They want the same thing...and it could tear the team apart
A competitive pair...
Connor's played left side defense since he was a kid, and he's determined to get that top left side spot on the college hockey team this year. But Coach picks Luke, who's been a pain in the ass since their first year, and, on top of that, he pairs the two of them up!
Success on the ice...
Luke's not a big fan of Connor's either, but when the two of them tumble into bed, he has to admit it's not half-bad. Add that to the team's winning streak, and things are turning out better than expected.
But the cracks are starting to show...
When a rival team tries to poach Connor away, Luke realizes he has more feelings than he was letting on. Is it too late for their love to come into bloom? Or can Luke convince Connor that there's more to the two of them than a spot on the ice.

I liked the story, but the characterization seemed really shallow; the boys definitely acted like teens (19-ish) off the ice and played some really competitive hockey...but there was no distinction between them IMHO, and their "rivalry" wasn't all that contentious. Mostly it felt like it was in just the one character's head...
One great detail here shows up a couple times: the back-to-back away games. That's something that many hockey-themed books miss (or I miss noticing in the story).
That said, there's one glaringly incorrect detail: trading to a new school mid-year would mean a player couldn't continue competing during the current season. In fact, he might even have to sit out the following year as well due to academic residency requirements. Them's NCAA rules. Rules that suck...but still, rules. (And with a ton of exceptions, waivers, appeals, etc. that are so confusing in how they apply - but usually not for this one; this one is pretty much set in stone.)
Still, other than that? Meh, I liked the angry/pseudo-hate sex.
Couldn’t tell who these guys were. No personalities. More character development went to the side characters. I didn’t feel the relationship at all. The enemies part was more believable than the lovers. Too much telling, not enough show. Could not understand the transitions from scene to scene.
So if I followed the advice of most of the reviews, I never would have read this gem of a hockey rivals-to-lovers romance. And I would have missed a slow-burn, pretty realistic, intense-as-fuck tale of two defensemen, who vy for the same slot on the same team.
Connor and Luke are teammates who can't stand each other, except on the ice and in the bed. Their rivalry fuels their chemistry. Go figure!
Their sex is raw and their self-awareness is akin to watching ice melt when the temp outside hovers at the freezing point. But damn, the sex between these two should be read to Springfield's "Glory Days" or whatever track recalls your college years when hard mattresses felt like heaven.
Quick NA hockey story. Held my attention and didn't take long to read.
There were a few things that kept this from being 4-star read for me. The writing is okay but not great. It was hard to tell the guys part—the story flips between their points of view, and as the story went on, I sometimes lost track of whose POV I was in. The book is in first person present tense, which is my favorite, but I actually didn't like it here. It didn't gel with me, and I can't see why the author chose to use it. I thought some of the writing was confusing—things not explained well enough—and the editing wasn't great. And then one of my weirdest pet peeves, which I never think about until it comes up: when they had sex near the end, .
I do like that neither of them made a huge deal out of being attracted to guys. They both mostly just rolled with it.
By no means a bad story, just not perfect. Decent hockey, though!
Luke and Connor play in the same hockey team for their college. This year they both have good chances to be regulars, the only problem is that they are rivals and want to play for the same spot. When the coach choses Luke for the left side and puts Connor on the right one, Connor isnt happy and fights with Luke. Sometimes I found their bickering really interesting and amusing and I liked to see them together, and really wanted more of them. The only problem was that this book is really short and the author decided to talk more about Hockey than about the MCs feelings and developping relationship. It seems all rushed, how they pass from almost killing each other and arguing all the time or avoiding the other, to first giving each other hand jobs and then kissing at Matt's party then pass to mutual Blow Jobs and in the end have sex. This all starts when they are in the hotel room they will need to share for the first time and they argue. Luke wants to go to bed, but Connor asks him how can he be like that when they won the game and they should party also if the coach stopped the real party sending all the other guys back in their rooms. Connor wants to tease him and sits near him on the bed and Luke struggles to get out of it and in the end they get both aroused and Luke's hand ends up on Connor's dick and viceversa. This is the start of their relationship, and after that we dont see them talking about feelings but when we read about their thoughts we know that they still see each other as rivals but there is also much more going on btw them, and this shocks them. Their first kiss happens at Matt's party and is Connor to start it, but Luke gladly follows him and from that moment there is no coming back for them. All the time they are in an hotel room after a game they won with the team, they have a private party, where they have sex and watch stupid tv shows. They are getting fond of each other, also if neither puts a name on this feeling. All changes when one day Luke hears Connor talking on the phone. A rival team is offering him the spot he wanted and Connor tells Luke that he will think about that. Luke gets angry and tells him to leave their room. Connor doesnt understand why Luke is so angry, but after their game he decides to go back to their room and talk to him. Luke that had time to think has finally understood that he was so angry bcs he doesnt want to lose Connor that he has fallen in love with him. Connor finally understands and tells him that the thing that made him choose to not leave was Luke. Luke kisses him and finally confesses his feelings, and is the same for Connor. They are finally a real couple also if the team still doesnt know anything, but they will soon tell them.
Connor may have lost the spot he wanted, but he also lost his heart.
Like I said I like Luke and Connor, mostly their bickering and the fact that they were really hot together. Sadly there was too much hockey and less plot and I wanted/needed more attention on their feelings. Still I cant give less than 4 stars bcs I loved the enemy/rivals to lovers theme.

Connor and Luke are both sophomores who are trying out for the same position, and when Luke gets it and both of them have to be partnered as defensemen, Connor decides that he's going to make Luke's life more difficult. One night during an away game, Connor is excited about the win and he starts wrestling with Luke, which leads to more. When they realize that they don't hate each other anymore, Connor is thinking about leaving schools, and their true feelings come out. Another great couple and story!!
Note to self: - Dual POV - Its a novella (very short) - It ends with the two men finally realizing they're falling for each other (It would have been nice to have an epilogue or something)
