La Primera Presidencia y el Quórum de los Doce Apóstoles han establecido la serie Enseñanzas de los Presidentes de la Iglesia con el fin de que sirva a los miembros de la Iglesia para que profundicen su comprensión de la doctrina del Evangelio y se acerquen más a Jesucristo por medio de las enseñanzas de los profetas de esta dispensación. Este libro contiene las enseñanzas del presidente Heber J. Grant, que fue Presidente de La Iglesia de Jesucristo de los Santos de los Últimos Días desde noviembre de 1918 hasta mayo de 1945.

Los Santos de los Últimos Días serán bendecidos al aplicar a su vida las enseñanzas del presidente Grant. Él puso de relieve lo siguiente: “Ninguna medida de conocimiento, de inspiración y testimonio con respecto a la divinidad de la obra de Dios nos resultará provechosa si no ponemos ese conocimiento en práctica en nuestro diario vivir. No es el caudal de conocimiento que posea la persona lo que la beneficiará a ella y a sus semejantes, sino la aplicación práctica que haga de ese conocimiento”.

I had no realized that President Grant had been the prophet for such a long time! His presidency spanned the end of World War 1 to the end of World War 2. What a time to be alive and be responsible for leading Christ's church!!

I learned in this book how persistent President Grant was. He got a hold of an idea and didn't let go. I loved how he sounded so real. He just said things as it was. At one point, he said something like, "It's wonderful how I meet people in my travels who are amazed and touched by the dedication and faith of the Saints to their religion. They say that the Saints are the most honest, religious, and faithful people we've ever known. I bet they'd be shocked to learn about how many of you don't even pay your tithing!!" And he'd say other things to the effect of, "come on, guys! I mean, really! You know this, so why aren't you doing it? I know you can do it! Just get up and get going!" He talked a lot about the Word of Wisdom and flat out called people out for disregarding it and trying to justify their way around it. (Ironically, as I got to the W of W chapter, I had just scarffed down maybe 9 "fun sized" candy bars. I laughed out loud at God's sense of humor.) (Also, providentially, as I picked up the book to finish it today, I realized the chapter I was on was about the Constitution of the United States and our duty as citizens of nations to be true to the laws of those nations. It's the 4th of July. So God also has His hands in the details of our lives.)

I really enjoyed this book which is a compilation of gospel teachings by President Heber J. Grant, organized topically. I particularly enjoyed President Grant's teaching about perseverance, hard work, the fact that we are the architects of our own lives, and how God can and will help us overcome obstacles as we keep the commandments. I also enjoyed his teachings about prayer, tithing, and the Word of Wisdom. His testimony of Jesus Christ, the restoration of the gospel and the Prophet Joseph Smith, and the future of the church were also inspiring and edifying. I really hope I can become the kind of person with the drive, commitment, determination, faith, generosity, and hard work of President Grant. An inspiring life and a remarkable man. I know he was a prophet of God and taught the true gospel of Jesus Christ.

These books are a series, which are published to be used in Sunday School in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It's pretty cool that we kind of sum up the words of these prophets into these manuals. Pres. Grant was prophet between WWI and WWII. He knew that a lot of people don't accept Christ as a literal God and Son of God, but he said that "others with clearer insight, begotten by experience, behold Him as the originator of a system that promotes industry, honesty, truth, purity, and kindness; that upholds law, favors liberty, is essential to it, and would unite men in one great brotherhood." Excellent book. Grand person.

If there was one word to describe President Grant, it would be "persistence". He effort to become a local pitching sensation, a celebrated 'scribbler', a respectable singer, and an honored businessman all attest to his strength of character and not to some in-born talent. Reading of his life and teachings have strengthened my resolve to work harder and longer towards my worthy goals.

This served as a good manual to study for priesthood. Heber J. Grant was the president of the Church when my Mom was growing up. He died in 1945. He was president during the Great Depression.
I read every lesson in an attempt to gain as much knowledge from this program as possible.

I really read the one on Gordon B. Hinckley but could not figure out how to add it to Goodreads. There is no one like President Hinckley! Chapters on Learning, Atonement, and Reaching out to others were my favorites.

Kudos to the editors of this book because the chapters flow so well with the talks from which the quotes are derived. I enjoyed the personal stories that President Grant related.

This is another great book in a series of biographies of the presidents of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I learned a lot about President Heber J. Grant.
