The Justified Sin
By Harpreet Makkar
Review By Ila Garg

The Justified Sin is a mushy romance novel by the debutant writer Harpreet Makkar is published by Author’s Empire Publishers. Let’s begin with the title and the cover. I liked the title before I actually read the book. It sounded interesting, however, soon after I finished off the book, I realised that the title nowhere links to the plot of the story. The cover is simple, sombre, but nowhere reflects the storyline.

The author, Harpreet Makkar was a Senior Design Engineer in one of the top MNC’s of the country till the moment he decided to quit and devote his time to his family and pursuing his passion of writing. Along with writing, he joined his Dad’s business. The Justified Sin is his literary debut.

The blurb reads as, ‘What do you call it when three beautiful women come in your life, but you are still single? What if they all, at some point, tried to entice you, but you feel like committing suicide because of loneliness? What do you call it when you made no mistake, but still, you feel guilty as sin?

Jay had a common life until Saloni, Prachi and Vineeta came in his life and changed everything.

At times, he avoided the love that knocked at his door, and when he actually needed it, the same love kicked him.

He betrayed… He got betrayed.
He rejected… He got rejected.

From being shot in the back by Prachi's father to getting intimate with Vineeta under the influence of alcohol, his life was as spicy as those masala Bollywood movies!

He was getting used to his life, until one night, he decides to jump off a building and end everything...’

The story revolves around the life of Jay and the three ladies in his life - childhood friend Saloni, his best friend’s girlfriend - Prachi and his doctor - turned - girlfriend Vineeta. While two of them wanted him and he ignored them, the third girl that he wanted, left him astray. It is tough to understand the other gender and establish a bond. You will realize this once again after reading The Justified Sin.

The book is nice and engaging. It is a saga of love and betrayal. The narrative skills of the author are indeed commendable. Despite of a hell lot of grammatical errors, the readers manage to reach the end due to the well written plot. What disappointed me was the fact that I even found few errors in the Author’s Bio: It is written ‘perusing his passion of writing’ however, it should be ‘pursuing his passion of writing’. Perhaps, it can be ignored though.

The 158 page book comprises of 32 chapters. The reason why I loved the book is its plot. The way he juggles between the three girls in search of love, belongingness, is described nicely.

There are some interesting events occurring in the course of the novel too. For instance, the way Saloni dominates him and keeps coming to his home to meet his mother and he goes to meet her mother, the way Prachi and Jay’s relation starts taking shape, and he ends up in bed with Vineeta.

The too many dilemmas of Jay’s life is just one of the reasons you want to keep turning the pages to find out what happens in The Justified Sin. It is not every day that you encounter a guy like Jay who is so confused, doesn’t believe in the concept of love, ignores a beautiful girl like Saloni, has a rich dad who never says no to him, gets shot by Prachi’s dad and survives! It is in that sense a story full of upheavals.

To find out whether Jay chooses to follow his dreams of DCE in spite of the hurdles or resolves to give up and come back for love, comes out as a savior or surrenders to his fate, he gets his love or not, he is able to discover the true love and friendship of Saloni or not, how he reacts to the gunshot by Prachi’s dad, who he ends up with in the end: Saloni, Prachi or Vineeta; you will have to read the novel, The Justified Sin.

Few pointers: The author should have given his script for a proofreading. The language is good, however presentation needs improvement. I can’t imagine a father always agreeing with his son no matter what, this made him look unreal. Also, I felt somewhere Shaurya’s character (Jay’s best friend) could have been given a little more space. I felt some connecting points were also missing in the book.

Best wishes to the debut author, Harpreet Makkar for writing this one. Awaiting many more such stories in future. Kunal Marathe and Author’s Empire indeed did a nice job with the paper quality and cover quality. The colours of cover are nice, printing is awesome too. Way to go!

Author's Empire is publishing lots of book these days which is compelling readers to pick it up because it gives an impression of one of the major publishing house in the commercial fiction genre. Though their books are average according to my taste, I still pick their new books because the way they represent it through cover pages, synopsis and online promotions. It gives you a confidence of an amazing read. I havent found any epic book still by them but I am positive that I will, very soon. I just finished reading The Justified Sin by another debutant, Harpreet Makkar. The title name is amazing which attracted me towards the book. Once again, the quality of publishing is retained by the publisher.

