After a military helicopter crashes in a remote valley in Africa, a lone survivor awakens without memory of his identity or mission. From the wreckage, he learns only his name: Roger Drum. Armed with instinctive survival skills, the amnesiac roams his new surroundings, discovering a bizarre lost world of dinosaurs, mammoths, sabretooth tigers, and primitive human tribes. Against the backdrop of this hostile new reality, Drum must come to terms with his violent past... so that he may assume the respected and feared mantle of the prophesied jungle warrior Thun'da!

Thun'da, the hero of the primeval forest created by legendary fantasy illustrator Frank Frazetta, returns in this action-packed adventure by Robert Place Napton and Cliff Richards! As a special treat, Dynamite Entertainment proudly presents four classic tales of Thun'da, fully remastered and featuring the creative talents of comic legends Gardner Fox (Detective Comics, The Flash) and Frank Frazetta himself!

Thun'da is a quick read. Not much dialogue to enhance the story but the artwork nicely fills that void. A nice homage to the original character created by Frank Frazetta and Gardner Fox, which itself is probably a Tarzan/Ka-Zar knockoff. And what gives this trade its fourth star is that Dynamite includes those original Frazetta/Fox stories in this volume.
Frazetta, Jae Lee, Richards, Fox, and Napton make a swell collaboration.

(Read as individual issues)
Thunda is a Tarzan pastiche, a military man in a lost valley with dinosaurs, mammoths, cavemen, and intelligent apes. He immediately becomes its master because isn't that what white men always do? And he stirs up trouble and leads to lots of murder and war, before he comes out on top. It's not the deepest or most modern of stories, but it's not bad for what it is. This collection actually makes an interesting choice in that it includes the original Gardner Fox Thunda stories so you can see exactly how close or how far the revamp wanders from the originals (for the most part they're in line, although the revamp takes five issues to tell what was originally in three, but forms it into a more coherent story and jettisons the whole 'return to humanity' aspect). The art is serviceable but not memorable (aside from the Jae Lee covers, which are a step above the internal work, but not near Jae Lee's best). It's ultimately a pretty forgettable reboot of a pretty forgettable Tarzan ripoff.
