The Pres’ Daughter & The Best Friend

Dalton Barnett

Dalton Barnett knew the moment he kissed Mandy’s lips as a teenager that she was the only one for him. Taking her for granted has been easy because she’s always been there. She’s the only person who’s ever given love to him unconditionally.

Amanda Walker

The Heaven Hill MC has always been a safe place for Mandy Walker. Since being adopted by their President, she and her twin brother have been able to count on them for anything. The ragtag group of men and the women who love them became the family the twins never had.

Having grown up under their protection, she’s finding it hard not to run to them with the problems she has now. One reckless night with her love of more than ten years resulted in one positive pregnancy test.

The problem?

Mandy is faced with a dilemma she never thought she’d fall victim to. Being a single mother, just like her mom was until Liam Walker came into their lives.

When a calculated attack devastates Heaven Hill, Dalton, Mandy, and their unborn child are at the epicenter. Dalton must make decisions to keep his small family safe. Before anything worse can happen, he knows he must shield their hearts.

Shield My Heart is one of those books that I really wanted to read yet at the same time was a little afraid to do so. Why? Because Dalton was a tool in Home Free, I didn’t like the way he treated Mandy at all. And for a fair bit of this book he continued to jerk Mandy around a lot, but this time the author gave us the whys and wherefores of his thoughts and actions by letting us into his head. So I ended up liking Dalton a lot more than I thought I would have, but just wish he had grown a pair and manned up and stop taking Mandy for granted a lot sooner than he did. That said, he gave good grovel and really worked to make it up to her once he pulled his head out of his backside.

Mandy confused me. I didn’t get the strong woman act one minute then being a doormat for Dalton the next. She let Dalton get away with way too much for way too long and just accepted the scraps he threw her way when it suited him, or when he needed his Mandy fix. This constant push and pull frustrated me, I just wanted them to TALK and get it sorted.

A huge plus for me was seeing Drew being all alpha and protective over Mandy, I love how they were always there for each other. Getting to revisit with the rest of the HH gang is also always a bonus, and I’m sad to see the series come to an end.

Slick's review posted at Guilty Pleasures Book Reviews

When author Laramie Briscoe asked me to read the first book in her Heaven Hill series, Meant to Be, and be completely honest with her about it I took her words to heart and I did and now eight books and a couple of novellas later, Shield My Heart is the last full length book in this series. It's hard to say good-bye to the Heaven Hill MC, their significant others and the children they bore, but I feel like this book is the logical conclusion to this series and I applaud her for ending it on a high note. Through high school, through their 20's and now almost thirty Mandy Walker and Dalton Barnett have been an item; an on again off again item, but an item none the less. We've seen bits and pieces of their relationship throughout the other books, but in Shield My Heart we really get a good look at their somewhat dysfunctional relationship and what keeps them together, but more than that we see a woman determined to make the best of her life no matter what and a man trying to do the right thing even when it might not actually BE the right thing. This book was a bit of an emotional roller coaster on many different fronts, but it was also engaging and hard to put down.

Since high school Mandy Walker has known that Dalton Barnett was the one for her, but they've had their ups and downs and lately they haven't had much of anything so when Mandy realizes she's pregnant and Dalton goes radio silent she knows that she'll do anything to make the best life for her and her baby regardless of his involvement.

Throughout this series I've always liked Mandy but I always worried about her in that I never felt her Mom was the best role model for her. At times I felt like she was a bit lost in her life and that the reason she stayed with Dalton was because he gave her the feeling of security she had always lacked in her life. Mandy is pretty self reliant, has a good job and her own place and she's had Dalton by her side for over a decade but Dalton has never given her all of him and now that she's pregnant she knows that she can accept no less. While Mandy loves Dalton with all her heart, she also has come to realize that she needs more from him than he's willing to give and for that I admire her because she won't take anything less for her and her unborn child.

I'll be honest when I say that Dalton has been an a$$ to Mandy on more than one occasion and especially after she found out she was pregnant. I get that he's dealing with some personal issues and that he feels that by distancing himself from her he's keeping her safe, but in reality he should also know that criminals don't work that way. More than once in this book I wanted him to think and be smarter. I get that his childhood wasn't great and I understand he has issues stemming from that, but I hated that he felt he couldn't trust the woman he's been with since his teenage years, his best friend or the man he considered a mentor with his problems and let them help.

