When You Touch Me

Rate this book
Family woes bring Jillian Logan home to Mimosa Key, but she faces more trouble in her new job as a massage therapist at the Casa Blanca Resort in Barefoot Bay. Right away she’s given a special assignment: a wounded soldier who is a good-looking player with sex appeal and who threatens to throw her delicately balanced life off-kilter.

Sam Hartman, AKA Hart Throb, views the beach as just another sandbox all too reminiscent of the hellhole where he was injured. And the alternative therapies that Jillian offers him? He considers them pure voodoo. He would rather move their relationship off the massage table and into his bed, but as much as he wants her touch, it forces him to face the demons that still haunt him. Can the heat of their unlikely connection heal them both?

**I received this book in exchange for an honest review.** This was my first book that I have read by Marilyn Baxter. The characters were easy to relate to and fall in love with.
There's Jillian Logan who is a young woman looking to make her mark through the touch of massage. She is scheduled to work on a soldier that has pain not only on the outside but she finds that he's suffering on the inside as well. Her magical touch helps Sam Harman heal both mentally and physically. I love when I read a book that will let me laugh out loud and fall for each of the characters.

Jillian Logan loved the years she spent in Arizona, honing her skills in massage therapy and alternative healing. She has a real gift and hopes to open a business of her own where she can make a difference in people's lives. Family responsibilities following her mother's death have brought her home to Florida where there are fences to mend with her younger sister and decisions to be made regarding the family business before Jillian is able to pursue her own dreams. She's recently accepted a job in the spa at the Casa Blanca resort where, as Baxter puts it, "The good fortune gods had cracked open the skies and poured sunshine and rainbows all around Jillian Logan." The good fortune has a name: Sam Hartman. He's her new client, an injured soldier she's sure she can help if only she can get him to stop hitting on her long enough to focus what she can do for him...out of bed!

Sam Hartman is at a crossroads. Seriously injured in Afghanistan, he's out of the military with no idea of what is ahead. The wealthy mother of the soldier whose life he saved has gifted him ten days at Barefoot Bay's exclusive spa. He's envisioning good booze and hot women. What he gets is a gorgeous, no-nonsense massage therapist who is forcing him to face the fact that his wounds are more than skin deep. Sam's not ready to admit that he's suffering from PTSD or that Jillian may be able to help him heal. Yes, her massages are beginning to reduce his pain but he'd rather coax her into his bed and lose himself in sex than open himself to her "voodoo" methods of therapy. It's a classic battle of wills with both of their futures on the line.

When You Touch Me is a well-constructed story of healing and hope set within the Kindle World of Roxanne St. Claire's Barefoot Bay. Baxter's characters are multi-layered and fully developed, with real-life issues to which I had no difficulty relating. And it's clear the author has done her research regarding PTSD and the issues facing soldiers returning from duty in the Middle East. Fans of St. Claire's Barefoot Bay series will enjoy cameos by some of her characters, especially Jamaican dynamo and Casa Blanca housekeeper Poppy, though readers new to the setting will lose nothing by not having read St. Claire's books first. When You Touch Me flows well, eliciting both laughter and tears, and left me with "full book" satisfaction even though it is a novella of only 117 pages. The secondary characters add to the richness of the story without detracting focus from the main characters and I'd love to see more of them. I'm especially intrigued by Jillian's sister and also by Sam's brother. I'm hoping Marilyn Baxter has plans to write more stories set within the Barefoot Bay Kindle World. I can't be the only one who wants to read them!

Recently, Roxanne St. Claire's Barefoot Bay series expanded with new voices and characters and being a fan of this series and a Floridian by adoption I jumped right in and how wonderful experience it has being. There are 11 new novels, which eventually I'll read them all, but feeling a little blue, Barefoot Bay: When You Touch Me by Marilyn Baxter spoke to me and jump to the first place right away.

When You Touch Me is the story of Jillian, a massage therapist, and Sam, a recent separated ARMY soldier who is battling with physical and emotional scarring. Jillian is working for the Casa Blanca Resort and has been assigned to this patient who must receive the best of treatment, no matter what. She is still in her probation period, afraid of making any error and reeling from coming back home, dealing with her mother's passing and the responsibilities of being the older sister to Becca, a young woman with Cerebral Palsy. Sam is still in a dark place and it is not easy task make him believe that there is neither shame nor guilt for the things that led to the state he was stuck at. Their easy but hot chemistry, the occasional cameos and new secondary characters as the Bay itself made for a light and rewarding read. Jillian's mastery of the art of massage made me yearn for one for myself! Marilyn Baxter you have won a new fan and sincerely I can't wait to go back to Barefoot Bay.