SYNOPSIS:-

What do you call it when three beautiful women come in your life, but you are still single? What if they all, at some point, tried to entice you but you feel like committing suicide because of loneliness? What do you call it when you made no mistake but still, you feel guilty as sin? Jay had a common life until Saloni, Prachi and Vineeta came in his life and changed everything. At times, he avoided the love that knocked at his door and when he actually needed it, the same love kicked him. He betrayed, He got betrayed, He rejected, He got rejected. From being shot in the back by Prachis father to getting intimate with Vineeta under the influence of alcohol, his life was as spicy as those masala Bollywood movies. He was getting used to his life, until one night, he decides to jump off a building and end everything.

Coming to the author, I would say that he has good writing skill which makes it easy for readers to understand whatever he is trying to convey. I am also happy that he didn't compromise over editing the story which has given an accurate direction to the flow of it. He have not done anything to pretend himself as an intellectual or vocabulary master. He has kept it straight that he's just telling a story which does not need complex sentences and terrific usage of words. I didn't like the story as such because it has been a long time since people are writing books which tells how the protagonist keeps falling in love yet again and again. The three small affairs that are mentioned in 158 pages novel makes it harder to create any impact and impression on the reader's mind for any of the affairs. I would still rate the first affair with Saloni as the best described but the way other two love affairs are cut short irritated me. It would have been no problem if the book would have extended to another 100 pages or so but not letting the story speak openly kills the excitement that the reader can experience.

I would like to compare The Justified Sin with Three Times Loser by Akash Verma as both are written on the same lines. But Three Times Loser was brilliantly written giving importance to each of the three girls who came in the protagonist's life. Here, the central theme itself loses its purpose as nothing is well defined once the first story ends. There's no problem in writing a love story but if there is no philosophy or message attached to it or say, amazing lines/quotes that stay with you for a long time, then there's no meaning because a love story is everyone's own life's story; no one will spend 3-6 hours in reading the same thing. I would only suggest the author to try something differently the next time he decides to script a book. For now, just 1.5 stars that I can give to this very book.

Thanks.

The Justified Sin is a story which revolves
around a boy name ,Jaydeep . Jay fall in love but
feared to accept his feelings and tag it as ‘
love ‘ . A story about an ordinary boy who
somehow walked towards the dead ends and
started living a life of regression , despondency ,
mistakes who he called and thought ‘ sin ‘ .
When Jay hopes for the best he faces the worst .
It is a story which will make you to wander into
his world and which will compel you to do the
calculations of wanting to know more about him
and his life .

The author ,HarpreetMakkar has done a great job
from choosing up the most appropriate title to
the catchy book cover to the story line . But my
take , I truly believed the story justified it’s title .
Hence , it kept me hook till the last . The urge of
knowing the sin made by the protagonist was
the trademark of the book . Not only the story
but the characters were also good .

From the book , the three characters left the
impression on my mind and I loved them the
most . Jay , the Punjabi guy ; brought up in an
affluent family still very down to earth. He
reflects all the emotions which one boy have and
go through . Jay somewhere changed my
perception regarding boys but still somewhere I
felt disappointed by his acts like being baffled
when he knows he could have made the
situation a better one . The second one ,Saloni ;
she is not a girl whom you should fall once but
daily . Mark my word ‘ daily ‘ . She was a strong
character gripping the entire thread , as a best
friend , as a person you will always count on .
Lastly , Jay’s father ; indeed a true gentleman
and a good father .

The overall story was good but it got disdain in
the initial pages but still it hooked me till the last
. It let me do a lot of mental wok from the
beginning to the ending . You will be flummoxed
but the climax will be flabbergasted .

If you ask me personally the most beautiful part
of the story , I would tell you the relationship
shared between Jay and his father . It was a
lyrical , these two were so synchronized ; that I
felt the author has portrayed his bonding with
his father into this lovely tale . I feel connected
to this very part .

The rhythm of the book was simple as well as
the language was simple and readable . As I
flipped the pages the book send me positive
vibes , the love of family , love of friends and
feeling of being together with that very friend
and yes it made me believe in love again . Love
will simple follow you , you just have to listen to
your heart .

In spite of all , I felt there were few sections
which could have been worked out in a more
better way . Author have kept it in his mind to
make the book understandable but still he could
have tried more crispy language .

If you think you’re so just unlucky to have your
loved one in our life , I would recommend this
book to you ; the lost faith can be regained .
Girls , if you think all boys are same , then read
this book ; trust me some boys do feel and live
in a life of guilt .

I rate this book a 3.5 out of 5 . I am thankful to
know about the importance of everything in our
life .

Thanks Faraah mam , for recommending this
wonderful book and Harpreet Sir , I wish to read
more from you .

