VAMPIRE . . . Raphael is a power like the world has never seen, the force behind the first ever alliance of North American lords, Cyn’s mate, lover, master.

SORCERER . . . Nick Katsaros, deceptively charming, ancient and commanding, driven by vengeance and a devastating loss, Cyn’s friend and one-time lover.

HUMAN . . . Cynthia “Cyn” Leighton, beautiful, sexy, and smart, the woman both men desire.

It was only a few months ago that Raphael lay helpless and dying, taken by treachery, while Cyn fought to save him. Unexpectedly, it was Nick who provided the key to his freedom. In exchange, he secured a promise that they would help him find and recover the same magical artifact that had been used to imprison Raphael. But when he calls on them to keep that promise, it will be Cyn who pays the price.

Torn between the two powerful men, struggling to keep them from killing each other, she undertakes a desperate search that will find her fighting for her life against a madman who wants her for himself.

4 Vampire Sorcerer Human Stars

 photo tumblr_lkbydjAUgO1qi3n3go1_500_zpsqyci4ven.gif

"Vampire," he said by way of greeting. "Sorcerer." "Human!" she sang out in disgust. -Nick, Raphael, and Cyn

Anytime I can get my fix of Raphael and Cyn, I'm there. I love this series so much and Raphael and Cyn make this series the awesomeness that it is. In this book we not only get Raphael and Cyn we get Nick. Nick is Cyn's ex lover and friend that was in book one. Cocky, good looking and charming Nick is someone I really enjoyed learning more about. In Compelled Raphael, Cyn and Nick are teamed up to find the missing magical manacles used to hold Raphael prisoner in the book Deception. Vampires and Sorcerers have an ugly history of trying to wipe each other off the planet, so Nick and Raphael don't get along add to that, that Nick is Cyn's ex lover and you have some major tension going on. Nick and Raphael are at each others throats and driving Cyn insane. I loved that Cyn and Raphael's relationship is still going strong. No matter how possessive Raphael is he still knows, and is proud that Cyn is tough and can take care of herself. I think this book was a build up to Nick getting his own book or at least I hope it is. I would love Nick to find his love and not be so lonely. I really enjoyed this novella. Compelled is a fun quick read with my favorite couple. I can't wait for the next book. If you haven't read the Vampires in America Series and you love PNR you should check it out!!

"I hate it when you talk to him." "I know. But I don't know why. I'm yours, fang boy. You're stuck with me." "My heart knows that, but my gut wants to kill every man who's ever touched you." "Aw, that's romantic...in a creepy, stalkerish sort of way."-Raphael and Cyn

Now, I have a couple of questions:
1) Does D.B. Reynolds have a list of who is the most powerful? Like I'm assuming Raphael is on top of the list, with Nick Katsaros, the ancient sorcerer, slightly behind him (this I'm assuming as Cyn's thoughts were "She didn’t know what kind of power he had, though she suspected Raphael, at least, could kill Nick if he tried." However, Nick himself thought "Nick was a formidable sorcerer. He could take on many of them—maybe even most of them—but even he had his limits." So can he take Raphael?) Who comes next? Duncan? Lucas? Or Christian?
2) Can Raphael ever overcome the need for sleep at day? Would it even be possible?

Now, to the story itself, I still hate the fact that Raphael was overpowered in his previous book. Even though it was with both magic manacles and over a hundred vampires focusing on keeping him captured; he was still overpowered. And needed both Cyn and Nick's help to get free. And for some idiotic reason it also bothers me that Raphael barely ever saves Cyn; she saves herself, yet Cyn many times has saved Raphael. It's not simply because he's a man and she's a woman, it's because he is a master vampire lord and she is a human. Technically speaking, the saving should come more from the vampire's side rather than the human side, yet we don't see this, as I know the author wants us to see Cyn as this badass woman - which she is -, but it would've been nice to see Raphael saving her more. I think Raphael has only saved Cyn once, and that was when she was shot. That said, my love for Raphael is so strong that the thought of someone overpowering how, or being more powerful than him, is painful. He is the number one, and for me, he needs to stay there.

