Samurai Golf: Trained Body – Calm Mind – Focused Intent

Earl Woods – retired Green beret Lt. Colonel and Tiger Woods father – believed that “Golf is a form of martial arts, so you teach and learn the golf swing the same way you do martial arts.” Earl Woods taught Tiger that golf is a form of warfare for which you must be conditioned and prepared physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually.
Tiger Woods learnt at a young age to practice the swings using kata in front of a mirror. His father is also famous for his tough mental training of Tiger, again from a young age.

This book shows how to become a Samurai Golfer.

- Train form and feeling (kata) with slow motion mirror work taking it to the range. This is a method that is taught by top golf instructors
- Train accuracy with variable and random practice (suburi) – a method recommended by Sports Scientists
- Train to bullet proof your game by practicing under pressure (randori). Method used by Luke Donald when he was #1.
- Develop course strategy using Sun Tzu’s Art of War
- Be Grounded, Relaxed, Aware, Centered and Expanding energy (ki).
- Develop a not-stopping mind (mushin and zanshin). Jason Days trains in this.
- Develop intuition (yomi). Helps your green reading and shot selection.
- Develop Focused Intent. Connect to the target.
- Develop a samurai posture, physically and attitude (shisei). Good posture is critical to the golf swing and to mental toughness on the course
Forge Power – tanren. Using foam rolling and kettlebells to develop a samurai body.
- Incorporate it into your pre-shot and post shot routine

The Founder of Aikido O-Sensei taught many of these methods to Sadaharu Oh who holds Japan’s home run record with 868 home runs. (Barry Bonds holds the Major League Baseball record with 762. Hank Aaron has 755).

Many leading golf instructors are using similar methods to those in this book, particularly those using biomechanic research, and there are examples included in every chapter,
