DI Handford #1

Snares of Guilt

Rate this book
Rukhsana Mahmood is dead, found horribly battered. But who would want to kill a kindly young woman whose job as a visiting care worker made her loved and respected? Detective Inspector John Handford is assigned to the case. Along with Detective Sergeant Khalid Ali, who faces hostility and jibes of tokenism, DI Handford begins to probe possible motives for wanting Rukhsana dead. Hers was a mixed marriage, and her husband Amajit’s family make no secret of their pleasure at her death. But is this a punishment killing? Or was pleasant, quiet Rukhsana Mahmood betraying more than one person?

I wanted to read a book by this author as she came from my home town and the series is set in West Yorkshire. A pretty good detective murder mystery, very similar to many I’ve read before. An easy read which will appeal to those who enjoy this genre.

-Roman-

Auch wenn Roman draufsteht, ist es ein solider englischer Krimi, der mich sehr gut unterhalten hat.

WHY: When Rukshana Mahmood is found brutally murdered, suspicion first falls on the member of the Sikh/Muslim community - she and her husband had been shunned by both for their religious intermarriage. Detective Inspector is assigned to the case, but he is under a cloud after a racial incident in the past almost ruined his career. It seems a matter of appeasement when Paki Detective Sergeant is assigned to partner with him. The plot is engrossing, and the characterization well developed. The themes of racism, Sikh/Muslim, white/Paki, add another dimension. This will be a series I'm searching for.