P.S. There is no chronological order to the new novels based in Barefoot Bay, just jump in and enjoy!

Jillian Logan comes home to Mimosa Key to take care of her remaining family: her younger sister. She has managed to find a job as a massage therapist at the Casa Blanca Resort in Barefoot Bay. She gets a special assignment to treat a wounded soldier. The soldier in question is a very good looking man with a lot of sex appeal and is traumatised by his time in Afghanistan. They have a mutual attraction towards each other. Jillian has to remind herself that employees of the Resort are not supposed to fraternize with their clients, but is is very difficult for her to balance her attraction to him and still be very professional. Sam, the wounded soldier is at first looking for someone female to have in his bed and he is flirting his a** off. On top of that is Jillian trying to introduce new methods of therapy, he is very sceptical and throws it all on one heap as rubbish and voodoo. After a few days however is his first drive to get a female into his bed, replaced by how to get Jillian into his bed, while she is worried about how she can give him the necessary massages while she is so attracted to him. Can Sam get over his history and accept his traumas and can Jillian overcome her inhibitions of seeing her client personally. This was the very first book I read from Marilyn Baxter. I liked this book very much. I can relate to both Jillian and Sam and that made the story livelier for me. Sometimes I noticed a bit of hesitancy in the storyline but it was not too obstructive to the story itself. So I enjoyed the story and I want to read something else by Marilyn Baxter.

Jillian Logan has come back to Barefoot Bay after her mother death. She is a massage therapist who is now working at Casa Blanca Resort.

Than we meet Sam Hartman who is at Casa Blanca Resort for more rehab on the injuries that he received in Afghanistan.

Little back story Jillian Logan she has come back home to work at the spa as a massage therapist while she figures out what to do about her mother's business and to help take care of her sister. In the meantime, she is assigned to an Army vet named Sam Hartman, who needs massage therapies to help with his injuries. Sam Hartman is at Barefoot Bay after a patrol in Afghanistan went bad and he and his best friend are both badly injured. His friends mother is paying for the session with Jillian.

You need to get the book to find out just how Jillian massage treatment can help Sam. Because Sam is dealing with a lot of pain and guilt and along with that he has PTSD. Sam refuse to believe that he has PTSD being an ex- military man he will never admit that he has it. Can Jillian help Sam when he just doesn't believe or think too much of her methods and he gives her a hard time at every turn.
This was an enjoyable read. This is also part of Part of Roxanne St Claire's Kindle worlds Marilyn Baxter's is contribution to Barefoot Bay stories.

Jillian Logan had to move back to Mimosa Key when her "Aunt" Daffy decided to retire. Aunt Daffy was her late mom's best friend and was helping take care of Jillian's special needs sister, Becca and was running her mom's store, but since Aunt Daffy decided to retire, Jillian needed to step up and help. Jillian gets a temporary job to help out a wounded soldier with war injuries for the next 10 days at Casa Blanca Resort's Eucalyptus Spa. She has been given carte blanche with this client by the wealthy lady that is paying for Sam Hartman's treatment. Sam Hartman is a tall, dark, handsome man with biceps and a killer smile, but he is also carrying around a lot of guilt and after Jillian first meets him, believes he is also experiencing PTSD. I just loved their first meeting! Too funny! Sam is reluctant to try anything that Jillian wants to do to him, but eventually gives in. I really enjoyed watching Sam come around. He brought a lot of emotions and comedy to the story line. I really liked the chemistry between these two characters. They both needed each other in ways they neither of them even realized.

The secondary story with Jillian and sister, Becca was great. I loved the surprised ending! Jillian and Sam's happy ending was perfect! Overall I really enjoyed this story. Great characters, great chemistry and great story!

Part of Roxanne St Claire's Kindle worlds comes Marilyn Baxter's contribution to Barefoot Bay, When you Touch Me. Set in Barefoot Bay Jillian Logan has come home to work at the spa as a massage therapist and figure out what to do about her mother's business and to help take care of her sister. Assigned a Army vet who needs massage therapies to help with his injuries she's got her hands full when he proves to be a handful. Sam Hartman is at Barefoot Bay after a patrol in Afghanistan went bad and he and his best friend are badly injured. That friends mother is paying for the sessions at the resort spa but Sam doesn't think it will help and would rather wallow. Then he meets Jillian and he wants her. She is not going to make it easy for him. This is a really free flowing fast story. Sam is a little hard to love until you figure out why he's acting the way he is. Jillian is dealing with guilt and struggling to figure out what to do with her life. Both however are in for some interesting surprises. The only real issue i had with this book is i wish it was longer. I would have loved to see the story between Sam and Jillian lengthened. I loved the fact that the author added a epilogue at the end. it's always fun to see how things go after the story ends.