"A true relationship is with someone who accepts your past, supports your present and encourages your future"
The Justified Sin by Mr.Harpreet Makkar is his first novel. He had written it wonderfully the narration of the book is nice and if we talk about the USP of the book then the designing of the cover is something people would find it implausible 5 stars for that and another USP would be the title of the book which is eyecatcher. The book is all about the teist and turn in the life of the character JAY.In the book all the characters i.e. Jay and his family,Saloni and her family,Shaurya,Prachi and Varsha are well crafted you will feel connected to them in certain ways. The language used in the book is simple so you would not need the dictionary to find the meaning of it as it would be easy for you to understand what messages are conveyed and narrated and what it says is love and friendship goes hand in hand .The bonding of friendship between Jay and Shaurya or the bonding between Jay and Saloni or relationship between Jay and his father has been shown exquisitely.Saloni is the most important character in Jay's life as she accepts his parts and supports him and as its said that a woman knows the face of the man she loves as a sailor knows the open sea so here in this case she takes care of him and is always there for him whenever he wants. The book is all about love and betrayal but what would you do if love knocks your door thrice? The character juggles between 3 girls i.e. Saloni,Prachi and Varsha in search of love what he gets in return sometimes he reject the true love or sometimes he gets rejected and he feels guilty about the some decisons he took in his life as he thinks that he had committed a "sin" by doing that.Where Saloni is described as his childhood friend,Prachi as his friend's girlfriend and Varsha being his doctor and the author has narrated how at some point of time he feels for this 3 ladies.Overall you would be able to relate this as today's generation thinks that love is like this it is not like forever and ever!
The story sometimes get too filmy when he got shot by Prachi's father and he survived or when father is saying to never leave a girl like Saloni or leaving the business and getting a job in Bangalore just because you like your doctor. It was somewhere like love haunting game.
According to me what i didnt like is that the ending was something which i didnt felt much connected too rather didnt understood it and somewhere the story was predictable except the ending part but yes author has done has job in the commendable manner so for him 3.5 stars.
P.S.Do read the book "Justified Sin" as love is a wonderful sin that knocks our door so why not to commit this sin:P

A gripping story sprinkled with multiple twists in between the chapters, The Justified Sin: Now Love Has a New Definition, is a good read for those who want to start with the art of book reading. However, the predictability of the book was throughout on edge.
The book depicts a situation which can literally take place in anybody’s life but you have got to be strong to go through any emotional or physical turmoil that life throws at you. And whatever it is, any pain that you are going through, it gets okay in the end. Also, if you have a family that loves and supports your every decision, you can actually get through any situation. I adored the protagonist’s family in the book.
He literally does all that he could to find one true love even when it meant hurting himself and sometimes even people who loved him and yet some situation rises up and he has to struggle with the outcome of putting in such efforts for others and getting nothing in the end, well, you have to read the book to find out.
Maybe, if he had put a check on his insecurities and a habit of latching his own happiness on others, life would have been different but that’s one perspective of seeing a person. The writer tried to connect with his audience at some level was successful in doing so, considering the emotional theme of the book which a person with quarter life crisis usually can relate to.
Also, another sin committed by the author apart from constantly going through a tornado of heart breaks was bad grammar. A book could be about anything but bad grammar. Also, better choice of words would have totally accelerated the narration of the story.
Nonetheless, the simplicity with which the author had illustrated the intensity of close relationships is commendable and that it brings out the everyday hustle that a regular man goes through and how throughout his journey of falling in and out of love, he gets back up every time and gives his all to another chance of finding true love which just doesn’t seem to come at bay.
This book is for everyone who has been a good friend, son, lover, or a brother, yes; it has got something for everyone. Overall, it is a good read, of course, if you aren’t too much of a grammar Nazi!
Let’s just hope that the next one from the author doesn’t leave the book lovers bruised with a heart wrecking English but continue to keep his simple style of telling a story intact.

The First thing that you notice about a book is its cover. The cover of 'The Justified Sin' is interesting enough to suit the Title of the book.
The story is about the love life of the protagonist, Jay. The story revolves around Jay's love interests - Saloni, Prachi and Varsha (yes, there are three of them.)
Jay is a guy indecisive and nonchalant in nature. Throughout the book, Jay comes across choices and makes wrong choices. His indecisiveness makes him change plans at the end moment. And this costs him his life, of course.
Right in the start of the book, Jay is seen trying to commit suicide when he meets a girl to whom he narrates the whole story of his life.

