Defining Joy

Rate this book
"Wondrous plans for the future. Ruth and Derek had those. Now, she was happy to simply get through the day. The future, the one that included a husband and kids and ideas like 'growing old together' was gone."

When Ruth loses her husband, she is forced to make some difficult decisions. Finally, in search of a fresh start, she decides to move to Ireland with her mother-in-law. She takes a job in a pub and quickly develops a friendship with the owner.

It is through that friendship and her journey of faith that she realizes God has a future and a hope for her. But knowing it and living it are two entirely different things.

"We all want to happy, don't we? It's a desire that's planted deep within all of us. We want to feel good, fulfilled, complete. And we humans, we call that being 'happy'. But life doesn't always leave us feeling good, does it? The goal of being fulfilled or even complete seem terribly elusive to most of us. So where does that leave us? How do we walk this journey called life and do it with a smile on our face?"

Dive into "Defining Joy" to discover the answers Ruth finds to those questions. Watch as her story unfolds on the glittering streets of Dublin and the rolling green mountains beyond. And celebrate with her as she discovers friendship love and, of course, joy.

If I could give this book a six-star rating, I would. Nicole M. Burrell starts off with a disclaimer that this book is a work of fiction. Though it may be fiction, I have to wonder how much of it is based on events that she may have actually experienced. She touches on emotions that I myself have experienced, and she has described those feelings flawlessly. From tragedy to joy, Nicole has detailed the journey that so many have had thrust upon them. Being a person of faith, I appreciate the many practical scriptural references that have been included throughout the story, for it proves that faith plays an important part in the healing process. I highly recommend this book for those who have lost a loved one, and for those who know someone mourning the loss of a loved one.