When You Touch Me by Marilyn Baxter

A Barefoot Bay romance from the Kindle world created by Roxanne St Claire. It was fun reading about recurring characters like Poppy, Charity, and Luke from prior books from a totally different author. It makes this small Florida island seem real enough to take a drive over the causeway and have a visit.
You do not need to know the works to read and enjoy this contemporary romance novella.

Sam Hartman is in denial. He's been discharged from the army for medical reasons and is sure he is not suffering from PTSD. He just wants to get laid. Chase a little skirt. Have sex.
Jillian Logan is a massage therapist that has been hired for extensive sessions with Sam. Because she works at the spa, rules prohibit them from getting involved. Sam doesn't care about the rules. Who's to know but the two of them?

Shame. If there is a sexual relationship that is prohibited because of work rules, would you feel shame? Should you? Jillian has a lot to work through from her mother's death, the store, her sister, her own feelings of guilt. And now potential feelings for Sam. A client. Her plate is full in this novella.

PTSD is real. Once again I'm reminded to be thankful to our troops and to wish them all the best both in service and beyond.

A story that will teach you, love will conquer everything and will heal the broken soul.

Massage therapist Jillian Logan has returned to her home on Mimosa Key after being gone after high school, now living with her disable sister, she will have to learn to juggle a lot in order to keep her job, their family business, and her disable sister happy.

when Sam Hartman is giving an opportunity to relax and have some therapy to his injuries he suffered while fighting in Afghanistan, the last thing he wanted was to enjoy it, but when Jillian is his therapist things will change.

Sam and Jillian will teach you to relay on others when they are offering a helping hand, they will also teach you that love, support and loyalty will defeat your demons lurking in the shadows.

I have read my fair of romance books, but a few leave a mark in my heart, and this one did. The story is well written and the plot is very easy to follow. Love it and can't wait for you to read this amazing story.

After her mother’s death, Jullian Logan has come back to Barefoot Bay to work at Casa Blanca Resort’s exclusive Eucalyptus. Her aunt is retiring and she needs to be close to home for her sister, Becca, who has cerebral palsy.

Sam Hartman had saved Adelaide Granger’s son’s life in Afghanistan and she had given Sam a 10-day stay at the resort and had requested Jullian be the one to work with Sam in help with his injuries. Sam did everything he could to be obnoxious regarding Jillian’s help including crossing the line with trying to get Jullian into his bed.

The magic of Barefoot Bay make things happen between these two who find that they love and need each other and can have a happy ever after.

Marilyn Baxter has done a great job with this story. It is very well written and fits perfectly in the Roxanne St Clair’s Barefoot Bay Series. She did so well with her research into PTSD, how wounded soldiers have so much to deal with once they return home with their injuries and the many ways they need help. Such a job well done with this story!

This story is part of the Barefoot Bay Kindle Worlds that let’s other authors add their stories to Roxanne St Claire’s Barefoot Bay. This is the first thing I have read from Marilyn Baxter, and I must say now I want to explore more of her books. When You Touch Me tells the story of Jillian Logan who as return home after years away from Mimosa Key. She has taken a job at Casa Blanca as a massage therapist, so she will be close to help her sister and the family business. Not long into the new job she is given a special assignment. Ten days with a former soldier who was injured in the war. Sam Hartman is spending a little over ten days at Casa Blanca since the mother of one of the soldier’s he served with feels she owes Sam her son’s life. She is footing the bill for the massage therapy that will hopefully give him back more range of motion in his arm. This is a really cute quick read, but one of the things I loved is that you got to catch glimpses of Roxanne’s characters as well.

4 1/2 STARS!

A short, sweet read of healing and hope!

Jillian Logan has just returned home to Mimosa Bay after living away for several years. She's getting settled in to her new job as a massage therapist at the Casa Blanca Resort and right away is given a special project.

Sam Hartman is not exactly happy to be on a beach front resort to remind him of the sandbox he just returned from with a few physical injuries to deal with and a whole lot of mental ones. He's not sure what to do with himself now that the Army isn't his future anymore and he's ready to take it out on anything in his path.

Will Jillian be able to help him work through some of his pain? And will his constant flirting eventually wear her down? Could there even be a future there considering the different places they are at in their lives?

Resentment, anger and pain. Sam and Jillian have more in common than they realize. Sam has been forced to start over after injury threw his career as a soldier off course. Jillian's life was disrupted by tragedy and family responsibilities. I received a copy of When You Touch Me in exchange for an honest review. Rehabilitation has brought Sam to Casa Blanca Resort where Jillian has been assigned as his message therapist. When You Touch Me by Marilyn Baxter centers around the development of understanding, learning to make peace with things that can't be changed and learning to forgive and move on. All of these points are vital in the process of healing, which is what Jillian and Sam both need. Hidden behind the charm was an emotion that was heartwarming and poignant.