First read review:
**********MIGHT CONTAIN SPOILERS**********
It would have been great fun to taunt Raphael into coming after him, to find out once and for all who really was the stronger of the two of them.

Obviously it's not surprising that I'm disappointed in this book. I do understand the need for D.B. Reynolds to make someone who can be equal in - or if not more powerful than Lord Raphael, however, that doesn't mean I have to like it. I want to know who is the strongest. As you know, I L O V E Raphael, there's no questioning that, but throughout this whole series Raphael has been the picture of power. Everyone sees him the the unique one, the one who has more power than the world has ever seen and such, and now? With Nick Katsaros entering the picture, that illusion is being slowing put down. Raphael needs, at least in my case, to be the strongest, or Raphael wouldn't be Raphael. Is that wrong to feel?
She hadn’t needed him to escape that place. But rather than making him angry, it only made him proud. Proud that such a woman was his, that she loved him the way he did her. And that she needed him now.

As for the story, I was disappointed here as well. Cynthia 'Cyn' Leighton being stupid, though I understand her reasons, just didn't fit for her. Yeah, sure, she's reckless at times, but she's strong and smart, so why suddenly do something idiotic? Though at times it interesting to see Nick and Raphael butting head, but as you know, I love Raphael and I don't want anyone threatening him, nor being a threat to him. I did love, however, that Raphael did simply not care if Nick was stronger or not, he would have taken him on either way: my baby is the best. I really hope D.B. Reynolds will gives us even more Raphael and Cyn, which are my favorite couple in this series.
“I hate it when you talk to him.”
“I know. But I don't know why. I'm yours, fang boy. You're stuck with me.”
“My heart knows that, but my gut wants to kill every man who's ever touched you.”
“Aw, that's romantic...in a creepy, stalkerish sort of way.”

Quick basic facts:
Genre: - (Adult) Paranormal Romance
Series: - Series, Book Ten and a Half
Love triangle? -
Cheating? -
HEA? -
Favorite character? - You even had to ask? Lord Raphael.
Would I read more by this author/or of series? - Yes.

I absolutely am addicted to the Vampires in America series. Addicted! I eat these dark, broody, hot, well-written paranormal romances up with a spoon. I can't get enough.

But what I love even more than the main series are the Raphael and Cyn novellas that are interspersed throughout.

First of all, D.B. Reynolds, never change the dynamic between Raphael and Cyn. I loooove how unwavering they are in their affection for one another. The fact that they are such a strong couple makes this series everything that it is.

This novella was another great little addition to the series. I loved how Cyn was such a strong, independent woman, while still being loyal and respectful to Raphael and their relationship. Cyn isn't afraid to step out on her own and problem solve, and she has the willpower, smarts, and strength to back her up.

I was curious as to how I would feel about the addition of Nick, the sorcerer, to the series. I was a little afraid that the author would veer off into the ridiculous and ruin all of her careful world-building. I was wrong. Nick was a really interesting character, and I really hope he gets his own full, stand-alone book in the series.

This novella is a must-read for all fans of this series. It is in the same vein as the other Raphael and Cyn books, and it brings up new opportunities for some offshoot books. Very well done.

Happy Book Birthday!

An exciting, fast paced and blazing hot update on one of my favorite vampire-human couples!
“She and Raphael beat with one heart, dreamed with one soul”

Even the most powerful can be rendered helpless. Raphael, one of the most formidable vampires to ever roam the earth was taken prisoner by a cunning enemy a few months back. But underestimating Raphael’s human mate and lover is always a critical mistake. She’s not just beautiful, she’s smart, resourceful and fearless and with a little help from a friend and ex-lover she was able to free Raphael.
Vampire

Compelled by a heartbreaking loss, sorcerer Nick Katsaros has been on a mission for over two millennia. Older than recorded history, he’s used to concealing not only his true identity but also intentions. By lending his friend Cyn the magical key that would unshackle Raphael, Nick no only reveals his true nature to her but also gains a favor in return.
Sorcerer

Feeling utterly alone, Nick decides to collect his favor by having Cyn and consequently Raphael help him recover the enchanted manacles. He expected he would put Cyn in a difficult spot with the vampire lord but he never imagined it would put her in peril at the hands of a lunatic collector who intends to keep her.

