Fairy tales do come true—and so do tabloid scandals! Bestselling author Marquita Valentine kicks off a juicy contemporary romance series with a novel about a prince whose best-laid plans go deliciously awry when he marries the maid next door.

Forced to flee to the United States with his siblings after their parents’ assassination, Crown Prince Colin Sinclair takes it upon himself to become the caretaker of his family while hiding out near Charlotte, North Carolina. But after a decade in hiding, the secret’s out and Parliament demands that Colin wed a princess of their choosing. Unwilling to play their game, Colin decides to marry an American instead, and he has the perfect candidate in mind.

As a home-service professional, Della Hughes doesn’t believe in storybook endings. But when her best friend and secret crush reveals that he’s a flesh-and-blood prince, she doesn’t know what to think. Still, she’ll do anything for Colin, including becoming his wife—in name only, of course. But when their plans to stay purely platonic go by the wayside, their fake honeymoon turns all too real. After a week of white-hot nights, Della can no longer deny her feelings—not with a happily ever after so tantalizingly close.

They can pretend we don’t exist, but that doesn’t mean we have to pretend we don’t exist as well.”

The members of the royal house of St. Claire––or what’s left of it, at least––are exiled to a small town in North Carolina after the gruesome murder of their parents. Colin Sinclair, the eldest of the siblings, is left to pick up the pieces, take care of his brother, twin sisters, and act as father to his baby brothers, both of whom are barely toddlers. It’s a heavy burden to carry, especially for someone who’s barely an adult, but with the help of the straightforward groundskeeper’s stepdaughter, Della Hughes, Colin somehow manages.

Ten years pass by in a blur, and the Sinclairs have lived in relative peace and quiet. Della has become a mother-figure to the younger Sinclairs, Aiden and Pierce, and a sister/friend to Theo, Charlotte, and Imogen. Most of all, she’s become Colin’s best friend, the one he can rely on more than anyone. So when the world finds out about the secret royal family living in the suburbs and the parliament demands Colin to take over the crown and marry someone of their choosing, Della steps in as his unsuitable bride. That way, the Parliament wouldn’t be able to force Colin to take the crown from his sister, Imogen, the rightful heir to the throne.

As Colin and Della enter into their marriage, clothes are torn off, secrets are revealed, feelings are confessed. They need to withstand everything thrown their way if they want to reach their happily ever after.

I liked the premise. I’m a huge marriage of convenience fan, so add in a bit of that royal element, and I’m intrigued. Hook, line, and sinker.

I also liked Della and Colin’s longstanding friendship. They complement each other so well, and it made me happy to see Colin have someone like Della and vice versa. Della is a no nonsense woman but she’s pretty much a mother bear to the Sinclairs. She’s not afraid to call them out on their bullsh*t, but she’s also incredibly loyal, caring and loving to them.

I loved learning more about the Sinclairs. They’re all interesting characters, and the little ones were adorable. Colin is the responsible one, taking care of the family business all the while taking care of his family and championing their case to return to their country from exile. Theo is outgoing, wild, and flirty. Charlotte and Imogen have contrasting personalities, where the former is more reticent and meek than the latter. Aiden and Pierce are lovable kids who adore Della and Colin.

I also loved that the crown is passed down to the female royals! It’s something I don’t usually encounter, so that was a pleasant surprise.

I think the story would have gone better if the mysteries and Sinclair family secrets were properly weaved. I believe the unveiling of those secrets wasn’t properly executed, and so it left me confused and a little disappointed. I suppose if the story were longer, there would have been more time to properly unveil everything––what happened to the Queen and King Consort, the prime minister’s agenda, Della’s secret, the younger boys’ parentage, to name a few.

Royal Scandal is a standalone contemporary romance about a royal family trying to find their way back home. Told in Colin and Della’s POV, it has its fair share of steam, fluff, and drama. A modern fairytale with its own happily ever after.

Royal Scandal is exactly what this book is based on.

Colin and he's family, are Exiled from the British Isle, due to their parents murder.
They escape to the States to start a new life. Leaving their Royal Heritage behind.

Colin has a lot to deal with including protecting he's 2 sisters Charlotte and Imogen and he's twin brother's who are very young.
Imogen is the rightful Queen and it's Colin's duty to protect her from the outside world and their identity a secret.

Beaumont is the Royal head of security who agreed to be Exiled in order to protect the family.

Quickly Colin meets Della via an altercation regarding the tenancy of the caretakers home in which she lives in with Tressie.

They become fast, firm friends and Della remains very loyal to Colin and he's siblings.

The first chapter is a little hazy as it gives nothing away as to why the Sinclairs have been Exiled. I found it a little confusing as there wasn't a clear introduction to who the characters were.

However it didn't stop me from wanting to know more.

The book forwards on 10years and Della is still a huge part of the family.
In fact you can see subtle hints there is chemistry between Colin and Della.

Colin still has contact with the government and they call on Colin to attend a meeting.
The gist of the meeting is that in order to return from exile and rule the British Isle Imogen has to step down as the rightful Queen and Colin has to marry someone of the government's choice and become King.

Colin has no interest in becoming King, so the family come up with a plan to stop this from happening.

I won't go any further as I really don't wish to give any more away and spoil the mystery. Its such an intriguing read.