I absolutely loved this book. Sam is a sexy, sexy man that has been medically discharged from the army. Jillian is a massage therapist that has been assigned to just take care of Sam for the next 10 days. I really like both of these characters. There is an attraction between them, but Jillian is trying to not let them "cross that line", but Sam really likes to push her buttons. It is a wonderful story, and Marilyn Baxter does such a great job developing the characters, that you feel like you really know them. She also did a great job pulling you into the story from the beginning, so I did not want to stop reading once I started. I was really glad it was my day off. I received this book from the author, and I wanted to write this honest review.

This was a great story! Sam Hartman can't believe he's been sent to another sandbox but he's here in Mimosa Key so he might as well try some of the therapies he's been offered for his injuries. Jillian Logan needs her new job at Casablanca as a massage therapist to be a success. Responsibilities brought her back to Mimosa Key so she needs this to work. Just her luck though, her first client is a wounded soldier who is too busy trying to seduce her to take her work seriously. Too bad she's getting sucked in by his charm!

You definitely want to grab this one and see if she can resist him. I definitely recommend it.

When You Touch Me by Marilyn Baxter is another entry in the Barefoot Bay Kindle World. It is a charming story that focuses on a spa masseuse and her client, an injured soldier, who end up crossing the line and fall in love.

This was a fun and entertaining story with likeable characters that you want to support and cheer on hoping for that happy ending. The characters were well written and complex. The story line was riveting and kept my attention to the very end. I really enjoyed reading this book and had trouble putting this book down. I highly recommend this book to other readers and I look forward to the next book in this series.

I'm not very self-sufficient, either. But at least I went away to college.

He's already made a bad first impression and they haven't even met yet.

Ew. Remind me never to become a masseuse.

Aromatherapy is witchcraft, but reading tea leaves makes perfect sense? Her mother was strange.

Yeah he doesn't have PTSD. Not!

So hot.

He has zero modesty.

An invition to meditate does not mean "let's have sex".

Poppy is a genius.

This is the first of the Barefoot Bay Kindle World books that I’ve read and I have to say I was thrilled with the book. It kept the Barefoot Bay feel while telling its own story. I was skeptical of introducing new authors to a series that I love but when Roxanne St Claire chose Marilyn Baxter to continue the saga she knew what she was doing!

Ms. Baxter takes two people with varying degrees of survivors’ guilt and pairs them in a fantastic story. You will laugh; cry and your heart will ache while Sam & Jillian work through their problems to find one another.

When You Touch Me
Marilyn Baxter

A sweet romance that brings together a massage therapist and a soldier with PTSD. Each one has other issues that they need to work on before there is any chance of a HEA.
My first book by Marilyn Baxter, but will not be my last. Sam and Jillian bring you into their lives and have you pulling for them to connect with each other.

Jillian left Mimosa Key a long time ago, has now come back after her mother died, her sister needs help with their mother's store and she has gotten a job at the Casa Blanca Resort as a massage therapist. She is getting a special client. An ex-soldier with multiple injuries and PTSD. The injuries he will admit to, but not the PTSD. Jillian knows how to help Sam, but he doesn't think too much of her methods and gives her a hard time every chance he gets.

Another Great Barefoot Bay Adventure

I love Roxanne St. Claire's world located in the idyllic place called Barefoot Bay! Ms. Baxter took that world and conjured up another wonderful love story weaving in familiar and well adored characters! I had such fun reading this while I traveled through SE Asia. Nothing like a good romance to keep you company by a beach and a cold umbrella drink!

Jillian is a massage therapist that has moved home to Mimosa Bay in Florida from Sedona to take care of her sister and her mother's store. She feels guilty for leaving her family as long as she did. She meets Sam who was discharged from the military after being injured. He has survivor guilt too. They help each other with their guilt while exploring their relationship. Sweet military type romance.

"Barefoot Bay: When You Touch Me (Kindle Worlds Novella)" by Marilyn Baxter is my first read from this author and I really loved this book. The book is part of a series that takes place in Mimosa Key, but it is a read alone book. Jillian Logan comes home to Mimosa Key as a massage therapist and she meets wounded soldier Sam Hartman. He needs therapy to get his muscles moving again, and she needs the money from this job.

* I received a copy of When You Touch Me for an honest review.*

I was truly fascinated by this story.
The anger.
The resentment.
Coming to terms with the reality that maybe some things were just meant to happen.
To me, it's a beautiful representation of how good things can come out of bad situations.
Also, the way Marilyn incorporated the meditation into the story was breathtaking touching.