One thing I respected greatly about Mandy and Dalton was their refusal to talk about what was going on with their relationship with other people. While I think Mandy did it out of pride of not wanting her friends and family to know how bad things had gotten and also to spare Dalton from being in an uncomfortable position with the MC and at work; Dalton did it because he didn't feel it was anyone's business but his and Mandy's and they needed to work it out between them. There was no doubt Dalton felt he wasn't worthy of Mandy and he refused to see that she loved him no matter what his issues or his past.

This book was definitely more character based and focused on these two working through everything to find their way to each other and while we did see quite a bit of Mandy's family and the rest of the MC their relationship was the focus. My one complaint is I felt like there was a MC problem that was left wide open and I felt like a better conclusion to that situation needed closure. Regardless, Shield My Heart was an emotional journey and it was nice to see two people who'd been together a long time, figure out how to work at their relationship, grow more confident in their abilities to be there for each other and love and accept one another completely. Well done!

LEEANN'S REVIEW
4 STARS

I have absolultely loved the Heaven Hill MC Series so far & it is fitting that the last book in this series is about the Presidents daughter Mandy.
Mandy was raised by her single mom up until the age of 13 When her mom met her dad who is also the president of the local MC, Liam.
Single parenthood is not a position Mandy ever thought she would be in, but she is now facing the possibility of that very scenario.

Dalton has a crappy childhood until he and his brother were taken in by their uncle. He has had no clear male role model until he joined the
Heaven Hill MC & Liam showed him what it meant to be a good man.
Now he has found himself in a position where in order to keep Mandy & his baby safe, he is forced to walk away from them with no explanation.

This story is about a young woman in love and a misguided young man who doesn’t believe he deserves her love.
There weren’t really any funny moments in this book, the tone is deliberately more angsty and emotional. It was very easy to empathize with Mandy’s
situation and feel for her. Because she is unaware of many of Daltons insecurities and what is going on with him, she has had all of her choices about her
life & the life of her unborn baby taken away from her. On the other hand you can see very clearly where Dalton is coming from. In no way does he want
any harm to come to the woman he loves more than his own life or his unborn baby.

Lucky for these two they have Liam who is really everyones voice of reason. He has the ability to see things for what they are and put things into persepctive.
Something Dalton wants to learn how to do. With the right guidence Many & Dalton hae the ability to go on to have a happy healthy relationship.

As with all the Heaven Hill MC sorys this one is filled with angst drama & some suspence. This book is the perfect fitting end to the series and well
worth one clicking and having a read!!

"Amanda Walker was the only woman he'd ever been with, the only woman he'd ever loved, and the only person he'd every truly let into his heart"

I received a copy in exchange for an honest review.
As a fan of the Heaven Hill MC Series,I was excited to read Mandy and Dalton's story-from previous books, they have been 'together' since teenager's and now 10 years into their lives the relationship is starting to suffer, mostly down to how Dalton is dealing with it(or not).
Mandy is pregnant, and Dalton's own fears/insecurities that all come from his childhood issues(parents not the greatest-his Uncle takes on him and his brother) he feels he is not worthy of Mandy or their unborn child.(foolish man!)
Just to add to that, his Uncle's gambling problem, has resulted in unwanted attention from a character who poses a threat to not only them but the Heaven Hill Club itself! Dalton, thinking he can keep both Mandy and the Club safe, does what he thinks is the right thing to do-and pulls away from them.Everyone in the club knows something is up with both Mandy and Dalton, friendships are tested, the 'threat' does affect the club but, thankfully,it is resolved, and in turn Dalton comes to his sense's and gets his head out of his a** and get the HEA that he and Mandy deserve!

"Everything has been for you" (Dalton)

When reading this, right from the dedication,I felt it an emotional read, the Heaven Hill family have become a favorite, and I am looking forward to the Heaven Hill Christmas, and the next generation (all about the kids)-esp Tatum/Remy ;)

This is part of a series... in fact this is book 9 of the series, I would seriously suggest you do not try to read this without reading the rest of this series, cuz lets face it that's just plain crazy!