The book has a simple not-so-intricate plot with simple characters. An easy read for some.
The things I liked about the book are :-
- Good understanding between father and the son has been portrayed throughout.
- The bond of friendship between Jay and Saloni is really a special one. And is described beautifully at various points In the book.
- There are good verses at various parts. My favourite lines are :
Jaa raha hu mai tujhe chhod ke,
Ye mat sochna ki bhul jaunga..
Tujhe pyar kiya tha,
Ek umeed rakhna, ek yakeen rakhna,
Ek din wapis aaunga..

Coming to the narrative skills, i feel the author still needs to improve a lot on this one. Also, the editing of the book is very poor. In fact, it looks like it hasn't been edited at all.
At various points in the book, SMS lingo is used, which is a little annoying. And the grammatical errors are uncountable.
The story is very slow paced in the first half of the book. Whereas, in the second half it seems to be rushed.

On the quality of the paperback, the paper quality is very poor. This might put you off a little.

Overall, it was an average read.

I would give this book 2.5/5 stars.

And I would suggest this book to anyone who wants to have a short and light read.

Book Name- The Justified Sin
Author Name- Harpreet Makkar
Genre- Romance Fiction
Pages- 200

Review- This is the debut novel of the Author, Harpreet Makkar and as a debutant he has done quiet good job. Author has good narrating skills which keeps the reader hooked till the end

Book Title and Cover- Book Title is catchy but after reading the title reader may feel its a crime thriller also book cover is good but nowhere matches with the storyline.

Language- Language is simple but attractive and easily understandable. Even the new readers will find it easy to read.

Narration- Author has good narrative skills, this is the reason i was turning pages after pages and read the book in one go. Storyline and plot of the book is strong. Author succeeded to penned down the emotions of the protagonist which i am sure every guy has experienced once in the life time. Friendship between Saloni and Jay, the initiation of Jay and Prachi's relation, relation between Jay and his dad were written beautifully.

Character- Characters are Jaydeep Saloni Prachi Varsha Shaurya  Jay's dad and other family members.
Characters were given the fair amount of importance, however Jay's father who always supports him and never says no to anything was unrealistic and filmy.

There are few technical problems in the novel and reader keep missing the quotes in the book. Ending was not that perfect, i wanted to feel the ending but author ended up early and i kept missing ending even after the end.

Ratings-
Book title and Cover- 3/5
Language Justification- 4/5
Character Justification- 4/5

Final Rating- 4/5

So this the romance fiction with magic touch of friendship and relations and emotions. You can grab your copy on Flipkart Amazon and other online sites and bookstores near you.

The title “Justified Sin”, a debut work of fiction, does spark a bit of a suspense which is immediately put aside when the very relatable engineering – friendship - love story begins. The plot deals with some interesting characters beyond the protagonist who is a turbulent young student dealing with the ups and downs of emotions and attachment that each girl in his life brings forth. The narrative is dealt with utmost honesty although with a lackluster style almost taking a brutal tone as one meets the depth of the personality who is called Jay and as his life twists and turns through various phases of growing up – high school, college, and then a job, the needs he feels and the women he falls for change subtly.
In a most fascinating description of the confused and ever attracted mind of young adult also reflected in the oscillating language and SMS- spelling, this novella manages to keep the reader invested in the priorities of the protagonist, the pitfalls of his fate and by the end succeeds in the reader rooting for the character’s life to rise from the depths of tragedy to a fulfilling romance. It deals with several important themes of the urban middle class, subtle gender roles as perceived by Jay, reflection and self critical doubts, growing up, and the search for peace in the rigmarole of a bustling city life forever falling into the traps of workaholism and alcoholism. The pace and the form of the story changes according to the mood of the character and familiarizes the reader with the twenty first century youth’s slangs and clash of languages and cultures. Overall, The Justified Sin has a very relatable plotline to the young minds and a window to this perspective for the readers beyond their 30s.

Review:
This book revolves around life of Jay and three girls who enter his life, the one who is destined to be with him and how he finally gets her forever after, this is the story all about!
Story goes simple and normal in first six chapters, thereafter nothing seems normal. It feels like Jay is going on a roller-coaster ride full of emotions and feelings. At times story is fun and at times it clitches the wounds of lonliness.
As a debut author, Harpreet has potrayed his narration quiet well! Long way ahead. Editing mistakes are to be eyed upon seriously. Lets have a look at pros and cons of this book!

Positive punches:
• Narration is quiet good, its hard to put down.
• The way author has described the feelings of Jay, you can take my word while reading this you will feel yourself being in place of Jay.
• Blurb is descriptive and gives a required sneek peek in the story. Builds curiosity.

Negative Nudge:
• The book cover is not related with the story, although can attract readers.
• Editing mistakes are taking toll on this work!

Ratings:
3.5/5. (Must read for those who prefer romance.)