“Nick,” she said impatiently. “What’s your problem with Raphael?”
“He has you.”

I started reading this series a while back when all I wanted was paranormal romance and D.B. Reynolds was probably one of the first author’s I ever stalked. She is to date, one of the few I keep reading because Vampires in America is a kick ass series. It’s really great how much excitement and sexiness is rolled into this novella. I especially loved getting to know the charming, confident, flirty Nick. I enjoyed the banter between him and Cyn but was heartbroken to see just how lonely Nick is. I really hope D.B. is planning to write a book about him.

The antagonism between Raphael and Nick goes beyond the bloody history between the two species, it was understandable because of their connection to Cyn, but it only helped to magnify Cyn and Raphael’s bond and sadly aggravate Nick’s solitude.
"I hate it when you talk to him."
"I know. But I don't know why. I'm yours, fang boy. You're stuck with me."
"My heart knows that, but my gut wants to kill every man who's ever touched you."
"Aw, that's romantic...in a creepy, stalkerish sort of way."

I don’t think getting more about Cyn and Raphael will ever get old, it just gets better and better. Besides the fact that they have crazy hot attraction between them, their bond is incredibly strong and it shows just how much they know and trust each other. It’s so awesome witnessing the big alpha vampire be proud of his woman and love and respect her all the more for it.

Compelled is novella 10.5 in the Vampires in America series by D.B. Reynolds. This could probably be read as a standalone but I would strongly advise against it. The reader should at the very least read book one in the series. This story is full of alpha male displays, delicious sexiness and an exciting plot. Told from Raphael, Cyn and Nick's points of view. There's no cheating and has a happy ending.

5 Compelling Stars!!!

D.B.Reynolds delivers once again in Compelled!! We are treated to an enthralling, fast-paced, entertaining and passionate Vampires in America novella!

Two impossibly powerful alphas, who have enough distrust and hatred for one another to cause Cyn headaches are thrown together for a common goal; find the manacles that imprisoned Raphael in Deception, but will the love they share for Cyn be enough to prevent the violence they both want to unleash on one another?

Compelled photo PicsArt_1461308410478_zpsi8ighhau.jpg

“Vampire,” he said by way of greeting.
“Sorcerer.”
“Human!” she sang out in disgust. ~ Nick, Raphael, and Cyn

Cyn is called upon to uphold the promise she made to Nick to help with the locating and recovering the dangerous manacles, which were stolen in Hawaii before Nick could recover them. But no one separates Raphael from his mate, and while Nick appears to be a handsome and quick-witted human Cyn learns that her former lover is a very, very old sorcerer, and Raphael has no intention of allowing his Cyn to be alone with this sorcerer while they locate the manacles.

“I hate it when you talk to him.”
“I know. But I don’t know why. I’m yours, fang boy. You’re stuck with me.”
“My heart knows that, but my gut wants to kill every man who’s ever touched you.”
“Aw, that’s romantic…in a creepy, stalkerish sort of way.” ~ Raphael & Cyn

Subjected to two powerful alphas attempting to undermine each other, Cyn attempts to mediate during their search. But pushed to her limits, Cyn decides to retrieve the manacles from the current owner on her own and escape the constant tension between her mate and her former lover, things don’t go as planned and Raphael and Nick must work together to find Cyn before it’s too late.

As with all the books in this series, we’re treated to great dialogue, humorous moments and all the passion we expect from this captivating couple, I can’t wait for more Vampires in America books!!!

Pardon me while I release my pent up inner sixteen year old… OMG!! OMG!! OMG!!

Okay… now that I got that out of the way — OMG GUYS!! This was freaking awesome! No, really, give me a jealous, marking-my-territory, she’s-mine-not-yours Raphael any day of the week and twice on Sundays!