I loved how Marquita kept the reader guessing. She allowed you to think you knew what was going to happen but then Bang! another secret unveiled.

I fell in love with Colin and Della and was eager for them to fall in love.
I really loved how Marquita kept an air of suspense and mystery between them. Building up the tension between them.

Royal Scandal is a charming book about Family, Loyalty, Trust, Friendship, Love, Heartache.

There really is something for everyone inside, a must read for all romantics who love a little mystery.

DNF @ 35%.

I was looking forward to this after the little hints we were given in the last of Marquita Valentine's Take the Fall series, and whilst in theory it sounded great, in practice, sadly it wasn't to be.

"Princes don’t move to suburbs outside of Charlotte and live there for ten years without someone noticing."

description

And there lay the sticking point #1 as I couldn't get past this slightly ridiculous notion that these characters were high ranking royalty, yet able to live rather normal lives in the US under the radar, despite being exiled following the assassination of their parents: the ruling monarchs of the British Isles.

I have read some excellent books by Valentine, so this was a real shame. I tried, I really did but there were just too many sticking points for me and I couldn't get past the anonymity, Prince Colin's constant references to his younger brothers as "his boys" or the lack of chemistry between himself and Della. The best-friends-to-lovers trope is one I love but the fauxmance not so much and there just wasn't enough to keep my interest.

description

Whether I continue with the series is undecided. I'm half tempted to because I very much disliked the first in the author's Take the Fall series, yet the others were an absolute delight to read: it'll simply be a case of whether the blurb takes my fancy.

An adorably sweet and sexy story about Royal Scandals and fairytale love.

After forced to leave their country right on the heels of their murder, Prince Colin Sinclair and his brothers and sisters hide royal identities in a small town in North Carolina. Having only themselves to rely on, a barely old enough Colin assumes the role of guarding to his teenaged brother and twin sisters and as a father to his two baby brothers, yet he knows nothing about bottles and diapers. Fortunately the ground keeper’s daughter does and they soon form a friendship that will last a lifetime or until his secrets pull them apart.

Della Hughes cleans houses by day and dresses up as princesses during her spare time, but that doesn’t mean she believes in fairytales until her best friend and the man she’s secretly loved for the past decade tells her one of his many secrets all while proposing she marry him for convenience because she’s perfectly unsuitable and their union will allow his oldest sister to become the rightful queen of the Isle of Man. But as they become husband and wife in name only and leave for their fake honeymoon more secrets are revealed and their mutual attraction is uncovered, can they also admit their true feelings and write their own happily ever after?
“You are one of the best men I know.”
My heart slams against my chest at her compliment. I do not deserve her, but I refuse to give her up. Ever.

Marquita Valentine gives us a wonderful hero. Colin is a blunt business owner, but what makes him impossible to resist is his devotion and loyalty to his family. He fully undertakes responsibility of their guardianship at the young age of nineteen despite the fact that his own parents had been venal and thoughtless. He further proves his swoon worthiness with Della’s sexy seduction once he realizes that he wants more than a marriage in name only with her. He want’s everything.
“Even if I wasn’t your wife, even if I hadn’t agteed to marry you, you are my best friend and I will always be on your side.”

Della is sweet and understanding, a pillar of strength for Colin and practically the youngest Sinclairs’ mother. She was a natural fit in Colin’s life despite her “commoner” origins. I would have loved to get more about the ten years between their initial meeting and when the big royal secret practically blew up on them but it’s clear that Della and Colin adore each other and that there’s nothing they wouldn’t do for one another. They have incredible chemistry but their path to happiness isn’t smooth sailing as they need to clear the way out of the web of lies that surround the Sinclairs.

Speaking of the entire Sinclair clan, I loved getting to know all of them. They’re each very different personalities and I’m sure we’ll get to enjoy each of their stories in future books.

Royal Scandal is the first book in the Royals in Exile series by Marquita Valentine. It is a standalone, full-length, contemporary romance with warm and sweet moments, delectably sexy times and a good dose of dramatic twists. Told from both points of view, with a fairytale happy ever after.

Talk about royal scandals.
The Sinclair children are the victims of their Parent's selfish lifestyles and egos.

Great story!
Wonderful, colorful characters.
I think this is the most erotic book Ms. Valentine has written (or that I've read by her).
Holy Shit! This book was HOT!

I look forward to reading more stories about the Sinclair children (I think Charlotte's going to shock everyone).

