Missing Jim: Love in the Time of Alzheimer's

Love in the Time of Alzheimer's
In the spring of 2008, Jim Harvey, the author’s life partner and husband of 17 years, was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. After five years of caring for him in their home, Ann Marie and Jim found a very comfortable assisted living facility for him in Stoughton, Wisconsin, a few miles from the home they had shared. During her frequent visits with Jim the author sometimes shared passages from this book and until the last few weeks of his life he often had comments, additions, or gave his nod of approval. Throughout his years of living with Alzheimer’s Jim maintained his wry sense of humor and was able to share his insights and wisdom with many of his friends and family members. It is in the spirit of sharing this experience that Ann Marie wrote this book—not to dwell on the pain of losing a loved one to dementia but to acknowledge the love that continues even as these changes are occurring. Each chapter of this book begins with a quotation from Jim that suggests another story about who he is and about how life moves forward despite this diagnosis. Book includes a short bibliography and helpful resources.