The fabulously snarky Nick Katsaros is in need of some help that only Cyn can supply. Too bad it comes with a hulking side of vampire. He’s on the hunt for the missing handcuffs that played a major roll in keeping Vampire Lord Rapheal captive during an ill fated takeover attempt by the European vamps. During their time together, Nick reveals some of his past to Cyn and we get a surprising look into who he really is.

I wont spoil it for you, but I will say that I am DYING for a spin off series!! I have been COMPELLED to read this three times now. YES, it’s that good! There's SO much I want to say and so many coveted plot lines I need to know about. Please oh please let Nick get his own book/series.

This is why I’m still enamored with the Vampires of America series. No end in sight and the fervor just keeps building.

5 Compelling stars!!

D.B. Reynolds, famous writer of ''Vampires in America'', is having new series!!!!

It is called ''Stone Warriors'' and first book is Damian. More about it you can read here: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

This novela'' Compelled'' is some sort of long prolouge for it. With a dose of hot, hot, hot! relationship between Raphael and Cyn.
They are one of my favourite couples, so before reading this book I did reread of ''Raphael'' and ''Jabril'' (again).

Cyn is strong heroine and you just can't help yourself with loving her. And then we have Raphael. This strong, Alpha male, sexy vampire. Somehow this two just suck you in their story and they don't let you go.

If you read ''Deception'' (part 9 in ''Vampires in America''series) you will understand why Cyn and Raphael need to help Nick. Yes, yes- that Nick. Hot friend of Cyn from book one.
Also he is sorcerer. But don't let me spoiler this one too much for you.

All in all, I am very excited about new series and I want to read ''Damian'' so, so much!!!!!

4.5 Stars - Fantastic! Raphael defies description - a powerful, seriously sexy alpha male/Lord Vampire. And more than that...such a good man. His mate, Cyn, is a force to be reckoned with on her own, but at Raphael's side, they are unstoppable. In this novella, Nick - a powerful sorcerer & Cyn's former lover - calls in the favor Raphael owes him for helping save his life in the last book. The hate radiating between these two men is explosive and a mystery to Cyn as she is in the dark about their past. After a few days of listening to them snarl at each other, she decides to take things in her own hands with devastating results. It will take both men working together to get her out of this one!

The only complaint I have with this book is the length...I wanted more! Compelled is a great, "compelling" read! A Page Burner! Loved it!

The "action" part of this story is mundane, but the passion between Cyn and Raphael is off the charts. It is more than the sex that defines their love affair; their need for each other is primal, as if one could not breathe without the other. I feel great affection for the couple. Each on their own is a compelling character, but together they make each other better. Furthermore, I love Nick. Ms. Reynolds leads us down a path that suggests that there is another series in the works. I certainly hope it is true.

Thank you to the author, publisher, and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Compelled is yet another excellent addition to the Cyn and Raphael love story. As with any book or novella in this series featuring these two I can never seem to get enough. I love them together and I love how their love and bond has grown over the course of this series. In Compelled Cyn's former lover Nick whom we found out in the previous book is an ancient sorcerer calls her to help him locate the magical artifact that was used on Raphael. Of course this leads to lots of tension, jealousy, possessiveness, and some sexy times. Nick is super yummy and I can't wait for the spin off series featuring his men and I really hope he gets his own book.

Compelled breathes fresh air into the Vampires in America series with an adventure-filled story involving the enigmatic sorceror Nick Katsaros, Cyn’s on-and-off lover before she became Raphael’s mate. I hope we see more of Nick or even a spin-off series about his missing warriors.

At this point in any other series I would have begun to feel the tentacles of series fatigue creeping upon me. However, with Vampires in America, DB Reynolds keeps the series invigoratingly fresh. With each installment she manages to add in new character dynamics or story elements that draws readers even deeper into the world of the Vampire lords, and the women who claim them. Although us lovers of the series are always eager for the next full length book in the series, Reynolds's novella are literary appetizers that leave us hungering for the full (length) course.