Crown Prince marries his best friend who happens to be a maid? Definitely a fairytale . . . right? Less of a fairytale when you take into account the fact that Prince Colin, his two sisters and three brothers have all been exiled from their home after their parents brutal death. With Della’s help Colin manages to provide a stable life for himself and his siblings, but thoughts of home are never far from their minds.
Well, you know how we Americans are. Rebelling against the Crown since 1776.
Colin Sinclair assumes the role of head of the family and takes his siblings to a sleepy town in North Carolina where he does his best to keep them safe, happy, and out of the eye of the media all while trying to find someway for them to go home again. Colin befriends the caretakers daughter, Della, and their friendship becomes a cornerstone of his and his family’s lives.
I bet he's royally endowed.
Della Hughes first meets Colin just after he’s callously evicted her and her step-mother from their home. She seems him struggling with his two young boys and offers to help care for them. Before she knows it, she’s so deeply enmeshed in their lives it’s like she’s part of the family.
Special but not welcome. Gotcha . . . I'll say 'bless your heart' a lot.
Colin and Della have a tough road ahead of them. He can’t be honest with her and it creates distance between them but she’s his best friend and when he needs help she’s there in the blink of an eye. Della and Colin work well together when they’re both honest with each other but with a few big secrets between the two, there are some definite hurdles to overcome.
Did you think perhaps our mother was a lonely, bored sociopath, just like our father?
Ultimately, this book was sweet and easy to read. I enjoyed both Della and Colin, but I’m also intrigued by the other siblings. I didn’t so much care for the drama with Parliament and the relationships their parents had but there was a lot of looking back that needed to happen before everyone could move forward. I’m definitely interested to see what happens with Charlotte but I’m most excited to see how Theo’s story pans out.

Great start to the series, but I don't like the cover at all. Royal's in exile and the prince falls in love with a maid. Loved that their country passed from Queen to Queen and that the King is a figure head. Lots of surprises along the way. Collin and Della were hot in between the sheets, but their romance and chemistry was just a little blah. Great epilogue and preview to the next book.

Loved Colin and Della! A prince that defies the royal traditions is wildly entertaining and I loved that Della was his friend first. The story was well rounded with everything I needed.

This review was originally posted on Addicted To Romance Summary
When crown Prince Colin Sinclair's parents were assassinated, both he and his siblings were placed into exile and had to take care of each other in American while trying to figure out a way to get back in the good graces of Parliament, so that his sister can rule. Colin knows that it won't be easy but will do everything he can to see that his family are placed in their rightful place as they were meant to be. With two infant brothers to take care of, he hires on a local, to help be a caretaker for them. Delia Hughes is a home service maid, and even though she has always had feelings for Colin, she will do anything for him and his two boys. And when the secret is out, and he is in need of a wife out of convenience, she accepts not knowing what will happen in the future or what Colin expects of her. The last thing she ever imagined would be falling in love with a prince.
Plot and Story Line
This is a classic maid falls in love with royalty scenario but I enjoyed certain details that this author shows in this one. This royal family was fun, their bantering with each other pretty lively and you quickly fall in love with each of them, especially the youngest two boys. This royal family rules by the female, which I found to be very interesting. Even though Colin is the Crown Prince, it is his sister who is the true future Queen. In the beginning of the story, we see Colin and our heroine meet and not under the best of "circumstances" but you sense the chemistry flare between them. And then we skip ahead ten years later. Colin and Delia are still working together, but Colin is very close to having his family return to their home. Now Colin and Delia have had ten years of working together closely, so we sense that they already care for each other. But then Colin has a idea, and at first its a platonic agreement, but both of them soon realize they have too much chemistry to keep it that way. Now I found this story to be quite charming at times, the characters were easy to love but the actual romance fell a bit flat for me. I couldn't quite feel anything from their romance, which was a bit disappointing however I was fascinated with every other aspect of the story. So guaranteed I will be picking up book 2 because I can't wait to see how this family gets back their kingdom.
The Cover
Interesting...I like the yellow and her shoes are gorgeous!!

"Every once in a while, in the middle of our ordinary lives, love gives us a fairy tale.”

I’ve loved fairy tales since I was a little girl—from Cinderella to Beauty in the Beast to modern romances that feel like fairy tales. Fairy tales are just…SIGH…magical and mesmerizing. These magical stories transport me to a wonderful fantasy world that sometimes feels very raw and real. Royal Scandal by Marquita Valentine is a feel-good, friends-to-lovers fairy tale of a romance dipped in suspense that makes your heart dance!

Royal Scandal enraptured and ensnared me from the start, this slow burn of a book with more sweetness than steam became my obsession. This fairy tale twisted itself around all of me. It did not let go; I did not let go. Royal Scandal with its sweet and spicy story along with a fusion of Southern sass and charming Brit demeanor was the magical mixture for a moving romance.

Crown Prince Colin Sinclair is tall, green-eyed, dark-haired, and handsome with a caring personality, delicious body and dirty-talking mouth. He puts his family first even over his love life. Until he stumbled upon the beautiful, red-haired and blue-eyed, Della Hughes, the caretaker and housekeeper of his new American estate of which he and his family fled from his British country under exile.

At just seventeen when he fled his country to America, Colin felt a connection to the fifteen year-old Della, a spark when she challenged him immediately.

"I feel as if I've found a kindred soul in her."

Colin and Della became fast friends, though fighting the chemistry that loomed between them for ten long years. Ten years until Colin’s exile may be lifted if he claims a bride. To Colin, that would be heaven to finally get his hands on forbidden territory, jump out of that friend zone into more.

"Della. My best friend. The woman of my dreams. Forever off-limits...until now."

Colin has to convince Della to become his bride, to possibly toss friendship aside for more. Maybe Della wants Colin as much as he does her.

"My head is inundated with her image, of all the ways I want to have her. The hundreds of ways I want to kiss every inch of her body. Make her mine in every way possible."

Oh was Colin Mr. Prince Charm-the-Panties off of me. Della is one lucky lady! I want to suddenly be the Cinderella to this perfect prince.

