Some beautiful pieces of art; but the text of the book is next to worthless. A light overview of prevailing movements (religious, secular, style in art), lots of Biblical quotes and retellings of Bible stories, but nothing new or interesting or in depth enough to catch your attention. There are also many sections that refer to pieces that are either not in the book, or reproduced many pages later, so it's hard to get the few points the author makes if you aren't familiar with each piece he discusses. Get it to look at the art, but maybe look up another book to help explain the time periods and reasons behind the art itself.
