Andrew is transported to another galaxy where the inhabitants are over six foot tall and live for 600 years. A mind transplant transforms him into Daniel for a while as he tracks down Daniel's killers and establishes Daniel's brother in his place. Patrick Tilley, an Essex man by birth, spent his formative years in the border counties of Northumbria and Cumbria. After studying art at King's College, University of Durham, he came to London in the mid-1950s and rapidly established a reputation as one of Britain's leading graphic designers.
This is a very cool read that I avoided for the longest time because I thought the name of the book was stupid.
When I got into it, it turned out to be extremely funny, very uniqe and original in the writings and goings on in a parallel dimension and the characters are all fantastically written and are people you actually care about.
Awesome read. A light hearted yet heavy hitting comedy sci-fi book.
While by no means Patrick Tilley's best book, Star Wartz nevertheless has a charm all its own.
Once you get past the silly title it dives headlong into interstellar travel and delves deeply into humanity's place amid the cosmos.
In many ways it represents the culmination of Tilley's earlier work in Fade-Out and Mission.
The characters are well thought out and the high tech is breathtaking as anything you might see in books by the likes of Greg Bear. There are even times when the writer's voice reminds one of Douglas Adams.
Don't come in thinking of Douglas Adams though that might be the closest comparison to for someone not deep in the genre. There's something fun and goofy here too, but also more serious and adult. Enjoyed it very much.