"We're friends and friends don't sleep together."

Della will do anything for her best friend, Colin, including marrying him but in name only. Though their platonic plans become a challenge when the combustible chemistry surrounds them like the air they breathe.

"I don't think I need to show you how hard I am for you...unless you don't believe me and need to investigate for yourself."

"I believe you."

"Too bad because I would look forward to your inspection."

Colin is royally endowed and his package may be as irresistible as his passion and charm for Della.

"He wants me and I want him, and there's nothing to stop either of us."

Della falls into the rabbit hole, completely smitten by the oh-so-persuasive Prince. The passion between that has built for ten years is about to burst, friendship caught on fire ready to blaze into an inferno. Feelings of more than friendship are forming, but Della is holding back, afraid that her happily-ever-after is not in the cards.

"Colin, don't you get it? Stuff like this doesn't happen in the real world. Happily ever afters for a maid and a prince—seriously? That's Disney magic."

Colin is hiding a secret or more that could be scandalous. Couple that with Della who doesn’t believe in happily-ever-afters or fairy tales and this prince may have a tough time convincing his bride-in-name to become his forever princess.

“Are you saying you want this to be real?”

“It’s already real. I want this to be forever.”

Royal Scandal is a Cinderella tale where Prince Charming is as sweet as pie and his princess is all sass. This friends-to-lovers love story sank itself into me, sprinkling fairy dust over the pages, where I was covered in a delicious concoction of sweetness and smolder. This magical fairy tale melted me from head to toe.

I had love in my heart and stars in my eyes while devouring Royal Scandal. A dash of romance, a splash of suspense, and a heap of heart make this modern-day Cinderella story a must-read! So royally good!

I was expecting a sweet romance between best friends. With some humor, light angst and some heat. What I got was an overload of sweetness, two best friends that have been in love with each other for years (so much so that the H has'n't been with any OW in years because he only desires Della) little to no angst and nuclear meltdown heat (the scenes are borderline kink, who new rigid Colin was such a dominate stud?)

Colin's been in love with his best friend Della for years. But he's never been able to reveal to her his royal blood, or the fact that they have been living in the states and in exile from their home country. When he proposes a marriage in name to safe guard his sister's claim to the throne, it doesn't take long for these two to chuck the idea of temporary for the promise of forever.

I like Colin and Della, they were perfect for each other and I loved that they have a history together, a genuine friendship that cemented their bond to each other. Did I mention that Colin stayed celibate for his h as soon as he realized he was in love with her? For years, he's been in love and hasn't thought, let alone, touched another because it felt wrong when he only wanted Della. I absolutely love that about him.

The only gripe I have about Royal Scandal is the speed in which their relationship went from platonic friends to intimate sex partners. One minute their both convinced they can only be friends and that a future is unlikely and that crossing that line would be a very bad idea, and the next, their tearing each others clothes off and jumping right into being physical. It was a bit jarring. I expected more of a struggle or at least a deeper emotional response to the huge change in their relationship. Also I felt like Della deserved a good drawn out grovel from Colin for his intensional deception. When we constantly get told he loves her and trusts her 100%, his actions contradicted that.

Still this was a solid 3 star read for me. I liked it and I'm definitely intrigued to see what's in store for the rest of the royal siblings.

Safety: H/h have been celibate once they realize they are in love with each other. Neither is a virgin, there is no OM/OW drama/cheating. The H is 29 and the h is 27. Triggers: h can't have children and this causes some angst in the story. There is death of parents (both the H and h), adultery (by H's parents) and a short separation between the MCs that lasts a few days.

Okay..

I loved a lot of things about this book:
*All of the characters
*The overall plot
*The "tone" of the story
*The banter
*The sex was even adequate

That's a lot of stuff, right? If I were doing my normal review layout, I would give the H, h, plot, and sex scenes all 4 or 5 stars.

But my rating is 3 stars.

All that great stuff doesn't work if it's not executed properly. There were times were we were at point "x" in the story and a sentence later we go to point "a". That doesn't make a whole lot of sense. The whole book was disjointed and almost read like it thrown together like a badly made jigsaw puzzle. I'm not trying to be harsh, just honest.

I REALLY wanted to LOVE this book. There were many things to love, but the the book as a whole book was not love worthy. I have never read this author before so maybe this is a bad fit for me. I'm not sure.

4 Scandalous CROWNS

Royal Scandal, by Marquita Valentine, follows the exiled children of the Sinclair monarchy as they struggle to uncover the secrets that are hidden regarding their parents and their exile from their country, while the oldest son, Colin, tries to balance fighting for the love of his life and the protection of his family.

The whole royal family is interesting. Every single story line she has planned for this series has me intrigued based on the characters alone, especially the second epilogue (book 2, please, ASAP). Even though all the siblings are involved in the story, Royal Scandal focuses on Colin and Della. Best friends for 10 years, secretly in love with each other, but both unwilling to take the leap, until they are pushed into it. Once together and feelings have been shared, let the sexy times roll. That honeymoon is the stuff of dreams, and who would have ever thought Colin was a little rough and dirty underneath that polished royal exterior. The whole relationship was enjoyable to watch, and the love and support between the two is fantastic, a true representation of a good and real relationship.