Mandy and Dalton..... we knew when book 8 ended they were having some issues... but we didn't know what they were. Mandy, after being with Dalton for 10 years is waiting.... waiting for more, more to this relationship they have. Dalton has realized just how much he loves Mandy, so much that he is willing to give her up to keep her safe. Will they make it to the other side of all the drama that is going on? Or will they just give up?

So I noticed in book 8 that the 10 year jump messed with the timeline but it didn't really bother me... well in this book it drove me crazy!!! The twins are 28, there is no way that Tatum is 17, Liam and Denise have only been together for 15 years. I can't even tell you why this bothered me so badly it just did. I ended up having to give this 3.5 stars.

For most of this book I was so frustrated with Dalton and just wished he would get over himself. But was equally irritated with Mandy trying to keep herself together without the help of her family and desperately hanging on for when Dalton would come around for more than a booty call. Of coarse all ends well and of coarse there are babies!

I whipped through the previous books in this series during the early part of this month in preparation for the release of this one and while this might be book nine! I have to say that it didn’t suffer for being this far into the series, the book stands tall not only as a separate entity but within the context of the series as a whole, I think I got more out of it by having read the previous novel, but the decision is yours.
I had my doubts about whether I was going to find what I wanted and needed from the story and that was primarily down to the fact that having had Dalton appear in a previous book, I couldn’t honestly put my hand on my heart and say that I liked him very much, he was a bit of an ass.
And initially, at the very onset of this book, I had that sinking feeling because it didn’t appear that he had changed his ways, he was still giving Mandy far too much attitude and if I could have reached into the kindle and given him a good hard shake, I would have done so willingly .
I was wavering a little as to whether or not this was going to turn itself around but I should have had more faith because the author was a little more accommodating than that, the way she wrote his story was almost as if she had pulled up a chair in the corner of his mind and was inviting me to take a seat. A ringside view to see not only who he was but why he did the things he did and by doing so, by being able to get inside his head I found that the guy I thought I knew was nothing like the real man at all.
I was still a little wary of the man but I will admit that he came good in the end, Yes he wasn’t always a nice guy, Yes, he gave Mandy more attitude than he needed too but it all added to the journey that were on and anyway it made the making up all the more interesting!
Mandy on the other hand, I was seriously losing the will to live with, dear lord woman stand up to him. She frustrated me so much, the fact that she just let him treat her as if she didn’t matter…I was hollering at her to find her self respect. I didn’t like the fact she almost allowed herself to wither and took whatever was on offer not what she deserved and she did deserve a darn sight more than she got.
Their relationship was at a crossroads, they had a decade behind them but would they make it any further, would they see that they had to give more to make it. And when push comes to shove, what exactly is Dalton willing to do to keep her safe?
There was drama in the story, not enough for me to call it out and out angst but certainly enough drama to keep be glued to the page.
Oh and Drew, way to go man!

Here we find ourselves in the last book of the series. In this book we'll get Mandy and Dalton's story. This should be a good book, I have been waiting to read Mandy's story for a while now. Glad to see she's finally got it! At the end of the last book, we saw Mandy get some news and text Dalton about that news, but he never replies. We pick up in this book at that point. What do we find out is going on? Why does Dalton not answer her texts? I can only imagine what she is thinking at this moment. It is hard to watch as the MC and Mandy both struggle with Dalton's pulling away from everyone. Everyone is puzzled by what's going on and how tight lipped he is being and the fact that he has not talked to anyone about anything. Wow, Dalton goes to see someone that I didn't think was around, though it doesn't surprise me that the person he went to see is where he is. Was that person able to help him locate his Uncle? Or is that even why Dalton goes there? Why is it that the Heaven Hill boys always think that by keeping secrets to themselves and hurting their loved ones that they're keeping them safe? Why have they not realized by now that secrets are what get people taken, killed, raped, etc.? Who is Calvert? What does Calvert have to do with all this? Who is Samuel? What is his part in the stuff going on? What happens when all the ladies suddenly 'disappear' and the men in the club start getting calls from 'friends' of the club about seeing the ladies taken? Where are they? Who has them? What is going on? When Mandy and Dalton finally manage to make things work and Dalton puts aside his fears, there is an HEA to be had. This is one book you are not going to want to miss. Start at the beginning and make your way through! I look forward to the upcoming Christmas Novella!