Overall it was a good to read book! All the best to author and team! You can order your copy at:

Review:

'The Justified Sin'- The title is so intriguing that I picked up this book reading the title itself. However, I feel sad to mention that the title and the story do not go in hand with each other. It appears quite mature for this story. The second thing that attracted me the most is the attractive cover. I must really praise the cover designer for the awesome work she has done.

Moving on to the story, the plot is kind of predictable at many places. I cam across many situations where closure to certain events haven't been done and the same event has been brought up at a later stage and discussed (A real turnoff!) Confusion will arise in the minds of the readers. He will surely feel lost somewhere, during the reading session. The characters are crafted well and yes, I felt connected to most of them.

Likes:

Jay and his father's relationship.
Cover Design.

Dislikes:

There have been many occurances of SMS words and typing errors. Also, editing suffers at many places.

I rate:
Cover: 4/5
Characters: 3/5
Story: 2.5/5

On the whole, I rate The Justified Sin with 3/5 stars.

I went through " The Justified Sin " at one go... in philosophical term sin cannot be justified, but some sins are justified...You can call the sky the ground if you want, but it's still the sky. You can call a circle a square, but it's still a circle. Truth cannot be changed. You can lie, and deceive people concerning what the truth really is; but you cannot change the truth. Truth is intolerable, irrefutable and precious. I love the truth... I don't always enjoy hearing the truth, and it sometimes hurts badly to know it, but I must have the truth if I am to live for God.We live in a world of truth packaged in lies... I love the novel and liked it the way you have put up the character ... especially the Character "JAY" resembles somewhat related to me , quite similar to me ... and it is the reason i liked it... "Tuje chaha sanam khuda se bhi jyada...manga na tha tujse kuch tere bas se jyada...ek umeed thi, ek yakeen tha, milegi ek din... Toot gyi wo umeed...toot gaya wo yakeen"...I want more from you... Keep it up ...

Starting from the cover, quite interesting and well-designed cover and will make anyone mood to go through the book who loves romance. A catchy title but as per my opinion the title and the cover doesn’t relate with the story. Being very good with the narration, somewhere the author did not matched the expectation on keeping the readers completely involved in the story but The way author has described the feelings of Jay, you can take my word while reading this you will feel yourself being in place of Jay. The twist and turns were good but not that enthralling but some scenes are quite gripping.
The book shows the hard work of a new Author and being written on very easy language makes it a quite good read. A very Good luck to Harpreet makkar. The Justified Sin Now Love has a new definition by Harpreet Makkar

The justified sin by harpreet makkar
Rating 3/5
Charecter: jay shaurya saloni prachi vineeta n family members
Desc: jay has a sweet confused as in teen related role having friends like shaurya and saloni are everyones dream. The story revolves around his relationship and confused heart whenever he thinks he is in love something or the other happens and having a cool dad like his is the best charecter
The best part of the book is its first part where innocent friendship and love is formed fight between friends are discussed. It made me want to complete the reading in single go.
-ve ones: there are few pages repeated in chp 15
The first half potrays a strong emotions which does not have an impact in other half. Saloni abruptly vanishes in first half but d story is continued in later part but it keeps the user hanged. A section of honor killing wasn't required.
But overall it was an ok to read ;-)

The Justified Sin Now Love has a new definition by Harpreet Makkar

Harpreet Makkar weaves a story about friendship, love and betrayal. The prologue, where the protagonist is shown on the verge of suicide, keeps the readers hooked to the book.
The book also portrays a wonderful relationship between Jay and his father. He has always been there for Jay; he knows all his flaws and yet never turns judgmental about him.
Throughout the story, Jay is seen as a confused person, refusing to accept his feelings, and when he does so it is too late. He is possessive about Saloni, enjoys his conversations with Prachi and likes the company of Varsha, and yet he finds himself alone and suicidal.
The end is quite moving and unexpected.

I will rate it 3 out of 5.

Thanks to Lab Academia Book Reviewer club for sending me a review copy of the book and Congratulations to the author for being a best seller and for coming out with your second edition. Cover of the book is appealing but what I got is something different from what is used as a cover. Blurb of the book makes the book exciting and leaves you with a question mark and it makes you reading the book in one go. It started with a friendship of Jay and Saloni, and the incidents were beautifully written. Read more at http://pavitrasinghwrites.blogspot.in...

The story is simply and nice. Language is easy to understand. The way Jay’s life keep on turning after every incident is interesting. But, the story was quite predictable. There were some grammatical errors as well. However, apart from these few points, this book can be considered as a nice read.
