“People say to appreciate the life you have because things can always be worse, but how can you do that when your life is the kind everyone else compares theirs to in order to make themselves feel better? I hoped and prayed so many times for as long as I can remember for things to be different, for my life to be different, but when it finally happened, and my life changed, I didn’t know if it was a blessing or a curse.”

Jet Flanagan grew up under the shadow of his father, a kingpin determined to bend Jet to his will by any means necessary. He’s been forced to distance himself from anyone he might care about to keep them safe and that includes high school sweetheart, Evie Adams. He did what he thought was right to protect her, but when she comes back into his life by chance almost a decade later and sets off a life-changing series of events, he’ll be forced to deal with the collision of the life he knows and the life he should’ve had.

Stephanie Summers is a paranormal and contemporary romance author. She graduated from West Virginia University with a degree in accounting, though writing is her true passion. Stephanie seemed to always have a story or two or ten running around in her mind. At the ripe old age of 30, she finally decided it was time to put aside the thought that she didn't have what it took to write a novel and began writing her first story.

She has since written her first paranormal series, The Willow Creek Vampires Series, with Craving (Book #1), Haunting (Book #2), Awakening (Book #3), and the short companion story, The Bludworth Chronicles: Origin, available now. Her short story, Love Forgotten, was chosen to be published in Stardust: A Futuristic Romance Collection, and another short story, Saved by the Bear, is available now. Her contemporary rock star romance, Take Me On, was released in 2015, with the sequel, Take Me Home, released early in 2016.

I LOVED this book! This is the first thing I've ever read by Stephanie Summers but I'll be looking for more in the future. It starts as a high school romance between Evie and Jet. But because Jet's father is a crime lord, Jet knows he has to leave Evie so that she won't get hurt. After 10 years, they meet on the side of the road when Evie's car dies and Jet stops to help her. This book is the story of their fight to be together.

These characters are so well developed! I cared about them right away and wanted them to be able to work things out. It was also easy to not like Jet's father, Niall. In such a short novel (308 pgs.) Summers did a fantastic job of character development. I really hope she has a sequel, I would love to see the rest of Jet and Evie's story!

What an unexpected pleasure this was! This started a little slow for me, but it picked up and I'm so glad I read it ☺

Jet and Evie met in high school and fell in love. However, Jet's hone life was not the best and he broke up with Evie to protect her. Both of them suffered. Flash forward about 10 years and they run into one another. The feelings are still there. Can they make it work this time?

There were lots of twists in this that caught me unaware. I loved it!

I loved this book...it grabbed me from the get go, I loved the dynamic between Jet and Evie they were off the charts and I loved the flashbacks to the past where you get a true feel for the depth of feeling between the two.

This book has lots of facets a love story that comes from heartbreak, the suspense element to get to the full truth within multiple aspects of the story and a great cast of secondary characters both good and bad to give the story depth.

All in all this was a great read and my first but definitely not my
last from Stephanie Summers

"Jet was a senior and the most beautiful boy I'd ever seen. I met Jet in study hall my junior year of high school. He was a little bit goth and just edgy enough to stand out from all the other boys who seemed to blend together."

But that is until Jet broke Evie's heart disappearing from her life without a word. And a chance encounter years later bring the two back together.

This book was really pretty good. It was my first book to read by Stephanie Summers and would love to read more by her.

The story line really intrigued me and loved the mystery, drama, suspense and romance through out the book. : )

"Jet Flanagan grew up under the shadow of his father, a kingpin determined to bend Jet to his will by any means necessary. He’s been forced to distance himself from anyone he might care about to keep them safe and that includes high school sweetheart, Evie Adams."

I gave this book 4 iScream Books Stars. One of the main reasons I just couldn't give it a 5 Star rating is in the beginning, the book was sooo freaking good, it had me sucked in. Then out of the blue when Jet left, I had a hard time with how much Evie fell for Jet and she was "Madly in Love" with him, but you never got that story in the beginning. You did see how they were falling for each other, flirting.. you know..teenage stuff, but bam, he was gone and she was soooo in Love and sooo Heartbroken when he left!! There were flashbacks in the book from each character, but really I felt I was soo lost I had to go back and read the beginning of the book again to see what I missed. Anyway, after all, I did love it and gave it 4 Stars!! The rest of the book was very bad ass and kept me turning those pages. I also want to say that I love the model on the cover of this book..He is really a perfect Jet for me!!

I really liked the beginning of this book. Jet and Evie meet in high school and form a friendship that leads into them falling in love. Then you discover that Jet leaves Evie out of the blue with no explanation and their love is interrupted. From Evie’s perspective they were so in love it brought her to her knees when he left. I really wished we could have read more about them falling in love because it kind of fell flat. I did like the twist and turns in the story but it felt rushed. I think if some things had been elaborated in the story and a bit more depth I would have rated this higher. I did love the authors writing style and as I said the beginning hooked me right away. I would definitely read another book by this author.

Young Adult. Dark Romance. Crime.