Royal Scandal has two main plot lines. Readers will encounter the relationship between Della and Colin, and while I enjoyed it, what really sucked me into the story is the royal secrets and scandal. Each illicit act drew me further in, as well as how each secret that was exposed would affect the Sinclair royals. Readers will be anxious to see how each of the siblings will react to the secrets that have been exposed, and I just know Ms. Valentine is going to continue to deliver the scandal and outlandish behavior in the next couple of books.

Marquita Valentine’s Royal Scandal is such a fun read. The relationship between Della and Colin is enjoyable, and the the deception and secrets of the royal family kept me entertained from the first pages. After that epilogue, I need book 2 stat!

Favorite Quote: “Well, you know how we Americans are. Rebelling against the crown since 1776.”

Crown Prince Colin Sinclair and his royal siblings are forced to flee to to the United States after a coup in their country results in the assignation of their parents. Settling in Charlotte, NC Colin becomes the official caregiver with some help from friend. When their cover is blown and plastered all over the tabloids for the world to see, their country offers Colin a deal. Marry a princess of their choosing and the Sinclair family will be allowed to return home. But Colin is tired of being at the mercy of his country’s government. Taking matters into his own hands, he proposes marriage to the one person who has held his heart for ten years.

Della Hughes may have met the Sinclairs under less than happy circumstances but over the years she has grown to love them all, especially the oldest, Colin. Della doesn’t believe in fairy tales or happily ever afters but when she learns her prince charming is REALLY a prince, she is shocked. Willing to do anything for this family, Della agrees to a marriage of convenience but when the honeymoon goes from fake to real, Della isn’t sure she can walk away at the end, Or if she even wants too.

Royal Scandal is the first book in Marquita Valentine’s Royals in Exile series. Set in the US and the Isle of Man (a real country-part of the British Crown), the story revolves around the Sinclair family and their fight to regain their heritage. I’ve been enjoying the new trend of royals falling for commoners romances that have been trending the last few months. It is for me the ultimate modern fairytale. Lightweight and humorous, this friends to lovers romance is relatively low in angst and conflict with a surprisingly bite of heat. Valentine focuses on Colin’s and Della’s romance foremost but effortlessly blends in the history of happened to their parents and the cause while advancing each sibling’s story to prepare them for their own stories.

The story opens with Colin and his brother Theo trying to console their colicky youngest brother. Valentine gives us the bare bones of what is happening and sets the stage for the romance to come. When one of the family bodyguards informs them they have a visitor, Colin is shocked by a gorgeous and bold young woman demanding to know why her family is being evicted from their home. Colin realizes that his family’s need for privacy is forcing the caretakers out onto the streets. He let them stay and gains a friend in the process. Della Hughes. The book then jumps forward ten years in time which dismayed me a little. We are told of the depth of the friendship Della and Colin holds and everything she has done for the family but I would have enjoyed seeing some of it play out. Della essentially adopts the role of “mother” to the babies and helps Colin with the older ones during that time.

I liked Colin and Della. In fact, I liked all the siblings. Each one is individually fleshed out and Valentine makes sure we see their differences and the possible snags that may hamper their futures. Colin is the oldest and he takes his responsibility seriously. Exiled at age nineteen, he assumes the parental role over all of them (Theo- age seventeen and the twins, Charlotte and Imogen-age fourteen) though the ones that depend on him most are the two youngest Sinclairs. Aiden, age fifteen months and Pierce, age four months who are some seriously cute kids. Though fashioned somewhat as plot devices, Valentine characterizes them in a way that you instantly forgive her. Colin is seriously overwhelmed but I liked that he isn’t portrayed as a martyr. He has fallen for Della hard but doesn’t want to ruin their friendship. Especially since his future remains uncertain and he has not been completely honest with her about who he really is. Intelligent, understated, loyal, and funny with sexy dominant side that comes out later on.

“Do be a good girl and sit very still while I wash you.”

“Yes, sir.”

He tweaks a nipple and desire makes me whimper.

“That’s yes, your highness.”

Della is his perfect match. Also smart, sexy, loyal, and funny, she gives as good as she get and isn’t one to play games. The chemistry is sweet and steamy with some nicely done longing and sexy internal thoughts. The added bonus of their history together only adds to the overall appeal. She too fell for Colin years ago but feels he only sees her as a friend. I love the relationship she has with Colin and his family. It has a separate quality to it that didn’t seem dependant on the attraction between her and Colin.

The marriage is the pivot of the story and its pacing increases two-fold. This couple does a rapid about-face, going from platonic and willing to suffer in silence for their love to full frontal lust filled mattress dancing. While Valentine expands on the romance, she also expands on the somewhat machiavellian plot behind the family’s exile. The two storylines start out running parallel and slowly begin to intertwine. I enjoyed watching Colin and Della’s love for one another truly blossom and grow once they got out of each other’s way and the political machinations were interesting. Unfortunately, the storylines begin to compete against each other. I felt the seriousness of exile plotline cast a small shadow over the romance.

I also had an issue with Colin’s omission of some important details. Some things he remained tight-lipped about for too long while others he allowed Della to make her own assumptions about, knowing when she found out she’d be furious. And she was. I think she deserved a bit more groveling and explanation on his end though overall his reasons were understandable.