In Compelled we see a side of Nick, Cyn's one-time boy-toy, in a whole new light. Contained in Christian's story line was a teaser into the true Nick. We discovered that he was much more than human, and his "moreness" ends up coming to Raphael and Cyn's aid when they truly needed it. Of course, in the world of paranormals, there are no favors ... but markers. And Nick calls in that marker in Compelled, and requests Cyn, and by extension Raphael's, help in finding the manacles that Raphael's enemy Mathilde used to imprison him in Christian. Although Compelled was a novella length story it was no less impactful than the full length books in the series. Nick is on a mission to find the manacles, yes. But greater than that, he is on a mission to save his imprisoned warrior brethren. More on that, I'm sure, in future books.

Even though we are as far into the series as we are, we actually learn that Cyn is "something more" than we originally thought as well. Got your attention with that one, huh? You have got to pick up this story to find out just "what" for yourself.

My appreciation for this series just continues to grow with each passing book and I highly recommend it to paranormal romance lovers.

My Thoughts - 5 out of 5 Unicorns - I loved it!!
***Received ebook from Belle Books for an honest review

This is a novella in the Vampires in America series. It falls after Christian in the series. I highly recommend reading everything in order including all the novellas and short stories. Everything clicks together much more cohesively and is just awesome when you aren’t missing details. I don’t know about you, but I hate when something is mentioned in a book that happened and I don’t know what happened. Details are important to me, and D.B. Reynolds books are always action packed and full of well everything a vampire loving paranormal addict wants.

This story picks up the search for the handcuffs. Raphael and Nick use the word vampire and sorcerer like they are cussing at each other. The tension and hate is extreme at times. Cyn is fabulous as always. I love her spirit and passion for everything.

I highly recommend everything because I think I’ve read almost everything there is to read by her and have yet to find something I didn’t thoroughly enjoy and love. I can’t wait to start the new series where is a spin-off about Nick’s stone friends.

Spoilers ahead, 2.5*

Cyn's ex Nick needs help to locate the manacles that were used to imprison Raphael. When we first met Nick he appeared human but turns out he's a powerful sorcerer. They track down the guard who sold the manacles and Cyn in a really reckless and dumb move, broke into the collector's house and was captured but then managed to kill him.
Lots of bickering between Raphael and Nick and some moments I didn't like of Nick reminiscing on his time with Cyn. I'm not a fan of exes in my books but this was more a set up of the spin off series of Nick's warriors. There wasn't anything added to the plot if the vampires. It was ok but just felt like filler.

Raphael & Cyn owe Nick Katsaros a debt for his assistance in freeing Raphael from the clutches of Mathilde in an attempted coup by the European vampires. Not a small thing when you consider Raphael is the Vampire Lord controlling most of the west coast US and influential for the remainder of the North American continent.

Receiving a call from Nick, Cyn is obligated to repay her debt though Raphael would rather take care of the debt by eliminated Nick permanently from the face of the Earth. Nick and Cyn have history in a friends with benefits sort of way and Raphael's not about to let Cyn be anywhere around Nick without him being there too.

Regardless, Cyn & Raphael need to assist Nick, an ancient sorcerer, as a magical object used to imprisson Raphael in the wrong hands could be dangerous and deadly. Better to find and destroy it and hope the two alpha men don't land up killing each other first.

* * * *

This is a bridge installment in the series that introduces a spin off series "Stone Warriors" debuting June 15, 2016. And for those who ask the question regarding if one could read THIS installment without having read any of the previous Vampires In America installments.... Nope. Not even a chance. Even though it's a sort of prequel for the spin off series, a reader has to be aware of the relationship dynamics between the characters and the history leading up to the events contained in this one.

With all that being said. Cyn & Raphael are the paranormal world power couple extraordinaire. I'm thrilled that I got my fix of these two but (and I can't believe I'm saying this) there was something missing for me between the two. Sure the author provided the ongoing formula that makes them so dynamic and yes the adult content scenes were pretty intense but something was missing. I really can't put my finger on what though.