What do you do when the love of your life, the father of your unborn child basically abandons you with no explanation? You attempt to put your life in order and do what needs to be done. You prepare to follow in your own mothers footsteps and raise that baby alone.

What do you do when the past rears its ugly head and threatens the love of your life and now...your unborn child? You abandon them for their own good because sometimes, they are just better off.

I was exceptionally nervous when I first stared down at this book on my Kindle, for many reasons. The big one being that this is the final full length in the Heaven Hill series. No one wants to see the end of a beloved series. The other main reason lied within the characters themselves. In past books that we have been introduced to, I had a bit of a time swallowing Dalton and the way he treated Mandy but I also had a hard time seeing Mandy just...except it.

Thankfully, Laramie worked her magic and made those turbulent feeling subside. Granted, I still felt an unlike in a way about Dalton but given a more in depth explanation, I can understand why he did, what he did. And I believe that Mandy allowed him to take advantage of the fact that she would always be there.

This is my confession: Shield My Heart is one of those books that no matter what you feel about the characters, its still a great book - for that reason. It takes a talented writer to be able to invoke a menagerie of feelings in her readers and still manage to perfect that book.

I have to say I was excited about Mandy and Dalton's story. I couldn't wait to see what happened and where Laramie took us next on the journey with these hot a$$ alpha males and their equally hot and brilliant women!

Mandy is Drew's twin sister so we have seen her growing up alongside Drew and then later on in the series Dalton and Charity. I loved the fact we got to see their story develop before we got their actual book.

Mandy and Dalton have been having a hard time for the past few months, Dalton has been pulling away from her and she can't figure out his reasoning for it.

Dalton p!ssed me off big time, I wanted to jump into this book and slap him silly at times. I understand he struggled because of his childhood but he should have been open with Mandy.

Many also p!ssed me off at times, she gave in and forgave Dalton far far too quickly. I would have made him suffer for what he put her through.

I have felt like I've lived each of these stories myself, I get completely sucked in and feel every single emotion each character feels. There were times in this story I felt my stomach drop straight to my toes and my heart going along with it and then other times I was so mad I felt the need to scream. That's the epitome of a good book in my opinion and this has definitely been a series I would recommend. I really hope we get Tatum and Remy's story, I can't wait to see what trouble she will cause and also see some more from my favourite Heaven Hill people!!

Shield My Heart by Laramie Briscoe follows Liam and Denise's daughter Mandy and her love Dalton. Throughout this book both Mandy and Dalton have to take some hard looks at themselves and their relationships. They have to both decide to overcome their fears and find a way to be together when there are multiple forces pulling them apart.
What I loved about this book was we got to see two sides of the story from both Mandy and Daltons perspective. Also, you get to see how others who are close to them view their relationship, which is especially important when looking at Mandy's relationship with her twin brother Drew. He so protective of his sister but Dalton is his best friend and you really see how this situation they are placed in effects everyone.
Laramie Briscoe's series Heaven Hill is defiantly one to read if you are looking for a MC Romance with Loving Alpha Males and strong women. You get glimpses in to couples from previous books and the interactions among the characters always seem very authentic.

I am a huge fan of Laramie Briscoe and the Haven Hill series. I have been eagerly awaiting Shield My Heart to read Dalton and Mandy's story, since reading Home Free.

Dalton had a very difficult childhood that has influence the person he has become. his past haunts him and it's made him insecure about his ability to be a partner, friend, lover and father.

Dalton and Mandy have been together since they were teens, and when their relationship becomes a tad rocky, everyone has an opinion and advice to share.

Mandy is such a strong loving woman with a big heart.

I loved this couple separately in the other books in this series, but loved them even more together.

This book had a bit less of the MC conflict/drama I've come to expect from this series, but it didn't detract from the story. I was thoroughly engaged and read Shield My Heart in one sitting. I cannot wait to read more from Laramie Briscoe!