The ending gives Colin and Della the happily ever after they both deserve and a nice little epilogue to clue us into the next Sinclair sibling’s story.

Royal Scandals is altogether a royally fun and flirty romance that engages and satisfies despite the few issues I encountered. I am looking forward to the next in the series, Royal Affair, which is set to release March 7, 2017.

This is my first Marquita Valentine book and I was excited about the whole scandalous Royals who are in exile story. However, I was looking for more of the scandal. This story has more of a Cinderella feel to it.

Prince Colin Sinclair and his brothers and sisters were forced to flee from their ruling country when their parents were assigned, forcing them into exile. For 10 years, Colin has played father to his two younger brothers while living completely under the radar in North Carolina. Upon their arrival, he meets the fiery Della Hughes, who lives on his property while her mother is the caretake of the land. The two end up becoming best friends and they are secretly in love with each other.

When Colin returns back to his country to learn that they want him at the throne but they want him to marry someone that they choose, he refuses. Instead he comes up with the plan to marry Della. What starts off as a business transaction quickly turns into their true feelings coming out. Will they be able to get back the charade and commit to each other for the sake of true love?

I have to be honest and say that this fell a little flat for me. I don't know if it was the transition of Colin being the sweet man who has raised his brothers as his own to one dirty mouthed man when he finally gets with Della or something else. Don't get me wrong, I love dirty mouths. It was just an awkward transition for me.

I did like Della. She has the biggest heart and has loved Colin for years now. I'm sure some will see her as a doormat because she does just about everything for him but during those 10 years, he wasn't running around with other people and he was doing his best to raise his brothers.

Overall, I think I would have liked a bit more of a scandal as the title says but I think people who like a love story with a fairytale ending will enjoy this book. If that's you, then this book is for you.

Very entertaining

Royal Scandal is the first book by Marquita Valentine that I read - and the first book in the Royals in Exile series. I love a good twist on a fairy tale, they can be so much fun!

In the second chapter we learn they were already in love - there’s a 10 year jump from the first chapter. They just didn’t have an excuse to do the deed yet. I didn’t feel like there was a romance building, but the consolidation of a romantic relationship. I wish I could’ve seen the moment they realize they were falling in love with each other.

Colin was the perfect gentleman, kind and honorable. It’s difficult not to fall in love with him. The chemistry between Colin and Della were off the charts! I was impressed by how hot the sex scenes were, and how both were dirty talkers!

The author kept an air of mystery, and while the conflict was very obvious from the start,
she had a few surprises about what happened to their parents. All the characters were charming, and the lively bantering with each other was what made this family and this story special. I’m eagerly awaiting the Sinclair siblings’ HEA, especially Theo’s.

Cinderella and prince charming come true. Who doesn't want a happy ending? Collin is the embodiment of a true prince sandly one true love is a maid. But love always win everybody.
So let's talk about the fact that this story is good one, for starters who wouldn't fall in love with Collin. Him being a prince is just a bonus. I really just want to focus on the twists and the complications of the story cause this is where the meat it.
The part where almost all of the Sinclairs are bastards, aaaaand the part where the pregnant girl was the butlers baby sister AAAAAND the butler is a crowned prince of some sorts. Shocking how the story unfolds and how the prince deals with each problem, but we all know that Cinderella always gets a happy ending.
I can't tell more really, but I am very excited with Charlotte's story.

This book is one of the more terribly written books I’ve ever read. Nothing about the dialogue felt natural, the plot moved way too quickly, and the way the characters behaved was painful.

Oh wow! Oh Wow!!! OH WOW!!! This has been the best read of 2017 for me! This book drew me in and didn't want to let me go!!! The characters, the plot, the action!!! All of it was perfection in the hands of Marquita Valentine. It's really been a while since I wholeheartedly fallen in love with characters AND secondary characters at the same time.

The premise of the entire series is quite unique what with exiled Royal Family that is matriarchy in nature! So that is where we find our poor Prince Colin Sinclair at the beginning of the book. Having to grow up and become a caregiver of his numerous siblings ranging from under a year old to late teens in the wake of their parents' assassination and consequent exile from their motherland. I just wanted to hug Colin and take some of that burden that has fallen on his shoulders. But Colin is a true class act giving it all knowing all this caregiving is to make sure a proper queen is put in place once the exile order is lifted meanwhile trying to stay under the radar in their new home of small town North Carolina, USA.

However, don't feel too bad for him as he meets a pretty amazing woman, Della, to navigate his new role of being the primary caregiver the very first day of the exile. It's truly a fairy tale story if Cinderella (minus wicked step sisters and mother) was written in present day. Della got herself some great attitude to keep all those royals in check while keeping all their hearts. It really is no wonder that this Royalty bows down to females because all the females in this book are pretty amazing. Yep, that's right no eye rolling for me when Della or one of the Queens pulled some stupid stuff.

What I loved most about the series is because Marquita wrote in a love story (and if I got all the hints the series will continue to provide such surprises) of unconventional love stories.

So I highly recommend grabbing this bad boy of a series by putting on your best ball gown, pretty shoes and snagging yourself a nice prince (or no prince at all) charming. But like I said even if Della and Colin won't do it for you (which I will judge you highly if they don't) there are a bunch of Sinclair siblings who are just itching to create the next Scandal!

