A brand-new original thriller tying in to the hit TV show, NCIS: Los Angeles. When a Navy counselor paying a home visit to a former Navy SEAL finds him inside his hose, tortured and murdered, NCIS are called in to investigate. Meanwhile, a bank hold-up goes bad downtown and an LAPD officer is shot. The cop is a friend of Deeks’, but a trace on the getaway vehicle shows no connection between the crimes, that is until NCIS dig deeper.

this was an awesome book. I love the show and the book stayed true to the show. all the characters still have their banter and wits and all around fun. my favorite characters are kensi and deeks. they have an awesome relationship both work and personal.
The list of beautiful things in this book includes but is not limited to: -Granger casually driving into a wildfire zone to collect and trailer out 3 of a friend's horses (this is an entire subplot and it's beautiful and I am still not over the extended scene of him leading their spooked horsey selves out of the barn)
-Kensi & Deeks having awesome partner banter, plus an original character deducing they're a couple based on that. And just a lot of references to their relationship status in general.
-Author willingness to use the text medium for purposes of indulgent good to take us inside Sam, Callen, Deeks and Kensi's heads regarding their thoughts on their relationships
-Callen punching Deeks out (a little too realistically) for an op, which subsequently leads to injury-tending and a schmoopy Deeks/Kensi scene (though I do not for one second believe she would attempt to call him "Marty" for any reason, what kind of inexperienced fanfic trend). Chapter 26 is a good chapter.
Even the plot is entertaining! The thread about it being related to someone Deeks knew in the LAPD is dropped almost immediately, but it's dropped in favor of Callen going undercover with a Russian buyer of illegal antiquities looted from Iraq, and a former SEAL being targeted as a possible witness to the looting, and in the course of the investigation Kensi and Deeks meet with this sweet old couple determined to help provide information any way they can, even in the face of danger. I haven't been this taken with original characters in a crime novel for a while. Betsy & Hugh! <3
What I'm saying here is, the first tie-in novel is a waste of time, but if you suffered through it for a sense of completion/order like I did, this one will make it up to you in spades.
Callen, Hanna, Deeks, and Byle are on the move as they try to stop a US Navy SEAL from being targeted, an old woman from being killed, and an ancient Iraq artifact from being sold by American mercenaries who stole it years earlier, and therefore thwarting more uneasiness between the United States and Iraq. Another action filled book that any fan of the tv show must have in their collection.
It's really not terrible, but especially toward the end I found myself doing a great deal of skimming. Lots of padding, lots of 'inner feelings', lots of dead bodies.
Very very well written!!! The detail is wonderful and not over the top when describing scenes. Felt like I was watching the show as I was reading the novel!
I’m currently watching all of the NCIS shows, so I picked up this book to see how it compared. I enjoyed it because it felt just like an episode of the show. The action, investigation, and team dynamics were all there, making it a fun and entertaining read.
