If you were a fan of the 80s classic movie Ghostbusters and fancied having a book that represents the film, then here you are! The book is marketed at children but I can see quite a few fans of the movie or 80s kids wanting this book too.

The plot is that of the movie, four ghostbusters trying to save New York from all the ghostly happenings that have been occurring lately, as well as Peter trying to save his love interest Dana from the clutches of Gozer.

The story is very short but the author has managed to include most of the main scenes from the movie. The artwork is spectacular and illustrator Alan Batson has certainly captured the essence of the movie in artform.

I enjoyed the book and I am now looking at the other 80s movies that have been turned into books – feels strange to say in that way around. I think this book would be wonderful for children and grown-ups. It would also make a great Secret Santa or small Christmas present if you are looking for ideas, especially as at the time of writing this book was under £4.00.

I was very surprised at how true the book stuck to the plot of the movie. The language is easy enough for my 1st grader to read with some help and the illustrations were excellent. It really captured the energy and humor of the movie.

Themes and annual coverage aims:
“Who you gonna call…”

For many years my 6 year old son has shouted for the song to be our accompaniment for the drive home, no matter the season. I’d love for him to be able to see the film, but I remember my own fear at watching Ghostbusters 2, probably as a young teens so know that I can’t rush these things. A lovely illustrated book to gently introduce the fab story and characters - marshmallows all round today in celebration. Maybe I can let my older daughter watch it next year once in double figures…? Back to the Yo Gabba Gabba Halloween music videos instead for us all to revel in…

Simple, straightforward, and a good introduction to the Ghostbusters. This book covers the main events in the first, original movie and has illustrations that come off playful, not scary.

Although parts of Ghostbusters can be humorous, the subject of ghosts can be inherently scary. This Little Golden Book does a great job getting to its target audience.

My son loves it and requests it semi-nightly. He knows all of the characters and was really excited to meet them during his first watch of the movie. Overall, the book provided a way to introduce the basic story to make the movie more riveting to a 5 year old.

Great illustrations, includes movie quotes that the parent can enjoy mimicking like the movie. Story is shortened enough to make a good bed time story but doesn't butcher the story like some other kids books have done. It makes the "scary bits" of the movie approachable and my kid really likes the "Mean Meow Meow "(Zuul). This book is currently in heavy rotation and so is the movie to be fair. Super fun to have my 2 year old yell out "Choose the Destructor!" at Costco... Its hilarious actually. I mean its sounds like "Joo wah Dwainoh!" but i know what he's on about.

Challenge: Creature Feature Extravanza October 2020 - Undead (ghosts). A delightful synopsis of the movie, one of my favorites from so many 1980s bests. An indulgence of mine because I had a few Little Golden books as a child and am now purchasing a few that represent each decade or interest of my younger and adult years.

An awesome little adaption of an absolutely fantastic film. I loved every piece of art this small book had to offer and I hope that any child - and adult - who reads it gets a ton of enjoyment from it.

It's a cute adaptation if you love the film. It didn't have a mistake like the Buffy picture book, so that's good.

My kids love this. They are 4 and 2 years old and think this is the cutest book. I am a huge Ghostbusters fan, so it's nice to have this book as a fun introduction to the series.

As an adult reader, these are my thoughts on the book.
The pacing is a bit of an issue, since the plot of the original film had to be heavily condensed to fit in the Little Golden Book format. The end result is a story that races from one key scene to the next at a rapid-fire clip. But at least the plot is still coherent enough to be followed, unlike some other film adaption children's books that I've read. This particular work also makes sure to blatantly feature several fan-favorite lines of dialogue from the original movie. I will say though, the art style used for the book's illustrations is amusing.
However, considering some of the 'adult situations' presented in the original film, I can't help wondering if adapting it into a children's book was a bad idea. While this book manages to be inoffensive and child-friendly, it could inspire kiddos to want to watch the original source material.
Did I like it? I personally felt that the story didn't adapt well to this format. But I'm also not the target demographic.
Would I reread it? No.
Would I recommend it? Only as a novelty collectible for an adult fan's Ghostbusters shelf.