Marquita has given me yet another story and alpha to swoon over! Like every time before, I raced through this story, loathe for it to end but unable to put it down. It’s sexy, fun, and intriguing, with some great twists. And, of course, a fantastic HEA.

Colin is such a strong character. Despite being young and immature, the product of selfish and careless parents, when the time comes for him to step up, he does so with complete commitment. He’s only 19 when his parents are assassinated and he is forced into exile with his four five siblings, two of which are under the age of two. He becomes a father, a business owner, and the one responsible for finding a way for them to return home.

All of this weighs on his shoulders, especially the secrets since they have to keep their royal heritage under wraps. It doesn’t help that his neighbor is not only appealing physically, she becomes his best friend and over the years, helps him to handle the struggles in his life, even if she doesn’t realize it. Eventually, he accepts the fact that he is in love with her, but due to so many things, he assumes they can never be together. Colin seems stiff at first, but I grew to love his character quickly. Then he whipped out his deliciously dirty mouth and seductive skills and I was lost to him. He’s incredibly intelligent, determined, and loves fiercely.

Della has the natural instinct to mother everybody and she is more than happy to be a part of their lives. Particularly playing a solid role in raising Colin’s youngest brothers, whom he has let everyone believe are his sons. You can’t help but love her. There isn’t a malicious bone in her body. She is loving, understanding, and so forgiving. It was kind of obtuse of Colin not to realize he could trust her with the whole truth in the ten years they are just friends.

Circumstances force Colin to ask Della if she will help him by agreeing to a sham marriage. She loves him enough to agree even though the outcome is likely to hurt her in the end. But, Coin quickly comes to the conclusion that he’ll do anything to keep Della as his wife permanently. He woos her, seduces her, and inevitably, they admit to wanting the same things.

This doesn’t mean everything is suddenly solved, there are still a plethora of obstacles that they face. As more and more come out, it’s clear that their whole lives have been a lie and not just the secrets they have guarded.

I’m so happy that this will be a series because not only did I fall for Colin and Della, I’m completely intrigued with the other siblings and can’t wait for their stories. Marquita Valentine is one of those authors that I drop everything to read when they have a new book and I’ve never been disappointed. They have heat, action, intrigue, and so many things that go into making a story compelling and ones that put this book firmly on my re-read shelf! I’ll continue to eagerly stalk her, waiting for the next time I get to immerse myself in one of her worlds.

I think 'Royal Fucked-up' will be more suitable for the title because this story is so fucked-up and confusing.
It's like I'm reading a fanfiction that is not written by a professional writer.

As much as I adore the British Royal Family, it's so hard for me to get into this story because:

1. I never read any Royal Family story before so I have no comparison. Actually when the first time I read the synopsis of this book, I was so excited to finally read a book about a Royal Family. But honestly I'm disappointed. Because it wasn't like what I was expected. I find the story really boring.
description

2. The 'scandal' that happened with the Sinclairs is so confusing.
The author is probably trying to make it like a mystery that will make the reader curious about what happened to them and continue reading it to find out. But I don't feel curious. Instead, I feel so confused because it's like I'm lost that I don't understand what the hell is happening.
description

3. I don't feel the connection between the hero and heroine. Everything seems so superficial.
I don't really understand the real characteristic of the hero, Colin. He seems so cold, but then suddenly he's trying to be a Dom in the bed room, and I find it really doesn't suit him.
It also makes all the erotic scenes really dull, awkward and boring.
description

4. I don't understand the plot. Even after 57% of the book, I have no clue what the hell is going on.
description

To sum it up: this book is boring, not exciting, with not well-developed characters, everything seems so superficial and too fucked-up.

I really, really tried so hard to enjoy this book. But unfortunately I really couldn't. I'm sorry.

You know how sometimes people talk about romance as sort of a fantasy world or best picture world. Well, this is one of those romantic fantasies. It's a sort of Cinderella story (maid weds prince) but it's steeped in a world where things are half reality and half fantasy.

Let's start with the obvious fantasy part of it. Colin is a prince... from the Isle of Man. Now, I happen to know a little bit about the Isle of Man because when I was younger I was beyond fascinated by the history of the British Isles. I knew I didn't know enough about it though, so I did some research to figure out if there was any plausibility to the story. And the answer was... it's not really plausible. Personally, I'd rather some fictitious place be made than take a real place and twist it all around, but that is my personal preference.

Since my plausibility meter was already shattered, I started noticing all sorts of other things that just felt "off" to me. It's just so ridiculous that she'd keep her job after marrying the prince - that job of being a maid and cleaning other people's houses. It's even more ridiculous that he would ok with that. I mean, seriously, she could have decided to be a stripper or a whore and I think he would have been ok with it because it would be what she wanted to do. That level of "empowerment" isn't exactly what I'm looking for in a guy.

And then there's the story behind their exile. I was rolling my eyes over it all. And the story of how their parents met. More eye rolling ensued. And the evil Prime Minister. By this time, I wasn't sure if my eyeballs would stay in my head. Like I said, this is every bit of romantic fantasy.

