she continues this series. I'm so glad Caleb found his match. The cast of characters is as rich as always and the responses from the town is about what you would expect. The twists and turns in this story will keep you turning the pages.
Sara Fuller ran away from her past, her sordid past as a whore to her brother in White Plains, Montana. When a misunderstanding and not enough truths lands her right in the arms of what she thinks is a pre-arranged marriage by her brother Ty to Caleb, her savior. Heading right to the preacher she marries and her new life begins.
Caleb, a lonely rancher thinks his new mail order bride is arriving on the stage and assuming he has the right woman he quickly hustles Sara to the church to wed. Unknown to him though, this is not his intended, but a young girl with a raunchy past, a whore and a thief, he marries her and his new life begins.
But there are secrets Sara is hiding, but this dude, so in lust that he is, he doesn’t care about the past, he only cares about the future. But oh what tangled web we weave. Have you ever wondered if people back in the day were that naive, that dumb? Well, what we would now a day’s call dumb. It makes me wonder sometimes when I read about the old west if people were really like they are portrayed in our glorious romance books. Now I realize this is fiction but it seems like all authors go the same route where this subject is concerned. I understand about the hardships of life and can only imagine what life back then was like for some women. But it makes for good stories and the imagination of this author will not disappoint.
This was a good book as was the first two in this series. The story line is good but at the beginning I thought it drug just a bit. I was thinking, ok let’s get the story to rolling here enough of the bull. But then the author takes off with the story and it gets good. As a continuation sort of from the first two in the series, the characters feed over into this story. Although it’s a standalone and the author will fill you in a little bit about the previous characters it’s a good continuation.
The editing was good nothing really stood out that hung the book up and that’s always a plus with me. The new characters especially the women are all strong minded women, not afraid to do what they need to do to survive in the harsh land we call the old Wild West. However they can be dense sometimes and very secretive. But hey, can’t all us gals think like that at times? Now when the Caleb’s real intended mail order bride finally arrives in this little town the sparks start to fly and I’m really anxious to see if this author has continued with her story.
All in all though this entire set of three books in this series were all good and I loved the way the author has portrayed the characters, men and women. The men are tough on the outside, which they would have to be carving out their lives in the old days but they are tender and caring men that love and protect their families to no end. The women are strong willed and fierce lovers to their men and will fight a wild cat to protect their family.
There were love scenes of course, but very well and tastefully written. The author uses just enough of the right words to put the scenes in your mind as very tender and loving. I like this as I really do get tired of reading the really raunchy very verbal language during a sex scene. I really liked this author’s style.
I highly recommend this series for the ole west romance lovers out there. Good clean reads.
“Redeemed” by Sandy James is the third book in the Safe Havens series. I read “Saving Grace” and it was as good as this one, I recommend that you purchase and read all three.
Sara Fuller is employed at an establishment of ill repute in Denver. She is desperate to flee her life and start anew in another place. She gathers enough money to travel to White Plains where her brother lives. There she hopes to find a new life.
Caleb Young waits for each stage coach for his mail-order bride to come to White Plains to marry him. As Sara steps off the stage, he immediately assumes that she is that bride. Sara in turn thinks that her brother provided her with a groom so that she could start her new life. It is this misunderstanding that throws Caleb and Sara together for better or for worse. Believe me, they have a lot of both.
I enjoyed this book very much. Ms. James writes in a very honest, believable style. I will be looking for the other books in this series.
I was sent this e-book by Ms. James in return for my honest review at no charge to me.
What a great book!!!! This was a great ending to a wonderful series. I really enjoyed this book and this series. The characters and the storyline were wonderful, I could see and feel everything the characters were going through. I look forward to more books from this author.

Read this some time ago and realized I didn't review it. I thought the story was so-so but it wasn't something I liked enough to place on my reread list.

REVIEW: REDEEMED is the third instalment in Sandy James’s historical western, romance Safe Havens series set in the 1880’s countryside of Montana. This is Sara and Caleb’s story. Sara is Ty Bishop’s sister and Caleb is Gideon’s brother –who were both introduced in book two Runaway. Sara is on the run and heads to Montana where she is hoping to find refuge with her brother but finds love and a future with a stranger who believes she is his mail order bride. The novel advances the series approximately one year.
The storyline focuses on Caleb and Sara’s building relationship as well as Sara’s struggle to keep the secrets about her past-in the past. Her history as a ‘whore’ runs too close to a Caleb’s own family secret and when the truth is revealed Caleb leaves his young wife alone to struggle with tending the farm and a new born baby. He is a man who believes he has been manipulated and betrayed but not once did he ever consider the circumstances of Sara’s past. Caleb’s selfishness puts his young bride’s health at risk as she is determined to keep the farm running without anyone’s help.
The relationship between Caleb and Sara is quick to build; a quick marriage and acceptance but not once did we feel the love between the couple until it was too late. Caleb is a man who believes his new wife to be an innocent and Sara is a woman who knows that once the truth is revealed, she will lose everything including the man with whom she has fallen in love.
I did have one small concern and it seems to have prevailed from storyline to storyline-this is a small town where everyone is willing to help out those in need; newcomers etc but once they discover the secrets; the past or the truth, these people are quick to judge, take offense and push away. Not quite neighborly when things turn bad.
Most of the previous storyline characters are present including Caleb’s brother Gideon; Ty and Cassie; Grace and Adam. The story is well paced, easy to follow and introduces the next potential single male looking for love.
Sandy James has written an enjoyable, romantic series where one storyline flows into the next. With the inclusion of previous storyline characters, there is a familiar feel to the time, the place and the people. Although each book can be read as a stand-alone I would recommend reading in order.

This was an historical romance set in Denver and Montana in the 1880’s. It is the third book in the Safe Havens series but wasn’t my favorite for several reasons. The characters from other books did not have as big a presence in this book plus the story was significantly shorter.
Also, Caleb and Gideon were not my favorite characters throughout the series and they were front and center here although by the end of the book they each showed a different side to me. There were a lot of misunderstandings on both Sara and Caleb’s parts initially but they were able to see how that happened as they got to know each other and communicated more. Sara had a lot to work through from her childhood and how she was treated and it was heartwarming to see the strides she made with Caleb’s help even though she was harboring way too many secrets that I knew in the end would come out and hurt her and Caleb. It was nice to see how easily Sara was accepted by her new family.
There was family, friends, heartache, tears, laughter, hard work, secrets, patience, jealousy, their pasts, births, romance and love. There was a happily ever after that took a long time to happen due to how stubborn Caleb was and it was his jealousy in the end that took us there. There was closure but it was too abrupt for me. A few more chapters or an epilogue would have been nice.
I have enjoyed the two series I’ve read so far and look forward to reading more of James’ books.
This book was a bit more emotional and intense than the prior books. Another great couple and an interesting expansion of the world of White Pines. This place truly is a safe haven for all the folks that have found themselves there, including - very interestingly - Caleb's brother Gideon and partner Drew. I really hope they get their own book at some point.
I felt the climax of the relationship between the two main characters happened much too early and I just wasn’t that interested in the rest of the story to stay riveted. Perhaps just not my taste.