Takes a little time for this fire to build and blowback on you. Chapter one was a bit choppy for me, past that, the story evened out to a certain degree. Jet and Evie have a lot of history, which is told in flashbacks throughout the book. Not my preferred style, as I find it interrupts my reading flow. True to the title, once this story fully heats up, it is explosive! The action scenes are intense and some of the best written aspects of the story for me. Clutching that kindle tightly.
Jet and Evie were both high school sweethearts. The reason for their relationship ending still stands between them. These lovers are not in a good position. Largely because Jet makes some odd choices. In my opinion, Jet allowed himself to be under another's thumb, he is being emotionally blackmailed. This didn't work for me as I do have a preference for a more Alpha Male in my book boyfriends. The fact that Jet is a brawler and alleged killer led to further confusion at times, as I felt he already knew the solution to his problems.
Evie does fall victim to doormat syndrome, or the D is just that good. Either way, Evie let the sisterhood down at times. She did so in ways that continue to add to her own misery. Yikes! I cannot fully explain without spoiling the story, you have to read it to see what she does.
Overall I would recommend this book to readers who like a certain level of angst. Although both characters are 26&27 they failed to fully mature seemingly due to their failed love affair and resulting heartbreak. They act as though they are frozen in time when together and still 16&17. There is a very youthful tone to how they think and apply reason. The story has a young adult feel. Coming of age story for a man who grew up with a criminal as a father and saw no other path.

Loved this second chance story that gripped me from the beginning. Didn't take me long to read as I could not put it down. It was full of love, family loyalty, heartbreak, passion, guilt, forgiveness, and violence. Everything to keep you hooked and turning the pages.

Jet and Evie meet in High school and fall in love, Jet leaves Evie out the blue and they are not reunited until they bump into each other 10 years on.

I did love the twists and turns that went on through the book. Some you could guess but the ending twist really surprised me and I loved that!

Only criticsm I would have is the beginning, you got the story of them falling in love but not him leaving and it falling apart till much later and even then it was only briefly covered. I would have liked to know more and this is what stopped me giving it 5⭐️I think their love story at he beginning just deserved a bit more to understand why from Evie's PoV she was brought to her knees. I would also have liked to known more about her marriage to Preston.

I think I fell in love with ‘reunited love’ the day I read Persuasion by Jane Austen. There’s something about past love that warms the heartstrings. As Blowback opens, a true love story begins—the kind that has you desperate to read and understand what happened to two people who obviously loved each other. The novel is intermixed with the past and present, giving you a taste of Jet and Evie’s love story and how fate turned a blind eye against them. They are blessed with a reunion that leaves them both confused and wishing to understand the pain and lost years.

Evie grew up surrounded by a loving family, while Jet endured an atrocious father, a man that makes Satan appear like the father of the year. Jet is a true fighter—no, more accurately, a survivor. I don’t want to give too much of the story away because… well, because there are too many layers, and too many twists and turns, taking you straight into a life-and-death moment. This novel has it all—romance, a hot hero, humor, great dialogue, a strong leading lady, and most of all… a satisfied feeling at the end. I highly recommend Blowback.

Roller coaster ride of guessing! Full of twist & turns you never know what's coming!
I’m not a huge crime book fan but this definitely had my attention from the start. It’s a second chance romance that kept you on the edge of your seat & you didn’t want to put it down until you finished it. Jet & Evie met in high school became friends & then a couple. To protect Evie from his life, Jet walked away after his graduation breaking her heart. Ten years later, a chance encounter, Jet realizes it’s time for him to take control of his life & get out from underneath his dad. This story is a roller coaster ride that will keep you guessing with so many plots, turns & twists that you never know what’s coming. These are the kind of books, that are made for tv series or movies! -read by RazzReader with Pop Fizz Clink Read

This book is what I call "ripping off a bandaid." You do not have to wait for a big built up of the characters...rip. You do not have to wait for secrets to be revealed chapters later...rip. It's a cause and immediate effect. The story centers around Evie and Jet who meet young and through a tragic life Jet disappears...only to reenter Evie's life a decade later. The story moves quickly with alternate points of views. You get to see the story through Evie's eyes and Jet's. It's a perfect balance of story telling. Without giving too much away, I loved the flashbacks the characters have as adults. You did not have to read their childhood all the way to adult hood. The book allows you to flashback on the important events that changed their lives. I enjoyed this page-turner and look forward to reading more work by this amazing author.

Blowback was a great read! I liked that Jet and Evie had a history from high school before they meet again years later.

Evie was in love with Jet until he went away without explanation and then got engaged. So when he comes to her rescue alongside the road one day, she makes it clear she doesn't appreciate him back in her life.

Jet is a bad mother trucker whose dad is in charge of the local criminal element. And Jet is one of his enforcers. Niall tells him who and when and Jet makes it happen - however that means. Jet comes across Evie - his one true love - and he decides he has to get out from under Niall's thumb and take his sister with him.

There are so many twists and turns with this book that you never see coming. It kept me guessing!

I really loved this book, it sucked me in and kept a hold of me till the last page then I was left wanting more. the characters just worked really well and the dynamics between them worked really well within the story. this story contains flash back sections which helped you to understand the emotions of the characters. this book has two important sections to it, firstly is the romance and second is the suspense element, which when brought together make this a fantastic read. I cant wait to read more by this author in the future.

Evie and Jet's story starts off slowly with a few flashbacks that give some insight to their teenage relationship. Once the story gets going, the action and tension are non-stop. There are some surprising revelations that lead up to a great ending.