It is never easy to say goodbye to love it series

First of all I need to say that I am a fan of Laramie Briscoe and I flove Heaven Hill MC.
I am greatly disappointed in this, the last installment of the original Heaven Hill MC family. I was 45 to 50% into the book and hated Dalton & Mandy so much I almost didn't finish. They were whiny & repetitive. But give Ms Briscoe the benefit of the doubt and soldiered on.
By the end of the book, certain issues were resolved whereas others were not. The couple did, in the end, get their happily ever after. However, there was no resolution with the antagonist in the story. This man threatened the Heaven Hill MC and this was the last book of the series, outside of novellas. What the hell?
I agree that Heaven Hill MC did get weak.
I absolutely hate writing this kind of review

Another FANTASTIC book by Laramie Briscoe!! Dalton and Mandy are a couple worth routing for. I have always loved the Heaven Hill series and the motorcycle club that is a full on brotherhood. This book is a testament to that. It is impossible to go at difficult situations alone, but when you are part of a brotherhood, the possibility of success increases. That said, I LOVED THIS BOOK!!! This is my most favorite quote..."Your childhood will never change because it’s already happened, but the future is something you can change." I would stongly recommend reading this book, it's better after reading all the other books in the series, but it is definitely worth reading!!! Laramie is an awesome author, and her books are always at the top of my reading list!!!

Amanda Walker and Dalton Barnett are still together 10 years after they got together as teenagers. Dalton overhears something he wasn't meant to at Wet Wanda's and has to figure out how to handle it. He refuses to drag the club into his personal business so he takes a leave of absence and pulls away from Mandy when he feels like they've gotten too close. Little does he know what Mandy finds out is going on in their lives. Dalton wants nothing to do with Mandy until he figures out his life and what craziness is going on in it. Can Dalton figure out everything before it's too late? Find out in this AWESOME READ!!!

Oh Mandy. How I adored her. Raised in the MC life and heart given over to one of those brothers who happens to be the only man for her. I loved that they were childhood sweethearts who even though they had some bumps along the way were soul mates. Now I wanted to give Dalton a shake or two along the way, but I had to believe he would turn things around. I was right. The man decided to fight for her heart and their family in every way possible. I so enjoyed their story.

I give Shield My Heart 5 hearts!

This is the last book in the series, and I have not read any before this one. I felt there might have been somethings that lead into this book. Characters introduced etc, but for the most part I felt ok reading this one alone. I didnt feel like I was specifically missing something. This is Mandy's story, and I know many said they had been waiting for this. I definitely felt connected to the characters. I enjoyed watching this couple behave as real couples would. They didnt fix their problems, then wham all was good.

Dalton and Mandy finally get themselves together.

Dalton has doubts about himself that keep him from doing the right thing. Mandy loves him but she has to think about more then herself. When Dalton finally gets his head straight, he and Mandy start to work through things together. Heaven Hill is on of my favorite series. This story puts the final conclusion to Dalton and Mandy's story, that have been bits and pieces through the other books. The only thing I had a problem with was the whole kidnapping that made no sense. But other then that the story was good.

This was such a good story for Mandy and Dalton. I enjoyed as a reader watching this couple grow into themselves as well as each other. The pair had real issues that at times was hard to watch the work through but it made them stronger. The plot moved along and I enjoyed the appearance of all of the other characters from this series. I truly enjoyed this book from start to finish and would recommend it to others.

Ms. Laramie Briscoe did it again!!! This was an amazing ending to such a wonderful series.

In this book we got Mandy and Dalton's story. From the get go I was on such a roller coaster of emotions, from happy to angry to extremely pissed off to sobbing and then finally to a HEA... If you have not read this series, please do yourself a favor and go back to the beginning and read from the start to the end.. You wont be disappointed.

BEST SERIES EVER!!! Well done Ms. Briscoe, Well Done.

One of my favorites!

I have been waiting on Shield My Heart and Laramie Briscoe did not let me down. The relationship between Mandy and Dalton pulled on my heart strings. Plenty of drama with the Heaven Hill MC and plenty of catching up with the MC family. Great all around read. Never get enough of this series.

Loved it. Mandy and Dalton are one of my favorite couples from Heaven Hill. Even though Dalton made me when he tried to push Mandy away, but he redeemed himself when he realized that he needed her in his life and needed to be a dad to their unborn child.
