Resources for Biblical Living

Faithfulness: No More Excuses

Rate this book
You probably already know a little about faithfulness—it's obviously an important character trait in the Bible. But, while simple to understand, being a faithful friend, family member, or disciple can be a lot harder to develop. It not only requires time in the present to cultivate, but also affects the shape of our future—because the faithfulness that we show now determines the opportunities we ll receive to show faithfulness later.

Faithfulness is a critical pursuit for the Christian—but it often gets lost in the shuffle. We ask God to give us certain qualities and to change the way we are. . . but faithfulness is concerned with what we do! So how do we know whether we are faithful?

Lou Priolo defines three key elements of faithfulness, then goes on both to outline three tests for measuring faithfulness and to pinpoint the greatest obstacles to faithfulness. Learn how to leave excuses behind and do what God has entrusted you to do!

The Resources for Biblical Living booklet series addresses a wide range of practical life issues in a straightforward, down-to-earth, and most of all, biblical manner.

If you don't read any other book this year, READ THIS ONE. It is short, but so very good. I really appreciated the parallels drawn between the unfaithful and the faithful. It was convicting, inspiring, and has given me much to think on.

This is an excellent resource on Christian living using biblical principles and God centered motivation. I realize the term “faithfulness” can be rather broad and my only real critique of this book is that it might have been better titled “Responsibilities” or something along that line so readers understand right away what the book is about. I totally enjoyed this book and found it immensely practical and helpful. Even for those who would say they are quite responsible would benefit from this book as the beginning of this work made clear that the more one grows in responsibilities, the more one sees one’s shortcoming and need for grace for improvement. With such an introduction I was compelled to read this all the way through.
The author Lou Priolo manage to pack so much in such a small little book! The book define what responsibility is both in the beginning of the work and at the end. There are many Scriptures cited and quoted. For instance, Priolo notes that few people are actually faithful according to Proverbs 20:6 and present to the readers how biblically unfaithfulness is described: “Like a bad tooth and an unsteady foot Is confidence in a faithless man in time of trouble” (Proverbs 25:19). The book goes over three elements of faithfulness and three tests of faithfulness that comes from the Scripture.
While this work is saturated with Scripture, it is not just a Bible study that’s theoretical; it is quite practical. I appreciate the lists of probing questions that are perfect for diagnostic of one’s own life. For example the author in the book asks readers to list out the top responsibilities one has and then to put them into categories of those one like to do and those one doesn’t want to do. Yet is one faithful even if one does not enjoy the task? He also presents evaluation for one’s excuses and makes readers think what kinds are they. I thought it was insightful of how the author observes from the Scripture the correlation between making excuses and being afraid. I don’t want to give too much of the book away but one should definitely get this book if one loves God and want to practice and renew biblical living.

Goodness has to do with what I am, including my motives. Faithfulness has to do with what I do, assuming that my motives are right.

I was pleasantly surprised and convicted by this little book on faithfulness. In acting out on what you believe you develop faithfulness over time. Faithfulness is being accountable to your responsibilities to what you have been given in materials and most important with your relationships. It also discusses what it takes to be faithful and what can hinder us from being unfaithful.

Faithfulness means you are trustworthy and dependable. It is building these traits that take time and being intentional. The opposite of faithfulness is laziness. Many things cause laziness which getting to the root is important to nip it in the bud. I was encouraged that if you have failed in being faithful, you can go back and rebuild that faithfulness. So instead of being discouraged, you can build your courage to being faithful.

Being faithful is worthy of taking a second look of what it really means and what it does not mean. How we can develop faithfulness and how we can lack.

A Special Thank you to P & R Publishing and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.

Me impulsionou a mudar urgentemente.
Um livro curto e simples, porém que ensina mais do que muitas pregações de hoje em dia.
Vale muito a pena a leitura e a reflexão.

very helpful booklet

I loved the questions at the end of each chapter. Lou Priolo is an excellent teacher who speaks to me. The topic of faithfulness is not often taught, is important, and is well explained in this gem.

Informative but not very helpful...
A kind of helpful very little booklet. It goes over faithfulnesses definition, 3 aspects/principles of and synonyms for faithfulness. It also talked briefly about its opposite which would be disobediance, laziness or fearful excuses. However, what I most wanted was how to be faithful. I know the simplest definition to do what you commit to or what is expected of you, according to what you are given or able.... but how much am I able? What specifically does God expect of me or of every believer without exception? I did like the authors lists, of examples and verses, which were helpful...but it still left me wanting and still not able to really improve in the area of faithfulness just able to define it and called lazy and with no possible excuse if I am not faithful. A pretty bold claim. But if the goal was a definition and understanding of what is faithfulness, it did do that.