On to the new character (who really isn't new) Nick. Nick has made previous appearances because he was Cyn's friends with benefits occasional lover. Turns out ho hum Nick has been hiding secrets, but then again so is Cyn. It will be interesting to see who HIS future love interest will be but that's in the future so readers shouldn't expect very much depth there. A lot of teasers and hints but no real meat and potatoes content.

My overall impression of this installment is that life is good when I get my hands on a D.B. Reynolds book and get my fix of Cyn & Raphael. And today was a really good day indeed. Now to mark my calendar and pre-order Damian.

If you've followed this series from its inception then you will be well acquainted with Nick the long time friend and occasional bed partner of Cyn. That all changed when she fell for the vampire Lord Raphael of course but if you've read the book Deception you will be aware that Nick wasn't always particularly upfront with Cyn. Nick is a powerful sorcerer and he's back to ask Cyn to keep her promise but guess what? Where Cyn goes so too does Raphael and these two alpha lug heads are about to clash big time with Cyn caught in the middle !
Another top notch addition to this series with a vampire, a sorcerer and a human all coming together to bring a truly delicious and often funny quick read. The enmity between Raphael and Nick pulsates off the page and let's be honest Cyn isn't really cut out to be a peacemaker so what could possibly go wrong? Well no spoilers but you won't be disappointed and oo this allows the author to go off and create a whole new series. Not read this series yet? If you enjoy paranormal romance you are well and truly missing out!

So, we don't get much forward progression in the overall Vamps in America story arc with this one. There are a few nods to Christian taking power in the South and Sophia's troubles in Canada, but not much more than 1 line regarding each (so don't feel bad if you haven't read Christian).

This is more of a follow up to Deception and the problems Raphael & Cyn faced in Hawaii when he was captured by Mathilde.

Nick Katsaros, Cyn's previous on & off lover, is back and calling in the favor to help retrieve the manacles that enslaved Raphael. Of course, he tries to be charming and simply a pain in Raphael's ass most of the time. As a big bad sorcerer, he really shouldn't need their help, but they had promised.

There's a few sexcapades between Raphael & Cyn, mostly Raphael reasserting his possessiveness after being provoked by Nick, so mostly hard & fast with very little extra.

We do get a bit of a set up regarding Nick's past that *could* spin off into either another series, or at least series of novellas. Should be interesting to see where that story arc goes.

Love Cyn and Raphael's continuing love story but when you add Nick (Cyn 's fuck-buddy) to the mix then you have an explosion.
Trying to find the magic handcuffs which detained Raphael in Deception turns into a dick-measuring contest between Raphael and Nick (my money is on Raphael) which leads to Cynthia taking matters into her own hands which leads to some difficulty on her part.
We get to know more about Nick who seems to be a lonely person looking for love or peace within himself.
Great story. Too short!

A visit with Cyn and Raphael always is a treat. Add in Cyn's friend and former lover Nick, and interesting fireworks ensue.

The story ostensibly is about the three tracking down the magical manacles used in the previous book to bind Raphael. But it's really an opportunity to delve a bit deeper into Nick's past and set up a side series with him and his sorcerer's world. The only off note was an act of supreme stupidity on one character's part. But all's well that ends well, and I look forward to reading the new series centered around Nick and his sorcerer brothers-in-arms.

COMPELLED was a good way to enter a new series about magic and the search for 4 warriors turned to stone thousands of years ago. Although, for me, the better of all was seeing again Cyn and Raphael, the most romantic of the couples.

I’m anxious to know about Damian, the first warrior of this new series. It made me sad knowing about these warriors from Nick; more than his warriors, Damian and the other 3 guys, were his friends and it moved me to see how Nick suffers not knowing where they are so he can rescue them.

Fanfuckingtastic. An excellent addition to one of my favourite series of all time, as always I think the book was too short but that's because I want to live in this world forever. D.B. Reynolds is such a talent with words and worlds that I want to live in her head. Until next time.