But then... here's the thing. Why did I like it if it was so eye-rolling-ly annoying? Because despite all the frustration with it, Valentine made me care about these people. I loved how Colin took care of his family and how Della took care of Colin's family. I lapped up Theo's pain. I watched Imogen and Charlotte struggle. I raced to the door with Aiden and Pierce. I ached with Beaumont. I want to read more about these people.

“In our fairy tale, anything is possible.”

I’ve been on a real royal kick lately, so snagging myself a copy of Royal Scandal was a no brainier. This book had it all from secrets and lies to a marriage of convenience, to a fantastic friends to lovers romance. Marquita Valentine totally knocked it out of the park with this one!

Royal Scandal pulls you in from the very first moment Colin is introduced. You see, after Colin’s parents were murdered, he had to grow up rather quickly. He suddenly found himself exiled from the only home he’s known and is now the only parent to his younger siblings. In order to start a new life, Colin’s identity and past must be kept a secret. And Colin will do anything to keep his family safe. However Colin will quickly find that he can not do it all on his own….As the years go by, Colin will forever be indebted to Della. Not only is he secretly in love with her, but she is his best friend. She is the glue that holds him and his family together….That is until his secret comes out. When the time comes and the truth must be aired out, will Della continue to stand by his side? Will Della and Colin take a chance on what has always been in front of them?

Overall, I really enjoyed this story. I thought it was well written and entertaining. Royal Scandal is a fast-paced and quick read, but I promise you, this book delivers in every way that counts. I loved the slow burning romance between Colin and Della. I couldn’t help but root for the two of them and hope that their relationship would turn into something more. I adored Colin’s family. I loved watching Colin care for his siblings as if they were his own children. I really liked how Della stood by Colin’s side, through it all. Even when certain moments of truth came to light, Della remained a strong female character.

Royal Scandal is the first book in the exciting new Royals in Exile Series. I think this series is off to a wonderful start. I’m already hooked on the Sinclair family and am so excited to see where this story is going to go next.

Royal Scandal was a fun friends to lovers romance with a few twists and turns along the way. The book is the first in the new Royals in Exile series which follows the lives of the Sinclair family, but can be read as a stand alone.

The story is told from the alternating view points of Colin Sinclair and Della Hughes. They've been best friends for 10 years, but they've also been secretly in love with each other and too afraid to act on it for fear of ruining their friendship. I liked the back and forth and playful banter between them and it made the reward all that much sweeter when the truth and their feelings were revealed. Della and Colin share some pretty sexy and swoony moments and let's just say I'll meet Colin in the library any day! ;)

Where the story lost me was the details of the Sinclair family history and their sordid past. There was a lot of build-up about the reason why the Sinclair's were exiled and the deaths of their parents, but it all just felt disjointed and confusing when the "truth" was revealed. There wasn't a lot of angst/drama in the story, which I liked, but the drama that was introduced felt forced and rushed.

I did enjoy the secondary characters though like Tressie, Beaumont, and all the other Sinclair siblings, Imogen, Charlotte, Theo, Pierce, and Aiden. They added tender moments and some comic relief as well. The epilogue was sweet and a great introduction to the next book about Charlotte. Overall, I enjoyed Royal Scandal and thought it was a fun and sexy read.

I absolutely adored Colin and Della’s love story. It was lighthearted, funny, sexy, and a bit intriguing. There’s nothing that I love more than the friends-to-lovers trope. Add in a marriage of convenience, no matter how quickly the fakeness of it all ends, and you’re golden. It was clear from the moment Della came barreling into Colin’s crazy and secretive life that these two were meant to be. I just don’t know how or why they held out for so long or why it took a threat from Parliament to force Colin into her arms. I guess we wouldn’t have a story to read otherwise.

In addition to their journey, I sincerely loved these characters. The author did an excellent job of developing them and providing depth to their personalities and histories. I thought Della and Colin were great as friends and even better as lovers. They complemented each other and their relationship was real. I especially loved how playful Della was and that her attitude did not change toward Colin or his family once she found out who the Sinclairs were. In turn, I loved Colin’s treatment of those around him, overall disposition, and love of his family. The author could have made him cocky and brash, but he wouldn’t have had the same level of respect nor been able to build a 10 year relationship with someone as wonderful as Della.

I’m looking forward to reading more about the Sinclair family. Thanks to the bonus chapters at the end of this book, I’m going to be anxiously awaiting the arrival of Charlotte’s journey to HEA.

There were a lot of things I liked about this book, and there were things that did not work for me.

This was, essentially, a fairy tale. And that is a lot of fun when done well. The exiled Prince, the woman who has been in love with him and spending time with his family for years, of course with no idea he is actually a Prince. His insane wealth and all of the things that make him a prince are all there, and they are all fun.

I liked the slightly surreal fairy tale feeling of the story. I liked that it took place in a real location and not a made up country. This is a pet peeve of mine, so I was glad this wasn't in the book (Norway isn't going to sue, you don't need to set it in Norwandia, really).

That said, I thought the fairy tale of the romance of Colin and Della was perfect. The issue I had with the book was the subplot was too serious and it threw the pacing of the story off for me. The light fairy tale aspects were drug down in an assassination/cover up/power grab by the UK government...this was way too much and made the lightness of the rest of the book a little out of place. Not enough to ruin the story, and I did enjoy it, but this definitely lessened the enjoyment.

I do still recommend the book, minor pacing issues aside.
